O.K. I've finally finished. And here it is:

http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/game-haven/CTB.zip

Constance the Barbarian - A humourous take on Conan the Barbarian/Xena Warrior Princess, with a dash of Monkey Island.

Please go easy on it. It's my first game, and has been mostly a learning project. And I spent so much time on improving my backgrounds, that I didn't get as much time to spend on other areas. Anyway, enjoy (if you can). And constructive criticism please, if you feel like commenting.

P.S. I won't be voting myself, as I didn't have time to play any of the other submissions.

Quite interesting. It's almost exactly what I do when I'm planning a game. I do mine on paper though. I guess its a good thing my mum gets staff discount in Easons! (stationery/newsagents/book shop)

Critics' Lounge / Re: Thumb issue...

I think the curve on the left side of the hand/thumb is a little large. I would have it start to curve out after the forefinger, rather than before. Or maybe I've just got small hands. ;D

Spoiler
Take the symbol off the men's room door, and stick it on the ladie's toilet door. This let's you go into the ladie's toilet. Inside, look in the sink for a key. This key opens the locked hatch in the ceiling down the corrider. The hatch takes you onto the roof of the plane; head downscreen, and take the windscreen wiper from the window. Finally go to the room with the eye, and use the windscreen wiper on the button to break the heater.

Happy Birthday AGS!

Perhaps it could be more like a more organised version of critics forums? Like everyone who plays a newly released game fills in some sort of rating/comments form. Then the guild brings together all this information, and decides whether to give it a stamp of approval based on it. Something like that perhaps?

I've got Permanent Daylight on my comp. PM me with your email address and I'll send it to you. It's only 690Kb, so it shouldn't be too bad, even on dial-up.

I think it might be amusing if his wings flutter a little while he walks. Just so they don't look like they're just stuck on?

Happy Birthday!

(me sing? not a chance!)

O.K. I got hold of a trial version of Paint Shop Pro, and after messing round with the features for a while, here's what I've got:

It doesn't look quite as good as yours Darth Mandarb, but we can't all be perfect  ;)
Still, I'm happy enough to put it in my game, once I've filled the windows in of course. Haven't quite finished all the interiors yet.

Here's my latest background:

I'm leaving the windows blank until I've done all the interiors, so you don't need to comment on that.

My problems:

- It's a scrolling background, and I've just a single vanishing point, do you think it looks ok like that?

- I'm not sure how to add texture to the dirt path/road, the grass, and the sky.
This is my vague idea for adding texture to the path and grass, but I've no idea what I should do with the sky.

Suggestions welcome. Thanks.

General Discussion / Re: SIM's Fans Out There?

I have the Sims 2 now! Goodbye real life! (j/k)

I got it for £34-99, but I had a £10 voucher, yay me!

I have 2 blue cups! I had three, but some git broke one. And I do remember where I got them. Poundstretcher - we're such cheapos in N.I.

O.K. here's my 3rd (and hopefully final!) version:

- I've changed the colour on the back wall(missed that on the last edit!)
- Changed some of the colours again, so the furniture doesn't blend with the floor
- Drawn some lines to simulate the grain of the wood
- Added a little vase of flowers

I'm fairly happy with it at this point, but I'm still open to suggestions. At any rate, I've some outdoors backgrounds to do that I'll probably need help with (textures mostly), so you'll probably see more pathetic artwork from me!

Edit: Good point. I knew something about the shadow of the flowers was bothering me. I decided just to remove it altogether. The vase is probably too close to the wall for the light from the window to cast a shadow. Yes that's it. ;D

As for the floor; better now?
#237
Not likely! It's never really that neat. You wouldn't believe the amount of trowelling and brushing (yes brushing!) we have to do in the actual trench before they take photos.

As for the spoil heap, its fine, though for the size of trench it'd probably be a bit bigger. It's not meant to be pretty; it's just somewhere to put the soil until you put it back in. Time Team are just a bunch of ponces.  ;D

I was gonna just edit the original post, but I thought you might want to see the difference. Anyway, I've looked at your suggestions and examples, and here's how it looks at the moment:

Here's what I did:
- lowered the ceiling, and showed more of the floor instead
- changed some of the colours
- removed black lines, worked out shading to show edges instead
- put in shadows
- changed the curtains
- added a poster (it makes sense in context of the game, so its a little spoiler for you!)
- saved as a png file (did that make any difference?)

Damien, how would you suggest adding some texture? I was thinking of perhaps drawing a few lines in a different shade of brown, to look like the grain of the wood. Is that the sort of thing you're suggesting?

Note: While I have used the suggestions given here, I have only worked out how they were done from the examples, and I haven't copied directly from them. Don't quite know why I'm writing these little disclaimers, I don't see myself actually winning the MAGS! Ah well, you never know.

No problem! Looking good. I have to say it looks a lot tidier than our dig was! But then we had cows trampling over it every time we turned our backs.Ã,  ::)

I didn't have any black outlines on the original. I had used darker versions of the colour to try and show some of the edges. Like on the bookcase, just to show where the front edges were. I didn't want to make it look like a solid block of colour. Especially after working out all those darn perspective lines.Ã,  ;D

Edit: I forgot to say, the MAGS theme is fantasy, so I was going for a rather rustic type house/room. So no electricity! Though, if it's fantasy, I should be able to do what I like with it... Stick up some pop posters or something! Lol. Still, this has given me some good ideas. Thanks.
