I like this whole style. It's not very professional looking, but that's how Prohart got famous... well... sort of.

you certainly are getting better with each edit you do, skullkid. there's just one thing I wanna point out that I really really noticed.

With your nighttime edit, it looks like the stars actually follow the contour of the house.... see when it comes to the roof the stars seem to uUP! and then sort of 'level out' again? And there also seems to be a very distinct line where the stars 'stop'

That doesn't happen normally. Stars go right to the BOTTOM of the horizon, and are usually less crammed together than that... If I get the time I might to a quick pain-over to show what I mean...

EDIT:

okay..... so this is SUPER SUPER SUPER quick.

Basically I just made the windows a bit bigger, respaced the stars and changed the outline of the tree foliage. It's not a masterpiec, but it's not meant to be. The quality also isn't that great, so ignore the blurry bits.....

Yes, it is good you waited to post. Nothing worse than seeing an enthusiast dying after two weeks of script... it kills the soul.

Those graphics look great, though. Similar to M.I, but not so similar that it could be called a rip. More of a 'friendly reminder' really.

-Puzzles that make sense.  None of that "use the Artichokes on the Nunnery" nonsense.

Oh my freaking stars, it has finally happened. THANK YOU!! *hugs fransas to point of discomfort*

Good luck and godspeed.

it is now :P

And candle, relax. It's best to edit out pics when you quote, but I think everyone was over exaggerating to make a point. It's just hard to pick up sarcasm/exaggeration/black humour over the net...

The only way I can tell is if they have italics or loads of smileys....

EDIT: I love rtf's pic. Seriously: Who! Needs! Pants?
#644
okay....

so maybe there's something that could be done... :P :-[

I still like it, though. Nothing worth serious crit. in my opinion.

EDIT: I think steve's idea would work well in a bright/happy setting, but I get the feeling that OSC was trying to get across quiet and calm, and slightly drab. Am I right?

I'm not prepared to make a judgement until I see a version with townsfolk.  ;D

Honestly, it's that one single person that can make the difference between a good background and a great background. Once you've added the people in, I think it will look fine.
#646
Point taken.  ;D

My previous posts were probably a little one sided. I agree that a single opinion is not enough reason to change the clue.

So it was a good move; probably the best, actually.

Good luck with the rest of the game.

hmm..... okay..... I realise this is probably going to sound like a nag, but I do firmly believe the clue should be changed.

Currently, the clue is this:
Take a WEEK (A week is 7 days)
From a DAY (A day is, surprisingly, 1 day. This IS the literal interpretation, no argument).
Therefore: 1-7 = -6.

I agree that once the clue was explained it made complete, perfect, wonderful, delightful sense. However before it is explained, the clue (practically speaking) is doubtful. I'm glad people seemed to be able to figure it out, and I do want the puzzles to be tricky (hey - i I wouldn't d/l if they weren't), but it at least needs to make sense.

I know this sounds like a rant, and I'm sorry for it, but that great sense of satisfaction you get when you solve a puzzle all by yourself, just gets drained right away when you highlight the spoiler; even more so when the clue (to my mind, at least) is very very ambiguous.

http://www.accessorl.net/~cyberwar/codehacks.html#common

By scrolling down from there about two inches you can get an example of what a hacking code MIGHT look like.

Basically just type a lot of crap, and people shall praise you.

EDIT:

Give it a second or two to load completely. And don't have your speakers up too loud, because it has some blooming annoying background music at the start....

Critics' Lounge / Re:New Sprite for C&C
Mon 12/04/2004 02:13:43
If, as you say, this is your first proper sprite, then I'll say
"Jolly Good Show"

Just a couple of minor things:

(Overall I prefer the sprite on the left, so he's the one I'll comment on)

It seems odd to me how his belt falls below the trousers?! With all the little 'belt straps' on trousers/pants/jeans today, it seems impossible for it to slip quite that low.

His feet are also a little odd. The right foot (from my perspective, left if you're looking from HIS point of view) has a thicker black outline around it, making the shoe look like it uses a darker shade of grey, even though I think they're the same colour.

Finally, his arms look a little chunky. Maybe cut them down by a pixel or two, and make sure they're even. At the moment, it looks like the arm on the left is longer / heavier than the other.

Apart from that, it's a five-minute masterpiece

Another grammar issue, that probably isn't important, but I'm an 'english' nut, and the small things bug me.  :P

The D card in the inventory is referred to as an D card, however it should be either a D card or the D card

As for the final number of the safe combination, the clue needs some reworking. You're using TWO different modes in one clue: days and hours. It's quite confusing for the player to know what you're talking about, because the way the clue's written, the answer SHOULD be -6 (1-7). You need to make it clear that you're talking about hours, or else come up with another clue...

The one that came to my mind was this:

*sort of a spoiler, but not really, so I won't hide it. But suffice to say, you HAVE been warned  :P *

"Cound the days of March, and add:
Just one third of June.
Swindle now three pairs of 8;
You'll have the answer soon."

31 + (30/3) = 41
41 - (8x3) = 17

There's something wrong with the 'alley' between Greatest Purchase and the Library... The little bit with
'police' written above it...

I'm not sure exactly what that is.... is it meant to be a dark alley, or something? It sort of looks like that
from the perspective, and yet the writing "stay out" makes it look flat, like it's facing the street.... I think
that's because you've got the text slanting upwards, whereas in real-life, the text would be horizontal,
with the letter "s" being the smallest, and consequent letters becoming larger and larger (maybe you
could have a slight slope up or down...)

The other thing I noticed, you might want to change the colour of the nuclear waste barrell thingo.
The way it is, it looks as though it is empty and transparent, so you see the grass behind it.
It either needs to be more realistic (give it a shot of black/brown/poop) or more cliched (give it
a more violent green, not fluro, though).

Apart from that, I think it's great. I especially love Mal-Wart.

be sure to get an avatar and a nice signature, which shouldn't include nipples or overweighted people...  ;D

The more you disregard this, the more I'll hug you.

Which will either be very very good, or very very bad...

(It's probably better if you DO steer clear of these things, actually... I wouldn't want a photo of the fat naked lady next door loading on my screen everytime I go to the forums...)

I've never heard of putting a baby on a washing machine, but I'd do it just for the fun of it.

it's a delicate balance, and if you screw it up, your cute little bubsy is destined to roam the streets late at night bearing various Weapons of Mass Destruction.

no, really - he will....

It would be smart if the military used undercover people instead of full battledress, just a guy with a bullet proof vest and an ak47 is less of a target then a us soldier

unfortunately the vest doesn't quite cut it when you have to deal with suicide bombers....  :P

....not that you'll have to face any.....of course....naturally... :-[ :-[

heh!

My mum reckons she used to make me shut up by ignoring me....

Once she had checked that there was nothing wrong with me, of course. I had just been fed, had nappy changed etc etc, so she'd go to bed, and when I cried she left me alone. It sounds mean, I know, but apparently it worked a treat for me...

And 18 years later I don't resent her....

I don't get much overseas crap.

it's mostly internal (cause they spell the aussie way), and I know it's not an immediate relief, but it IS a first step.

It won't ever wipe spam out, but at least they're doing SOMETHING about it....
