Hello.

Sorry about the bad title for topic, I couldn't come up with anything better. Also, if you think this should be somewhere else, feel free to move it o_O

Anyways. My friend and I have a small music project going on and since we don't have enough instruments  or skills to play them, we use computer software to produce our tracks. At the moment I'm composing a track that includes acoustic guitar and I found ok-sounding sample. However, the melody has chords in it and in those points it sounds like my speakers are about to explode, you know what I mean... right?

So my question is, is there a good way to avoid the breaking of the sound? Also, I would have use for better sounding guitar samples/soundfonts so if somebody wants to give them away, lemme know :P

Surprise!

Freddy Almost has a band. A funk band. But their situation is bad. They're out of money and it may be the end for the band... unless they get more money!

Okay, so I can't access internet from home for a while, so I decided I'll make a short game because rules for this month's MAGS rocks. So made I short one, but I'm pretty satisfied with graphics and music especially (it rocks because I didn't make it :P )

WARNING! Game contains a scene of two people having sex etc. So don't play it if you are offenced too easily or something... but if not... download it now!

Thanks you.

DOWNLOADING NOW!

EDIT: Possible bug-reports here please :P

Okay, so I have this room in which I have a table and a chair behind it. I put walkbehind area on them. Then I had to put a character so that it's sitting on the chair and it's hands are on the table. So I had to edit the character graphic so that I could do that and set IgnoreWalkbehinds on for that character. Now, if player character moves behind this character, result is this:

And this is how that piece of room is without the character (the walkbehind is on that chair)

Bug maybe? Or is there a better way to place that character sitting behind the table? :P

EDIT: Oh yeah, I'm using the latest beta of AGS.

Hey all.

Some of you might remember this tune I posted here some time ago. I found it on my harddrive and thought I'd add some cooler thingies, like more instruments, another melody etc. etc. So, here it is. A new and improved version. Could fit for a scifish spacey piratey game :P

And 'tis not used in a game *hint hint*.

Ahoy there!

Okay, about 6 months ago my animator (known as Mikko) dissappered and he hasn't come back. He was making walking animations for my game (and he was making really good job, 16 frames!!! but I had to redraw my main character after that), but today I started making them by myself because I want to finish my game. So this is what I got:

I know there's some glitches (like the wobble in the hand) but I would like some help.

Also, it may be that my game won't be finished this year if I have to do all the walking animations by myself (I like more making other animations) so if somebody wants to help me, let me know ;)

So... comments, pointers etc.

Critics' Lounge / Petteri's unfinished tunes
Sat 24/01/2004 19:57:12
Hello.

I have some unfinished tunes laying on my harddrive so I thought I put them here for you to listen. Maybe I could get some comments and critisism too. Midis first:

Dreaming:
I just... I just made this. Nothing more. Sounds kinda cool, but kinda empty too.

Search:
This is awesome. So awesome that I couldn't think a good melody after the main melody has played for a while. The melody in the end was just something I whipped up, nothing really good. I really would like to finish this one though.

Then some mp3's:

Some sort of arcade tune I guess:
I made this after playing Urban Joe. Would probably fit in some arcade shooter game thingy...?

Future:
This was supposed to be in a game I planned to do once. Inspired of Byzantine Demo if I'm not mistaken.

So... have a listen and tell me what you think.

Okay, I was going to do something different but it didn't turn out as I wanted so I had to think about something else. So how about this:

Imagine a situation in which you have promised to make a soundtrack for a game. Now what if the game creator wants a tune for a cutscene, something along this lines:
- It's night and the maincharacter (you) walks in a forest.
- Suddenly you discover a cemetary!
- Something seems to be wrong here...
- And then! A bunch of ghost/zombies/monsters etc. etc. starts walking towards you!
- You start running away as fast as you can.

So this means that you should try to make a cutscene music to fit in situation above. Rest is up to you: you can make it cartoony or serious or whatever you do prefer. Remember, even though there seems to be many different scenes, you don't need to change the music that much unless it really is necessary (if you know what I mean...).

Format can be almost anything: mp3, ogg, midi, any tracker format, sid... If you use mp3 or ogg, you may want to reduce the sound quality, because this is not about the quality. So let's say that file size may get over 1mb, but definately not over 2mb.

If you have something to ask, ask. If you think the rules are too hard, you just have to live with it. When making music for game, it's possible to come across something like this. This is not about winning. It's about having fun and getting better. Atleast try something!

Have fun! :)

Hello hello!

As it's almost christmas, it's time to release my short christmas game I finished earlier today. Here, have a screenie:

Game is about a young boy who tries to find a hidden christmas present in his house. This is a remake of a game I released last christmas and this is LOT better :P Okay, if you find any bugs etc. post it here and I may fix it. I didn't have much time to betatest this, so it's possible that there's some bugs. Also, don't care about typos :P

Err... if I have something to add, I'll edit this post.

Click this to download

So... merry christmas everybody, and enjoy the game :P

Oh, and special thanks to Annie (OneThinkingGal) for making the neat interface graphics ^_^/

Critics' Lounge / Handdrawn background
Sun 07/12/2003 19:11:12
Hello. I'm trying to learn a new style to color my handdrawn backgrounds and decided to try it today, so I made this test background.

I known there some things wrong and the water hasn't got much detail, so I could need some help with that. I would also like some comments about colors, composition etc. And yes, I've been playing CMI lately :P

Critics' Lounge / Private-eye midi
Sat 22/11/2003 12:15:46
Atleast it's supposed to be :P

Okay, I had this old tune of mine which was crappy, but I liked the melody so I made a midi version of it. I just made it for fun, so if anybody wants to use it, just ask.

Click this.

I would like some comments and opinions, because something doesn't sound right. I would have liked include some clarinet sounds to the background, but left the idea because I couldn't make them sound right. Feel free to modify the file if you want.

Hello.

I've been using this code to fade objects and characters in and out:

Quote
ObjectOn(0);
while (counter<100) {
SetObjectTransparency(0,100-counter);
Wait(1);
counter++;
}

But is there a way to make objects and characters to fade faster? Because I think I saw it in some game... or?

Critics' Lounge / Spooky midi ^_^
Sat 01/11/2003 17:49:33
Hey there.

I made this one for a game (not my game though) and I think it turned up pretty nice. Teh horror!

Guess the melody that starts somewhere around 1:45 :P

And of course... comments please!

EDIT: uh, yeah, don't worry about the sudden end, it's meant to be looped :P

Hello. I'm making interface in which double click is used, so I want to use double click in inventory aswell. This means, that if you double click an inventory item, mouse cursor changes to an item. Single left click will USE item and right click will EXAMINE item. So, my interface works fine, but inventory doesn't. When I click item only once, I got a message, but after clicking the message away and click item again once, mouse cursor changes to an item. I think I know what's wrong with it, but I can't fix it. So, here's the code:

Quote

// main global script file
int invdoubleclick = 0;

function repeatedly_execute() {
if(IsTimerExpired(2)==1)
   {
ProcessClick(mouse.x,mouse.y, MODE_USE);
invdoubleclick = 0;
}
}

function on_mouse_click(int button) {

if (button==RIGHTINV) {
 if (GetCursorMode() == 4) SetCursorMode(0);
 else if (GetCursorMode() == 6) SetCursorMode(0);
 else ExamineInventory();
 }

else if (button==LEFTINV) {

if (GetCursorMode() != 4) {
 if (invdoubleclick==0) {
 UseInventory();
 SetTimer(2,10);
 invdoubleclick=1; }

 else if (invdoubleclick==1) {
 SetActiveInventory(game.inv_activated);
 invdoubleclick = 0;
 SetTimer(2,0);
 }
}

}
}

I think the problem is in repeatedly execute-part, right? So, help please?

Hello.

As you can see, character art is not my strongest point ._. Anyway, this is Mervin, an old diver. Give me some comments and feel free to modify the picture too.

I wanted to try to make a tune that everyone remembers and knows when they hear it, just like Rodekill 2 theme or Larry Vales or Monkey Island... so inspired by one tune ( guess what :P ) I made this and I'm pretty pleased with it... but I would want to know what YOU would add to it... and I want lots of comments and thingys :P

Yay!

General Discussion / My scanner won't work!
Sat 30/08/2003 10:59:37
My scanner doesn't work. When I'm trying to scan something I get error message saying "Scanner not detected". Scanner is plugged in where it should be and I haven't changed any settings or anything. Scanner worked fine when I had my old monitor, but I had to buy new one because old monitor broke down. Now the scanner haven't been working with the new monitor. I've tried to re-install the drivers and update them, with no luck. My printer does work and it's connected through my scanner. Scanner is CanoScan FB 330P and I'm using Win98.

Any help?

Advanced Technical Forum / 256 color icons
Thu 24/07/2003 10:42:06
...

I remember this being asked, but would it be possible? I mean custom icons, I made one really nice looking, but because it's 256 colors I can't use it with AGS. It does have under 16 colors though, so are there any programs that allows you to use custom 16 colors palette? I also remember there where some way to make AGS games to use 256 color icons.

If that's not possible then I just have to make my icon look ugly :P

Critics' Lounge / Character!
Fri 18/07/2003 18:39:44
Hello.

I remade my main character for my game 'Goldlagoon'. I took photo's of myself and traced over them and I'm pretty pleased how did this turn out, especially I like shading. Although, I would need some help with the face, I think it looks pretty bad.

Thank you.

Critics' Lounge / Some pictures
Fri 04/07/2003 17:29:37
Hey there.

This is a background I made when I joined the forum for the first time. It was made in November 2001. I was played demo of Hero6 and tried something similar. Would be funny to see the feedback I got on the old forums :)

I tried coloring on a sketch my friend draw once. Notice that I'm not going to use it in a game, just tried to color it.
