???  Could you clarify this?  Because I really hope you didn't literally mean that.

I think what he meant was that because all previous presidents were white, people started associating that with bad presidency. The fact that Obama is black makes people feel he can relate to them.

My cat is called Ninja Balls. None of the 9 cats we've had in about 30 years have ever chewed cables though.

It's about you respecting the woman -- It's about the woman respecting you. If there's one thing I've learnt, it's that a woman always needs to respect her man in order for a relationship to succeed.
Be the alpha male, if you believe you are 'the man' and full of confidence, women pick up on this somehow. (the feminine radar ;)).

Those policemen have the coolest looking helmets. Looks like something from a Stanley Kubrick film.

Awesome topic I will definitely try to enter sometime!

Yeah, if you're not a moderator you're only allowed to mock the guy. Make fun of him for being a neb -- Create a YTMND about him and redirect him to penis enlargement sites, the usual you know.

It's how we do things at adventuregamestudio.co.uk ;)

Hi, sorry for the delay, kind of lost track of time.

Well, the winner for this week's tune competition is... dkh. I liked the emotion you portray through the brass section and it was a really nice tune. Good work.

Runner up in second place is Thomas Regin. I can hear you put a lot of effort into your entry and it sounds really professional.

In third place is Funkmast.  I really liked your entry, especially the second half. It had a lot of atmosphere and built to a nice climax.

It was a really hard decision :/ Sorry for the lack of trophies, I'm not so good when it comes to spriting.

Only one week left to go!

Nice entries so far, hoping to hear some more. Your entry is fine, dkh, I just want to hear music, so anything is fine as long it's within the topic. The explanations I gave are just guidelines in case people get stuck. :)

Find a zip file in my computer or windows explorer. Right-click on it and select "Open with." Then click "Choose Program" and a list with different programs will pop up. Browse through it until you find "Compressed (zipped) Folders." Select it. Now look at the bottom of the window and select the checkbox, "Always use the selected program to open this type of file." Click OK and the problem should be solved!

And internet.

That's awesome =)

It's amazing how you can browse youtube for ages :/ Clicking on your click sent me all over youtube and eventually I ended up watching Kent Hovind debate videos. (which are hilarious btw).

Nice! Can't wait to hear some entries :D

Nope it can be just a backing track or an instrumental. Don't worry about the singing, I wouldn't expect everyone to do that!

I don't think this thread is for attacking anyone Nikolas, just for discussion as what Nacho originally intended. Let's leave Dervish's thread and anything that happened there out of this thread, Boyd.

This thread is just to discuss taking the bible literally, and why some people would do so. Maybe there are some literal christians out there who can explain or present a good argument as to why they take the bible literally?
Personally I'm quite a strong atheist.

(Let's keep the thread on topic ;) )

Whoops! I assumed it was applicable to unrelated words that had a similar phonetic sound!
Ah well, guess it's just a pun then. Thanks for pointing that out though, guess we all learn something every day!

Haha that's assonance I think.

The series, in short, is called "Die American", a sort of sick portmanteau of "Buy American!"

I'll read some of them when I get home from my exam, but I just wanted to point out you should recheck the meaning of the word 'portmanteau' ;)

(sorry to sound like a dick haha)

You recorded it quite nicely, but I think you should think about removing a lot of the reverb on the guitar and the voice. It's a bit distracting listening to it like that.
Also your voice goes off tune quite a bit, (don't know if it's meant to be like that), but I know that can be the most frustrating thing to fix. I have like the worst voice in the world which sometimes seriously impacts my songwriting :/

This contest I couldn't make up my mind so I'm going to give a a choice between three topics, so choose the one that appeals to you the most!

First topic:

Pop rock - a blemish and commercialisation of rock, or just a few catchy tunes about angsty teenagers? You decide!

In this version of the tune contest you will be required to write a pop rock tune. Think of cheesy bands like Blink182, Sum41, Avril Lavigne etc.

Some examples of tunes I've written for fun:

Things to keep in mind:

  • Switching bass notes - Pop rock tunes often use a form of pedalpoint to create their riffs, so playing the same riff with different bass notes often works.
  • Breakdown - Often after the second chorus there will be a breakdown in which only the bass guitar plays. The quiet part of the song.
  • Catchy chorus - Pop rock always has catchy choruses in order to sell the song.

Second Topic

Detective music! In this topic you will be required to write a detective theme song. Think either upbeat brass blasting an action packed tune, or sleazy backalley music with smoky saxophones blaring over some thick pads.

Examples:

Things to keep in mind:

  • It's all about atmosphere, so go for presenting a piece that makes the listener believe he is hearing a dark brooding tale of a man who's been tortured by the scum(m) of the city.
  • Alternately, present a more upbeat piece, which shows the protagonist fighting crime. You can make it a bit more comical if you wish. (like the theme song from Sam and Max).
  • Think swing! - Swing beats with jazz atmosphere!

Third topic:

Mexican folk music! Think of the sountrack to Grim Fandango, and other mariachi bands. The aim is to write a piece utilizing trumpets, trombones - Big band stuff!

Examples:

Things to keep in mind:

  • Trumpets, trombones, tubas - Whatever you wish. Think nice folk melodies on brass or woodwind with simple stringed or brass backing instruments.
  • Flamenco guitar - You could use flamenco guitars to back up your melody with quick fills.

Competition rules:

  • Entries must be at least 45 seconds long.
  • Entries can be in .mp3 .ogg or .midi
  • Entries must be in by the end of Tuesday 2nd December GMT.
  • Participants must indicate which topic they have chosen.
  • I will select a winner after that time. Entries will be judged on atmosphere, structure and choice of instruments.

Looking forward to some nice entries. Remember, have fun!
