Sounds cool. I like the [Ad|Rad]. It looks funky.

As for music, I don't know if anyone would be interested in my music collection. Seeing as I pinch my dad's old LPs. My music tastes are several decades old. Lol.

Pelican is the childhood nickname my dad called me by. Now, its usually: 'Oi you, empty dishwasher!' . Lol.

Pelican - > Big mouth - > Never shuts up

Simple. My friends sometimes call me Jobabe (as in, 'alright Jo, babes?'), but I get far too many sexist comments in chatrooms and such, so I prefer to use Pelican.

ME WANT!

Heh! I think a few more days won't kill me. But QuantumRich, I want a blow by blow commentary of your gameplay! Tell us of the wonders of this game, which you have sneakily snagged before the release. ;)

I've been a bit hesitant about posting anything here, as my artwork leaves something to be desired, but as one of the aims of MAGS is to improve the areas in which you have trouble, so here goes:

It's just a simple little background; I think the perspective is fine, but I don't quite know where to go from here. I think I need some tips on shading or something, so it doesn't look quite so bland. I don't want it to look particularly realistic, as its for a humourous game, but any advice would be welcome. Thanks.

P.S. I've checked that its ok to get critique for a MAGS entry, so I'm not cheating! Oh, and this has just been done with MS Paint, so if you suggest any specific tools, please tell me what program they're from!

Just a thought for a detail -- I think that archeological dig sites like these often have a grid system in place, sectionning off smaller parts of the excavation (for easier catalogging of bits that are found, I'm guessing) with wire or string or something of the sort.

I'm studying Archaeology at uni, so I may just offer my two cents. ;)

I was working on a dig over the summer, and while the trenches were marked out with stakes and string to begin with, they're taken away after the topsoil is dug out (otherwise you keep tripping over the darn thing!). So probably best not to bother. We do use grids for drawing detailed plans, but these are just 1x1m frames.

Additionally, the spoil heap (the dirt you've just dug out) is usually fairly close to the trench so it's easy to fill in later, so you might want to add that.

If it's not meant to be terribly accurate, then never mind me, and my showing off! ;D

Resident Evil is a bit of a bad example, being as the voice acting is so dire! Long pauses in the middle of the conversation, and the aforementioned flamboyent gestures.

Anyway, yeah, sounds like a nice idea. If you were doing close-ups for conversations it would be nice to be able to do that sort of thing. Raising eyebrows and such. ;)

Most hated: Any puzzles in Schizm. ;)

Though particularly the one involving memorising the sounds, and working out the symbols they were associated with for a code of some sort. I mean, its an interesting idea, using sound as a puzzle, but the darn thing just drove me barmy.

Favourite: Insult sword fighting (MI1&3) :)

Not sure about an absolute favourite, but ICO is definitely up there.

Try repeating the directions, more than once. Like I got WINENE, and went W, N, E, N, E, W, N, E, N, E, and that seemed to work. I can't recall if I looked at the note while in the maze though. So it could also be something to do with that.

Look through the window to get the view of the dog next to the door. Then use the iron bar on the metal ring on the dog's collar. It's a bit of a pixel hunt. I think you can figure out what to do with a thin piece of metal?

I'm rather sad, I have all the expansion packs. I play them intermittently. Occassionally I play it seriously, and make loadsa money and get a nice house, but more often than not I just fool around with it. I like to put in all my real life friends, and make them all love/hate each other. Or just leave them to it and see what happens.

I'm quite looking forward to Sims 2, but goodness knows if my computer can handle it. Ah well, we're getting a new computer fairly soon anyway. Hopefully it'll be able to manage it.

Edit: Just downloaded the doo-hickey that checks your computer's specs for you, and it seems my humble computer should be able to play the Sims 2. Woo!

Slightly off-topic, but I just got an email from MSN, informing me that all free accounts will be getting storage space of 250MBs. It's just not good enough. Lol.

I worked on an archaeological excavation for part of the summer. It woulda been a lot cooler if we'd actually found anything interesting. Lol.

Still, I got a nice tan. And it means I have one less class to take this year. Dossy student or what?

My friend was gonna send me an invite, but her's have mysteriously disappeared too. Wonder what that's about?

Edit: Thanks very much!

General Discussion / Re: Are YOU in a band?
Sat 04/09/2004 23:47:22
I was in a band, sort of. Me and a bunch of mates were gonna make a band, but they got bored with it after a couple of weeks. It's a bummer, 'cos where I live they're quite hot on encouraging young artists/musicians etc., so we woulda had a lot of support.

Can't really do much by myself, I just do vocals. I used to write lyrics too, but not for a while. We did actually record a song, but I can't find the darn C.D. Ah well.

I think I'll have a bash at this one. I haven't made a game yet, so this would be a good opportunity to test my skills. Though I must admit my artwork leaves something to be desired...

Minor question though - as this is my first game, can I put it up for C&C, and get some feedback before submitting it? This seems like it would come under 'getting help', but I just want to check this doesn't violate any rules.

My dreams are usually pretty weird, but cool, and vaguely logical. Quite often I use them as ideas for stories.I usually don't feel emotions in them either, so scary dreams rarely scare me - I can be objective.

My worst nightmare; just in case you're squeamish:

Spoiler
Anyway, my most horrible nightmare was that I'd got some horrible disease/virus that was killing me, and then my eyes sort of oozed out of their sockets, but I could still see. The worst part was I could feel everything. My own eyeballs oozing down my cheeks. The rather extreme panic I was feeling. I woke up whimpering.

Naturally I didn't wear my contact lenses for a week. And stopped watching gory movies, and reading horror novels for several months.

I'd like to include a quote from Terry Pratchett's 'Thief of Time' which I find amusingly relevant:

Quote'Yes' said Miss Susan. 'Sometimes I really think people ought to have to pass a proper exam before they're allowed to be parents. Not just the practical, I mean.'

;D

Yes, that's my point. You get these break-the-mold games, where the violence is illustrating a point, rather than just for the sake of it. Then you get a bunch of copycat games, that just focus on the 'oooh, new and interesting ways to kill people', and so we end up with a large amount of games featuring pointless violence. It's not surprising that computer games get picked as the scapegoat for violent behaviour, because as you said, they've already blamed music and films! I think it boils down to some people just don't want to take responsibility for their actions.
