Hey, Dragon King.

What tools are you using to create your backgrounds or do you have any yet? If you're drawing with a mouse in MSPaint or with a graphics tablet in Photoshop, the approaches are usually pretty different.

Also, what kind of graphics are you after? Would you prefer a hand-painted look over pixel-by-pixel art? Can you name any game that has 'your' style?

Sounds like a great idea to have him think he's something else than he is. There are probably tons of ways to have fun with this.

I think the only thing that really actually bothers me are the bright outlines on the leftmost version. I think darker lines might fit in better. However, if it's part of the RON style it's of course fine. I just never got used it.  :-\

That's what I thought too. But it seems that for some reason the colors are different in the JPG and GIF versions. Are you using less than 256-color GIFs? As MrColossal pointed out, the format itself shouldn't be the issue for this image.

Hmm... I can't really come up with any criticism that wouldn't mess with the style so in that fashion I don't really have anything to criticize. :)

I think the one thing that kind of disturbs me is the foreground object that's blocking the door a bit. It kind of leaves me wanting to see a bit more of the actual scene. Perhaps you could move it a bit downwards so the door is in a more prominent location. It's just a minor issue though.

Overall look: great! I would gladly play an adventure with graphics of that standard.

Looks great. I love the values, I think they're fantastic.

The reason I'm posting is that I think you might have problems with the bits and pieces part because of perspective. If you make a city scene for example, you would have to have exact perspective for it to work, I think.

Just a though.

I'm not sure if I got it right. So... you write your part, PM it to the next one for them to write their part and so on?

Assuming that's the way it goes, I think you could also try it this way.

First, make a thread for the story thingie. Post the order of the contributors to the first post and keep updating it as new people become interested in the activity. They would PM you and you would add them to the list by editing the post.

Then you would start the story and the first one in the list would continue the story by replying to the thread. No other posts would be allowed in that thread so the story would be readable. Everyone would see when their turn is and where the story is going currently. If someone doesn't add their contribution in a couple of days, you could just take their name off the list or move it couple of steps forwards.

What do you think?

For the color theme, how about something like this?

It's a bit more subtle than Mr. Eric's one but it's along the same lines - simplified. Just trying to retain some of the original colors. Anyway, bright orange and dark green don't go well together when there's equally much of both, in my opinion. It creates kind of a restless atmosphere for me at least. As green is only for the background I changed it to white. I think it might suit a bit better.

Also, you could use subtle shapes here and there. Like I changed the menu bar a bit with simple shapes. Probably not that hard to just code. Or I don't know. I'm not an HTML guru either. :)

I hope you won't mind my changes. Just trying to help. The new site (your version :)) is way better than the last, black one, in my opinion!

Hell, yeah. Too bad you missed it. Oh, well...

Actually, the reason that there hasn't been much talk about it is the fact that it wasn't made with AGS and it was more of a test game (or was it only a demo?) than a full adventure, I think.

Maybe you would find the answer from Yabb's help forums?

Sorry I can't be of more help. I have no idea how these forums work. :)

I think school is keeping 2ma2 really busy. He's dropped by at our development forum every now and then. Last news adventuregamewise is that he got a drawing tablet and he's got a good hang of using it. However, obviously he hasn't been able to get any time (in addition to 10 minute breaks ;)) for drawing much so there's not much more I can say. Knowing his skills I don't have any doubts.

I think Bad Timing and anything from Igor :) are the things I'm really looking forward to at the moment.

General Discussion / Re:treatment of ""noobs"

I think Babloyi has a point.

I have also thought that some people are being too negative or inconsiderate towards new people. It's understandable but still... it doesn't really help anyone, in my opinion.

I usually only post something that is in positive or helpful tone. It's not cool to wait for replies when you know they'll probably be negative towards you. I hope it doesn't have anything to do with the fact I'm posting less and less all the time. ;)

Generally speaking, I don't think it really matters in the end what anything is called. As long as we know what we're talking about.

Looks really nice! Something I'd expect from you. :)

As you don't want her to look very sexy, I suggest making the breasts a bit smaller. No, wait. What am I saying? Make them bigger.

I think you could make her look more regular by changing her legs a bit. They're very muscular and kind of manly at the moment. Perhaps something like this?

Finally, one thing that kind of looks weird is how her hands are of different size. I don't think perspective could cause that great a difference. They don't stand out though, so you might as well keep them the way they are. Just something I noticed after watching the image a while.

The overall look though is great. The style is very consistent and professional. Keep it up! Still can't wait to see the game. :)

Totally. You americans do this and that. I are stupid.

Seriously, I think Goldmund has a point. However, I don't think it should be offensive or anything. I think it's pretty logical for anyone to assume that at a board where people speak the viewer's mothertonque, the other members are from the same country. Disregard the fact that AGS isn't made by an American. I'm just saying that it is normal for anyone to make that assumption.

If I am to join a forum where everyone speaks english, I realize they aren't from Finland. But it's easier for me to notice that. After all, I am one of those 'international' users.

PS. You Bulgarians are all inconsiderate.

That just rocks! I absolutely love the peaceful atmosphere - the music fits in perfectly. I couldn't tell it was done in only five days. The animation for example is so smooth.

Have a successful new year, Igor!!! You definitely made my day.

There are couple of reasons why I don't hang out at #AGS much these days.

The main reason is that I can't relate to the people that hang out there as well as I used to. I kind of miss the conversations with Helm, Andail, CJ and the like. I think intellectual (debates or just general helpfulness) discussion is forbidden, forgotten or just of no interest now. To me it seems like most of the discussion is just for killing time. And it just leaves me with the feeling I could have used the time in a better way. But that's just me.

In addition, the atmosphere isn't quite as positive and sincere as it used to be, in my opinion. I'm not really a fan of swearing and stuff like that. It makes the atmosphere hostile for no reason. Just because people have got used to using the futile words.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that I think I know where Terranrich comes from. People are different and all don't get along. We better just spend less time interacting and more time creating games because that's what we all have the same. You can't go wrong with that.

If you really want to put together a team you might need to get people interested by posting a bit of the story of the game, for example, if it's what you would be doing for the game. But it will be hard to get people to join your project if you don't know how to script or do any graphics. I think generally the graphics are what really get people interested and unfortunately there aren't so many of graphic artists around. And if your team is also lacking a programmer, it lowers the chance to get an artist.

The bigger the team, the harder it is for it to work when they aren't working in an office or anything. I have been in a couple of projects and all of them have had this problem. Everyone is inspired at first, then one gets uninspired and soon another. Then there will be a short break when no one works and if they come back after that, you have a good team. But when people don't get paid it's hard to keep everyone interested.

Anyway, my suggestion is to at least try learning AGS because it really isn't hard. It is good to make a small game and see how it all works. After you get it finished you'll know the process and after the initial enthusiasm you'll know whether you still are up for it. Because projects take time and at first it's hard to realize what it takes to get through.

Either way, good luck! It's really not as hard as I make it sound. :)

Heh, no. :)

That would only promote less work for me, which isn't even possible. But anyway, be on the lookout for some progress, Jannar.
#118
Woo! Merry Christmas Jannar and everyone else! Take it easy.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with giving presents when you really want to. But the fact is, at Christmas most people buy presents just because they have to. Many wouldn't buy gifts if they didn't know they're going to get something back. And that's not a gift. As RobertEric said, it's trading.
#120
I actually didn't get anyone presents this Christmas. I share the same view with AlexisVale. I don't think buying presents is right when you're basically forced to do it. Therefore I'll save my money (the little I've got) and instead be more generous in everyday life to those that matter to me and try to enjoy the day with my family. Even though I might prefer if my friends were around. :) Anyway, I can help people out with real issues rather than just give them some objects. Especially when the object would be something that I might not think they really need, just something to prevent them from being disappointed. It just doesn't seem right to me. It's a funny thing how my family doesn't get my viewpoint but my friends do.

Anyway, as sidenotes, I enjoyed your essay on the subject AlexisVale. And additionally, CJ is once again right. It's like Christmas every day when Chris Jones is around. Honestly. Rock on.
