This month's Sprite Jam theme is; A Gift from a Secret Admirer.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

The package seems unassuming at first but upon closer inspection; it appears more mysterious than at first glance.

You peel off the cordage and wrapping to reveal...

A Gift from a Secret Admirer!

Let loose! ;)

AGS Games in Production / Strangeland
Tue 27/03/2018 23:44:30
Well it's been half a decade or something - seems like about time for us to produce another point and click!

Strangeland

A man awakes in an otherworldly carnival and watches a gold-haired woman hurl herself down a bottomless well for his sake. He seeks empty answers from mocking ravens, an eyeless scribe, a living furnace, a mismade mermaid, and many more who dwell within the park. All the while, something awful screeches from the top of a towering roller-coaster, and he knows that until he destroys this Dark Thing, the woman will keep jumping, falling, and dying, over and over again ....

Heya all!

Well, it's been a while since I posted here really. Pretty much since the team and I finished making Primordia I guess...
My how time flies! Anyway, making a new game and thought I'd post some stuff here to gauge interest, or something.
Meh, guess I thought it'd just be nice to show off some stuff informally too. I don't like working in a vacuum. Anyway, not going to say much about this until it gets
an official game thread post but yeah.

Alternate future, during the Great War. Horror-esque. Robotics are involved. Resolution; 640 x 400.

Comments, critique and questions welcome.

Thanks ya'll!

EDIT - 15/08/16) Just chugging away at art, design and build progress.

Here's an early test game screen & a whole crapload of character/NPC design. There's more but it'll just choke up this thread... Plus I'm lazy.

Create a short piece of music (or even ambient sound) no more than a minute long. The piece must be able to be looped as seamlessly as possible, and of course the challenge will be to compose something that won't grate on the nerves or become boring after one has listened to it for five minutes. Less is probably more when it comes to melodies for this type of tune -- but please feel free to compose whatever makes it fun for you -- naturally.

Rules:

*Piece must be no more than 1 minute long. Shorter is fine
*Entries must play for at least five minutes, with your piece looped however many times needed to bring it to that length
*Any instrument(s) or styles of music are welcome. This of course includes experimental and/or soundscape compositions
*Feel free to post multiple tracks here, but you must chose only one for your entry

Questions are welcome. You have two weeks.

Heya,

I'm making a small game for my girlfriend for Christmas, and I really need someone to play the female protagonist. The game is going to be a playable prologue of sorts, for an ongoing story broken up into several chapters. However, there is a catch; the game probably won't be released to the public until all the chapters are complete, if at all.

It won't be many lines though (maybe a few pages at most), and the job is paid. Whoever is involved with the project will of course receive the final build of the game to play themselves.

(EDIT) Position filled, thanks to all who applied!

I don't want to release too many details, but here are the basics;

* Set in post apocalyptic Canada

* Features a robotic female protagonist

* Icy graphics and cool retro soundtrack

* Features a unicorn, a cat and possibly a bunny

Due to technical issues I can't post any of the soundtrack here yet, but here are some graphics;

Okay so I'm loving a lot of the new editor features, bar one.

Now when I move buttons about the UI, these yellow lines appear and it like, automatically shifts my placement depending on where I put other buttons.

If anyone knows a way to turn this 'auto shift' function off altogether I'd really appreciate it, the feature is basically driving me nuts everytime I mess with UI's. Which is a lot.

Thanks:D

Shocking!
Gory!
Scary!

This fortnights Tune Contest topic will be;

Any genre/tempo/instruments will be accepted. The more ominous/startling/disturbing the better. Foreboding soundscapes, relentlessly pounding gory beats, B-Grade Horror movie soundtrack style - all these and more are acceptable. As long as it's scary! Or Unnerving. Or just generally creepy. You get the idea.

Comp ends on the 17th April,

Good luck!

Just wanted to share mockup with you all, it's an idea my brother and I had for a Lovecraft inspired game, styled after EOB and Lands of Lore. It'll probably never get past the mockup phase, so I thought why not shed some daylight on it before it gets tucked away for good.
Classes would have been stuff like medicine man, firefighter (starts with a fire axe) etc. +1 beaded vestments and moccasins. Long rifles and pepperbox pistols. A detailed character generation system and leaning more towards sand-box roleplaying style than EOB would have been the order of the day.

Sprite Jam: A Novel Concept

This Sprite Jam;

1) Call to mind a fictional character from any novel/novella/short story you have read, and make a sprite based on how you imagine the character would look.

2) Find a short passage from the story (possibly, although not necessarily, one that describes your chosen character sprite in some way), and post this with your sprite.

If your chosen book/story has been made into a movie, (for instance, you chose Winston Smith from George Orwell's 1984, or Paul Atreides from Frank Herbert's Dune) you can definitely use the movie's visual interpretation of the character as a guide if you like. Same applies with any cover art for the book.

Deadline is the 7th January 2011.

*BONUS - Include an item from the story too. Could be the rat cage from 1984, perhaps a crysknife from Dune.

*Industrial designs or creature designs will also be allowed (ie, vehicle, machine or monster from the story is okay too).

*Your sprite does not have to match any written description exactly. Artisic licence here will be very broad, so there's no need to re-read your particluar story to get the sprite %100 accurate. Many cover artists for novels deviate quite a lot from the author's descriptions, and so can you for this competition.

BACKGROUND BLITZ!

Topic: The Oubliette. However, it does not have to be an underground medieval dungeon.
I will accept any confined, forgotten, little room. For instance, it could be grimy and shallow Orcish dirt pantry. Perhaps an ancient wheat silo filled with cobwebs and owl pellets.
The only visual requirement is that the sole entrance to your room must be an opening in the ceiling.
Small-medium size rooms are recommended for a true Oubliette vibe.

Rules: AGS compatible is a must. A solitary opening/entrance in the ceiling is mandatory.

Voting: Voting will commence on December 22nd.

You didn't really think I'd start an X-Mas theme Blitz did you? :D

AGS Games in Production / Primordia
Fri 24/09/2010 19:45:02
This has been in production for some time now, I thought it was about time to formally announce it.
After my first attempt at making a proper adventure game (Homunculi) failed miserably due to a lack of planning (And my utter suckage at writing), I decided to get a team together and start again from scratch. The result is;

PRIMORDIA
A Point and Click Adventure

Ages have passed since legendary Man walked the planet.  Now, in the desolate wastelands beyond the city of Metropol, an android named Horatio jealousy guards his freedom, independence and of course his only companion, a small floater robot.  The duo's only means of survival are lost when a marauding foe steals his power source, forcing Horatio to leave the safety of his home and set out on a perilous journey into the wastes- and into his own mysterious past.

                          Horatio:  You know, I always wanted to be able to fly.  It just felt . . . right.  That’s why I built you with a mag-lev unit.

                          Crispin:  Not so that you could store tools on hard-to-reach ledges?

                          Horatio:  Well, that too.

Features include;

  • Immersive storyline
  • Beautifully scored
  • Lushly illustrated graphics
  • Fully voiced, engaging characters
  • Fluid animations
  • Intricate game world filled with curiosities

For more info or some concept art; check out our website

I found the following code in the manual to fade objects out,

Example:

int trans = object[0].Transparency;
while (trans < 100) {
 trans++;
 object[0].Transparency = trans;
 Wait(1);
}

But I can't seem to get it to do the opposite effect, ie, fade an object in.
Played around with it for a few hours but I'm kinda stumped. Anyone know how to do this?

I'm trying to implent multiple inventories for the main character, by having multiple characters with different inventories to switch between, but when I use;

invMain.CharacterToUse = cTinman;

To change the active inventory to cTinman,  I get an error message - Undefined token 'invmain'
Could someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Heartland of Darkness: The Homunculi

In short, Heartland of Darkness is a psychedelic horror adventure with a few psuedo survival horror elements.
The story revolves around a young man who finds himself within the bowels of a hellish nighmare.
Not sure who to trust and dogged by horrific apparitions at every step, he must escape at all costs.
Largely inspired by the delapidated corridors and decaying ballrooms of a huge train station built before the turn of the century,
it's going to be a medium length game of around the 40-50 screens mark. Full soundtrack.

I don't want to give away much of the plot yet, I want to get my box art done and nut out a few more details first.

- graphics 45%
- puzzles 35%
- scripting 20%
- music/sound 50%
- story 40%

Here's a trimmed version of the opening cut scene.

A small in game trailer.

"The curtain has been lifted. Time now to play your part in this tragedy! Smear the greasepaint over your face and whimper.
The Chamber of Horrors is simply a wooden box my friend. It's all just a mirror, not a miracle. Just think of this as therapy...

'The words rang inside my skull and then subsided. I lifted my eyelids and saw nothing but faces swirling,
jutting forth from every surface, stabbing at me like needles thrust into a straw doll.'"

I'm hoping to have it done by new years eve. Will post updates.

Update 14 Nov: Incorporated a BASS style control system, code thanks to Helme. I like the simplistic approach.

Update 20 nov: New screenshots added, old ones updated. The more research I do, the larger this game gets. The dark arts are going to play a central and crucial role, and not that wussy Harry Potter stuff. It's quite unnerving to make this game so hopefully it will be at least a little freaky to play. Expect some black humor to perk up the mood, which at the moment feels like somewhere between Hellraiser and a David Lynch film. NYE release is seeming a little too optimistic now.

Update 6 Dec: Finished the spell creation system and quickslot system to use them, more story and gameplay work done. Placeholder box art done.

Update 10 Dec: Teaser trailer and opening cutscene coming along very nicely. Pure eyecandy, yes. But this will be one of the few areas where I can really just focus on my forte, graphics.

Update 18 June: Production Halted.

Well, it's been a long time since my last update- the reason being; I haven't worked on it for months. I think I overreached my second game project idea a little. I had in mind a sprawling horror title filled with cults and monsters. A complex spell system, which is the only thing I finished completely really. Although I have like 20 spells meticulously programmed with varying ingredients etc, but what in the hell do I use them for in game? I have no idea! I have no story! There never was one! I just winged it and hinted at HP lovecraft in my intro! ARGH!!!

Ah... I feel a little better now. Anyway, I've decided to shelf this project for now. I may pick it up again at some point, but for now I really want to finish my second game, so I can move onto my third and fourth, and hopefully make something decent by then.
I'm not going to announce my next project until it's at least 75% finished.  However, I have started work on it. I'm going to focus on quality- not quantity, this time.

To anyone who was looking forward to this game, sorry to let you down.

The game has been axed (for now)... Or cleavered. Whatever.

Beginners' Technical Questions / Solved
Wed 21/10/2009 06:16:45
Sorry to post such a nub question, but I got only 4 days to get my game done for MAGS and Im wasting valuable time trawling through the tutorials and forum;

I cant seem to find a command that just lets me display text as soon as a room loads, is there a simple way to have a narrative text appear during my intro scene?

The theme for this Background Blitz is:

The Tower.

It can be inside the top floor of a towering skyscraper. Amid the steps of a tower of Doom. Atop a towering oak tree. As long as theres a generous amount of tall thing involved.

Be creative!

Limitations;

The background must be AGS compatible.

Categories for voting consist of;

ATMOSPHERE

FUNCTIONALITY

Voting starts Monday, October 5th!

Critics' Lounge / My first background
Wed 02/09/2009 17:19:06
Hi,

I just discovered AGS and of course I'm like whoa, now I can finally make an adventure game, woo!

I did this background this afternoon, just to make a small test project in AGS.
I put some music together for it too. My bro said it sounded like music from some game called "Deus Ex"
which I've never played.
I say, if it's 3d and has no tedious puzzles, it's gay.

Anyway, I hope to be hanging around here a lot in the future, probably be offering my services as an artist in return for some programming help before long, math and code isn't really my bag!
