Top notch artwork, any chance of some larger screenshots too?

Hehe, did you know that Scott Bakula wanted Cpt. Archer to be a decendant of his character in Quantum Leap, as part of Star Trek canon?

Hi,

I'm making a small-medium length game in AGS (freeware of course), thought I might poke around and see if I could find some people interested in working with me on this one. It's not a big game, my deadline is a couple of months off, so I want to make it very polished.
It's kind of a sci-fi setting, lots of robots and a little black humor.

Here's an early test SS.

I'm looking for a writer, musician and a programmer.

Whether you want to input a little or a lot is fine, although what I'm really hoping for is to hook up with someone likeminded whom I can work with on future projects too. So yeah, if you have skills in writing, music or programming and are interested, send some samples to this address;

gobletleechen@gmail.com

I will of course reciprocate for any help given, I can do almost any graphics you might need.

EDIT) Thanks to those who have applied, I'll be getting back to all of you eventually. I'll be keeping applications open for some time though, so if you think you'd like to help don't hesitate to email me.

EDIT) Also need a programmer to help with the more complex things like dialogue trees and global variable functions. And anything else that baffles me along the way:)

EDIT) Thanks to all who applied! I have found several talented people to work with on this project now.

Yeah, even now looking at all I did, some good stuff, but no meat there. I didn't really plan this as much as my first game, and just bit off way too much, two majorly noob mistakes I think. Plus I'm starting to realize whatever you plan to make, it will end up being at least 30% bigger by the end. Shoot for 10 screens game you end up with like 15. Try for a big game and you end up trying to make a huge game. Damn my brazen foolishness!

Well, it's been a long time since my last update- the reason being; I haven't worked on it for months. I think I overreached my second game project idea a little. I had in mind a sprawling horror title filled with cults and monsters. A complex spell system, which is the only thing I finished completely really. Although I have like 20 spells meticulously programmed with varying ingredients etc, but what in the hell do I use them for in game? I have no idea! I have no story! There never was one! I just winged it and hinted at HP lovecraft in my intro! ARGH!!!

Ah... I feel a little better now. Anyway, I've decided to shelf this project for now. I may pick it up again at some point, but for now I really want to finish my second game, so I can move onto my third and fourth, and hopefully make something decent by then.
I'm not going to announce my next project until it's at least 75% finished.  However, I have started work on it. I'm going to focus on quality- not quantity, this time.

To anyone who was looking forward to this game, sorry to let you down.

The game has been axed (for now)... Or cleavered. Whatever.

It's been a while since my last update, so I thought I better let anyone interested know production is still in full swing.

Here's a small in game preview.

Oh yeah, sorry the quality blows, I had to butcher the framerate to get it uploaded... I hate Aus internet!

I have to go and skip out for a month, and miss the best MAGS ever... Damn. The irony is I spent a large portion of the last month painting horror stories... Damn it all...

I like spending NYE alone, it's very relaxing:D
Spent the night making a robot from cardboard and wooden skewers! Ok, that sounds lamer than it was.
Happy new years all.

Kinda bummed I didn't get in on this one now, great theme, plus I've been hoping to pit my skills against Loominous for some time...
All peachy keen entries, Oddysseus' entry reminds me of some Sci-Fi novella covers from the 70's, which I've always had a thing for, totally dope. "With a finger in my I" by David Gerrold definitely springs to mind upon viewing it.
On the other hand, Loominous' ingenious use of carrots as a design element is awesome, how he managed to make carrot men, carrot sun and a field of carrots all blend seamlessly together into a believable and attractive scene is really very impressive to me.

Idea: Oddysseus (It's really got that "I just ate a fistfull of Peyote" feel to it, awesome)
Atmosphere: Oddysseus (Wierd and vaguely disturbing, swell)
Design: Loominous (Clever use of the theme)
Composition: Loominous (Flawless composition from Loominous as per usual)
Functionality: Loominous (Seems to be the a more playable entry)
Technique: Oddysseus (While I'm fond of Loominous' technique,  the detail in Oddysseus' green chick's fish-net stocking won me over for this category)

Looks cool man, the scene by the fire is quite charming. Keep us updated yo!

Yeah it's a rough version, I had to rush it as my bandwidth was about to expire. Over christmas I'm going to get together a longer/clearer version that also showcases the spell system and gameplay.

The voice says:
That is not dead which can eternal lie
And with strange eons, death may die

Thanks for the comments guys, I appreciate it.

Here's my latest update, a trimmed down version of the opening cut scene on Youtube.

The sound and video quality are pretty bad, but it should give you at least some idea of what Homunculi is all about.

Those look really awesome, you gave them a hell of a lot of character considering they are B&W whih blank faces. I can't see any glaring errors. Maybe tweak the leg on No.6 though.

Just thought I'd throw in some explosions I did recently.

Personally I found that studying a real explosion (Youtube vids) makes it much easier to animate them.
While all the dynamic movement can be tricky, it's not that hard to get the hang of it if you meticulously study how a real explosion works.

Heres a good one:

Good first attempt though, InCreator. A few more frames for the smoke dissipation would be good (This bit should be easier since you can just erase the smoke bit by bit), also the fiery frame you have (Frame 4) should be brighter and rounder with almost no smoke, and a little more orange all round the fire.

Like this frame from my link:

Thanks man, that works great.

I found the following code in the manual to fade objects out,

Example:

int trans = object[0].Transparency;
while (trans < 100) {
 trans++;
 object[0].Transparency = trans;
 Wait(1);
}

But I can't seem to get it to do the opposite effect, ie, fade an object in.
Played around with it for a few hours but I'm kinda stumped. Anyone know how to do this?

I think that 'winter holiday' will fit in general just to be p.c?

Oh, discriminating against Australians are we? I see how it is...  :P

Yeah, down here christmas makes you sweat! Father christmas must either don boardshorts this side of the equator, or suffer heatstroke. Also he shaves the reindeer.

Hard to vote, all entries awesome.

Idea: Nihilyst
Atmosphere: Nihilyst
Design: Cuestaluis
Composition: Chicky
Functionality: Xenophon

Yeah schnellersparrow is hard to spell at 3am :)
I doubt combat will play any part at all, the 'psuedo survival horror' will be more along the lines of using cunning to elude or defeat your adversaries.

Updated my screenshots,  plus a snippet of the 'spell casting' system, although it's not going to be the usual fare in this regard, it will be largely, if not entirely based on real mysticism. Also after stumbling across a vast cache of reference materiel for the setting, it seems 30-40 screens won't really do the game justice. I'm going to shoot for the 60 mark although in all likelyhood this will likely become a full length title.
It makes me wince now to think how my first game 'Trial of the Schnellerparrow' compares to this, man, this makes it look like a piece of crap! I came close to 'killing' Pinback and making new Psuedonym to realease Heartland with, but I suppose you have to walk before you can run. Besides I did make ToSS in 7 days, this I can really sink my teeth into.
Oops, I'm prattling. I'll be back in a month with a trailer and some dope box art.
