Hate to be all gloom and doom, but this is the crit's lounge, after all ;)

To me, the names sound like they're trying too hard. Like they were once regular titles that have been overdone with big words from a thesaurus. You don't have to do anything fancy to still demonstrate the macabre. (And I know I don't know the complete story, but from what I've seen in your betas and whatnot, there aren't too many titles that fit the plot comfortably). They all have the same flow of "The something of something".

For me, the best titles are the ones that don't try to describe something intangible. They just describe the story.
"5 Days a Stranger" happens to be one of my favourite titles of all time. And it's dead simple.
Just my two cents. Which maybe I should've put in an email? :p

I have to stress guys, these screenies aren't the best indication of how the sprites fit the backgrounds.

I'm a (I have no idea what my technical name is, so let's just say that I'm involved in the game), and I've seen some of the beta-versions of things.

The animation is outstanding and the sprites do work well. Actually seeing them interact with the bg's is a lot different to just seeing them glued in a screenie.

Now, I have to admit I've only played with a limited number of examples, so I can't defend every single background. But from what I've seen, this is definitely promising - and it works well! Assuming things follow on the same path, I think you're in for a very pleasant surprise ;)

Kinoko's got it spot on.

Most gay people are perfectly accepting of Bi's (not sure why I used a capital...) and understand that if you can like men, or like women, you can probably like men and women. But there are some who think that it's just a denial thing and that anyone who calls themselves bi hasn't accepted that they're fully fledged gay. And - as unfair as that is - it's not wholly unjustified. There are a lot of people who call themselves bi just because they want to think they have the 'normal' urges too.

Also true is that there's a huge number of people who think they can call themselves bi ("oooh, what a funky lifestyle-label!") just because they kissed a member of the same sex during a game of 'spin the bottle'. The fact that same-sex relationships hold no appeal and there is no desire to pursue a same-sex partner seems to become irrelevant. Spin The Bottle is like the modern day bible.

As far as I'm concerned, Cam, there's no doubt you...erm...enjoyed your girlfriend. And just as surely, I know that you at least got some of the gay genes. So I'd say bi is probably a fair description.

I'm still jealous of you getting twice the love, though. It doesn't seem fair. Hmm, maybe that's why some people are upset with bi's? Jealousy?

Oh, and Dark of Night:

Hmmm.
Kinda saw it coming...but then again I told myself I was imagining it. I should've known when you showed me those [totally clean, fully clothed] photos. No man with hair that perfect (or that green, now you mention it) could be totally straight.

Well congratulations, I say. Now you've got twice the chance in love that I've got!

The injustice!

[EDIT] And how quaint you should come to realise it while with your ex. I had to admit I didn't dig chicks the day my ex-girl asked me out. Why I said yes will always be a mystery - I'm just lucky she's so perfect and non-homophobic. Otherwise I think I would've lost every male-defining organ that day...

Please don't hate me for finding this funny...

I'm not too fussed about the new pope to say the least, but he's not going to come crashing on my door anytime soon. Fortunately he doesn't have the power to introduce new laws and whatnot. And regardless of what I think, he is the new Pope.

The big question for me is why don't they use their real name? I only found out a couple of months ago that Pope John Paul wasn't John Paul at all, and that totally floored me. And now this Joseph (Josef/Yoseph/However those darned deutchies spell it) is called Benedict. Why?

Well at least it didn't go completely un-noticed.
I mean, after all, it's not like I had to spend 15 minutes thinking it up :(

It sounds pretty good to me, although 6 seconds doesn't really allow for a lot of crit. There's no melody/harmony, obviously, so you probably want to make it longer so you have time to put more into it.

For what it is, though (it's almost a sound effect), it's fine.

I think this looks fab. Everything's functional and pretty clear. The only thing that needs any explanation is the "tac" icon, but then again, you'd need to explain it no matter what image you used...

I'm still a bit lost as to the white clock face; I didn't quite follow your explanation. But at the moment, having two clocks looks a bit strange.

Everything else looks fine to me.

I have officially decided to like you.

Your avatar is cool
Dandaragan is cool (even though I was only there once about five years ago)
Your surname is cool(e) [ode to my cleverness]

As for pictures, well, you can see 3 of them here.

I'm in queensland, by the way. And 18. I think you can guess my name... :D

3 photos of freshness!

This was at about 2 in the afternoon. I'd been out all night, and crashed at my friend Candise's place. She took this as soon as I woke up and got out of bed. How nice. Sorry if the blurriness kills your eyes.

I'm happy. Yay.

I get kinda self-absorbed when preparing for a big night out. So naturally if you spring a photo on me I'm gonna look like this... Don't hate me...

Lip gloss, a funky belt and anything pink.

No surprises there...

The wheels don't do it for me. I think the rest of the car looks great - but those tyres scrape my brain.

QuoteCan you tell me, whe looks "John Fish" so annoyed?

Mmm, I'm still wondering about that, too. No doubt everyone's comments are spot on - this is a brilliant little sprite, but I get the feeling that he wants to be happy, but is looking angry instead. I want to give him a big hug and say "It's okay... it's okay..."

I was a little disappointed by the game in the end. I was always waiting for the plot to start, and it never really did. I guess I helped Linda do some stuff, but it never felt like I was helping her advance in some sort of quest or adventure. Some points of the story just seemed so improbable/cliched and I kept hoping they'd be explained away, but to no avail.

There was some absolutely painful dialogue in there (both in terms of length and quality of what was said), and there was so much of it that wasn't important!
Spoiler
Ask the pub owner about himself! He'll spend the next 10 minutes with his life story, and it won't help you one bit!

Character building is important, but only if they actually contribute to the plot sufficiently. A guy selling beer doesn't meet that mark for me.

And Linda! By god, she's the most easily manipulated woman on earth!
Spoiler
"No, I can't become Queen!"
"Pleeease?"
"Okay! You've talked me into it!"

I'd sure trust somebody like THAT with the 5 magical amulets that could destroy the world as we know it!

It wasn't a bad game. In fact, there were some places in there where I had a good old fashioned chuckle (despite it being 'serious'). I guess I'd just been carried away with the hype...

You don't like the outline? Personally, I think it looks really good.

I'm not sure what emotion you're trying to give him, though. In #1, he just looks a bit sleepy, but by your final take, I get the feeling he wants me dead! I'd maybe make the eyes not quite so yellow, as that makes him look a bit drunk, too, or on lsd.

On the whole, though, an extremely atmospheric fish. That felt weird to say...

The idea of txt smilies is growing on me; I think that'd be kinda cool. Even the 'sideways' ones, like :-() or :-p would be amusing. Go for it, I say!
