Interesting. I wonder if games like that can be equated to "boy band rock" i.e. rock bands that seem edgy, but are manufactured in the same way as the Backstreet Boys or N'Sync (Linkin Park and Limp Biscuit spring to mind).

It's an interesting comparison. It's kinda like you get a game come out that breaks the mold, and everyone jumps on the bandwagon. Now the bandwagon just seems to be that violent games get the punters. It's just a continuous line of clone games, as it were. But rather than 'cloning' the parts of the game which made it good, they're just focusing on the violence aspect. Does this make any sense? ;)

DGMacphee,

Your theory is quite interesting, and I can see how it applies to some games. However there are still going to be lots of games that are just out to make money. It's like: "Ooh look, games where you kill people make money, lets make some of those."

I despair at the unoriginality of the games market these days.

As for the whole blaming computer games for kids violence - there's an age certificate for a reason, parents need to enforce this. One of my little cousins was visiting (only about 5 years old or something), and wanted to play GTA3. He said his mum let him play it (and she probably does), but I told him, not in this house. I shudder to think what he's gonna turn out like...

Yeah, great report. I really wish I could go on the next one. Mum's can be such a nuisance sometimes. Ah well, I'm a student, it's not like I'm rolling in money anyway. Probably couldn't afford it.

I hadn't thought of a next topic anyway!Ã,  Besides, he's in a tank, you can't see if he's wearing tap shoes. :)

Ah sod it! Oh well here's mine anyway:

Still next: Hell on Wheels (Must actually have a depiction of hell, bonus Points if you use Dante's 9 Circles)

Sorry! Couldn't resist it! Does this still count? I did actually draw it myself, though I had a picture to look at.

We do actually have a rather annoying neighbour who's similiar in personality to good old Ned. So nice it's postively irritating. And yes, that is my idea of the worst neighbour. Gimme weirdos any day. At least they make for good gossip!Ã,  ;)

Retail? Where are you from? We're till-monkeys plain and simple. ;)

Anyway, I used to work in a clothing store, and I was usually the poor sod stuck on the till all the time, so, I usually got shit from the customers (despite the desk at the back with Customer Services written in big letters, duh!). Anyway, one day, this woman come up to complain that one of the pricing signs said £5 or something, and she was charged £8 or something for the item. I explained that we were changing the signs due to the sale, but if she took the item and receipt to customer services, they would refund the difference. At any rate, she continued to rant at me, and I continued to suggest that she go to customer services, as thats what it was there for. I was the only person on the till and I had customers to serve. After a few more minutes ranting, I discovered she had already got her money refunded, and was apparently just ranting for the sake of it (or because we hadn't rushed to change the sign immediately). What a waste of my time.

Flip sake! Did somebody bump this just to scare the crap out of me? Still, gave me a good laugh. It almost had me, but I thought it was too suspicious that CJ didn't post after the first one (until he revealed the joke obviously). Leave the title - it'll teach us riff-raffy n00bs to be grateful for the wonderousness that is AGS. Lol. :D

I'm relatively new to AGS, so I wouldn't be much use for technical stuff, at least at the moment. However I am a bit of an amateur writer, and this would be a good opportunity to develop my skills.

Uni starts at the end of september, but I did one of my modules over the summer, so I should have plenty of free time. Sign me up!

Me. Oh, and the top says: 'Twin Airbags, Fitted as standard'
Gives you some idea of my sense of humour!

I've played Halo, on easy mode though! Strangely though, I rather liked it, and I don't really like FPS. A couple of levels were a bit repetive, but I suspect they'd be a bit more interesting on a higher difficulty level. I liked the story (sparse though it was), and I really liked the setting. And let's face it, the Master Chief is cool!Ã,  8)

I have seen the extra few seconds of the ending. When my brother completed it on legendary.Ã,  ;D

I'm looking forward to the sequel too. I guess sometimes I do just like to blow stuff up.Ã,  ;)

Well here's my rather brief and not terribly scary story:

A couple of years ago, I was checking out a lot of chatrooms - not looking for partner, just some people to talk to. Anyway, I talked to a few people, mostly guys (in retrospect, 'JoBabe' probably wasn' t the best nickname to choose!). I got on quite well with one guy, and started chatting to him on msn. Just friends, but later on, some mild flirting. Then suddenly he's declaring his undying love. I tried to be tactful, but before I know it, he's threatening to kill himself if he can't be with me. His friend also sent some rather threatening messages on his behalf.

I guess its a good thing I'm a naturally cautious person. I don't want to think what might have happened if I'd given him my street address. A simple case of miscontruing the situation, and he turns out to be 'unstable' (to put it politely).

On a lighter note though, one of my friends met a guy on a message board they both contributed to, and they're a couple now. So, it does work out for some. Personally I prefer to meet people in real life.

See below

Spoiler
It's actually a little extra scene. You see it by talking repeatedly to the soldier at the camp until he mentions Ironcrow. Obviously you need to have and be wearing the uniform to do so.

Maybe I'll make an appearance at the next one then...

Though, I think my mum might object to me going off with a bunch of lads! <Sigh> I really need to get my own place. She really drives me round the bend sometimes.

Happy Birthday!

(It's still the 21st here too...Ã,  ;) )

Well, technically I'm a noob, so I might as well say hello.

I'm Joanna, 21 years old, and I'm from Northern Ireland. I have far too many interests to list them, but suffice to say, one of them is computer games. Adventure games specifically. I've spent the last few weeks downloading games, before I decided to make an appearance on the forums.

I don't have any experience with AGS, but I used to study computers, and I do have prior programming experience. Still, I doubt I can be much help technically. However one of my main hobbies is writing, so I can help a bit with plots/storyline if you like.

I haven't done much with AGS yet, though I do have a game in development. Nothing tangible, just at the planning stage. I may actually make something one of these days...

Anyway, feel free to message me (it's not like I've got anything better to do!).

Ahhhh!!!!!

How can I ever hope to fuel my adventure game addiction, when even Lucasarts lets us down?

All I can say is: bugger.

Reading all your interesting posts and looking at the photos, and wishing I'd joined the forums a few months earlier...

However I am noticing that you all seem to be blokes. Are chicks not allowed to like adventure games? Should I just go now? Lol.

The Rumpus Room / Re: How did you find AGS?
Mon 16/08/2004 22:31:41
I was skimming through Underdogs, despairing at the lack of point and click adventure games these days, and decided on a whim to simply type 'Point and click adventure games' into a search engine. AGS was the first link. Simple as that.

I always had the vague idea of making my own game, but as yet, I've simply been downloading and playing the games on offer. I'm rather an adventure game addict, so I was almost overwhelmed by the number of games, and all free! How did I manage before? Lol.

It was either Larry Vales, or Rob Blanc.
The first I knew was done with AGS, was Pleurghburg.

As yet I haven't made any games, but I do have one in development (i.e. thinking up a plot). It could take some time, seeing as I still have to learn how to use AGS. See you next decade...
