Yeah dont give up Crimson! I want to play this divine comedy, it looks really cool man.

I just worked for 42 hours straight my MAGS, until I began to hallucinate really badly and almost collapsed at my comp!
Never give up! Even if it means drinking all the coffee within a 3 kilometre radius!

Oh yeah, I would definitely vote for a 2 day extention for this MAGS, but only if there were no objections from all the other participants.
#262
Thanks guys, I sure hope you'll try my game.
It's definitely much more than a few pretty backgrounds, but it has plenty of those too:D
#263
Here's a preview of my MAGS entry. Three days left to go, I got no time for sleep!

I'll be posting my entry proper at the last possible minute.

Thanks Khris, it works!

Beginners' Technical Questions / Solved

Sorry to post such a nub question, but I got only 4 days to get my game done for MAGS and Im wasting valuable time trawling through the tutorials and forum;

I cant seem to find a command that just lets me display text as soon as a room loads, is there a simple way to have a narrative text appear during my intro scene?
#266
Just noticed this comp, and I decided to enter. I've never used AGS before, plus I plan to draw complex custom graphics for everything, and compose all the music. Crazy? perhaps.
Only time will tell.

Pinback, even though you're the thread starter; it's customary to keep c&c out of this forum, let alone paint-overs.
That being said, your edit is a very good one, and I think it would make a nice topic in the critics lounge.

My apologies, you see I couldnt seem to find a comprehensive set of rules for the activities. Speaking of which, I assume as thread starter I cant enter this competition myself?

Great work Misj'! I like it a lot!

About the focal points, I'm no expert but it seems to me that if you darken your shadows and add contrast and splashes of light, that should accentuate the focal point(s) you want to create. It will add a bit more depth too. Not that I think your piece needs changing, youve got a great style there, very eldritch and dreamy.

Forgive my arrogance, but I did a quick paint over to show you what I mean about the shadows:) This is simply a bit of black in the overhangs and some light yellow on the rock faces.

NOT AN ENTRY (duh!)

The theme for this Background Blitz is:

The Tower.

It can be inside the top floor of a towering skyscraper. Amid the steps of a tower of Doom. Atop a towering oak tree. As long as theres a generous amount of tall thing involved.

Be creative!

Limitations;

The background must be AGS compatible.

Thanks Onedollar,
I really like yours too dude.

And yes someone give me a tablet. Or some paper even, I could really use a sheet of cold pressed cotton duck.
Sweet cotton duck, it feels like satin under my fingertips... Mmmmmmm. It's the paper of kings.

Yeah, old school charm vs. new school dynamics is a tough call indeed.

Whew, thought I was gonna miss the deadline for a while there.
I did this in around ten hours starting this morning, pencil and mouse only.

Season: Winter

Size: 800x600

Colors: 32 bit

You guys are pretty harsh. I never implied that I was a professional, in fact I'm pretty sure I made it clear that PhotoShop is nothing more than a hobby to me.

Hmm, it wasnt that harsh.
Heres some critique I got recently for some of my artwork;

"Homosexual buttraped faggotry... with idiotic hairstyles - F*** IT. "

Now THATS harsh! And this was artwork I had created from scratch and poured my heart into.
I think it's assumed if someone is making sigs that they are recycling someone elses concept art.
However I gotta admit, the fact that you didnt specifically mention you didn't paint the original work kinda got my hackles up.

Also perhaps you shouldn't have said this to begin with;

Hit me with your harsh words. Please.

I like your composition in the wallpaper by the way.

Hmm.....
I was trying to recall where I could saw this suit before and then I thought... Isn't it a jetpack guy from Starcraft 2?  :)

-----------------
Oh, wait.... or is it a bulky alien from the "Fifth Element"?

It's actually an antique brass deep diving suit:D

OMG, I wish I could draw like that  ::)
Although I am not very good at criticizing drawings, I wish to note that at first glance I was confused by a cup, that is standing on floor to the up-right of small table with a saw. With the cup standing on the table on nearly same horizontal level, that cup can look like it is hanging in the air, or falling down.
Or, rather it looks like the table top is too close to the floor in that place (perspective mistake?).
I hope my comment is understandable ;)

Arg! Yeah I see what you mean Crimson Wizard. I did this so quick I didn't notice until you pointed it out, it's basically just a bad tangent combined with weak perspective. I'll make a note to address that,thanks dude!

And hey, maybe you can draw like this! I used to suck at art, looking at better work than mine made me want to practise everyday.
It's 80% practice, 10% talent, and 10% google image searching for cool machinery to use as reference materiel.

Thanks guys!

That blank area is supposed to have leaks (its raining outside) dripping past into the buckets and such.
I've been doing tons of art for this cyberpunk RPG lately though, where I have to plan for large open game areas, I suspect this is to blame for my lack of dynamics here. My utter lack of any planning or forethought couldnt help either. I better go play though SQ4 or something before I do a test AGS game.

I will definitely try to do an actual game of some description within the next few months. I just can't decide whether to make it a humorous caper like Sam and Max, or a bleak disturbing ordeal like Dark Seed... Maybe a bit of both... Mmm, so many juicy choices!

Hi,

I just discovered AGS and of course I'm like whoa, now I can finally make an adventure game, woo!

I did this background this afternoon, just to make a small test project in AGS.
I put some music together for it too. My bro said it sounded like music from some game called "Deus Ex"
which I've never played.
I say, if it's 3d and has no tedious puzzles, it's gay.

Anyway, I hope to be hanging around here a lot in the future, probably be offering my services as an artist in return for some programming help before long, math and code isn't really my bag!
