Dang, working on a new project that fits this brief precisely. To enter or not to enter...

That character portrait also fits the style perfectly Mr Grundislav.

Yeah, those portraits really sit nicely in the mix. Delicious stuff.

Seeing this is making me want to un-retire from game development. Damn fine looking stuff.

That's really purdy. Highly impressive. I think the shading is fine, although if it were me I might try an alpha transparency overlay of dark shading to go over the sprite, one that kind of "lines up" with the background shadows. Just to break it up and darken it some.

Woo! Thank you!

I'll brainstorm for a bit and post the next comp soon.

Incidentally I almost made up some graphics for the chant box for this track to go with, but then thinking of that made me want to make it into an actual game/AGS UI of sorts whereby you could press corroded buttons on it to add new harmonies etc... Maybe I'll just make it and bury it in my next game somewhere where virtually noone will find it, and those that do will waste hours trying to use my red herring on stuff... Ahh yeah. :D

I did something for this a few days ago and wasn't satisfied with the results enough to show it to anyone - but seeing as it's a bit quiet (A.K.A easy win) I thought I'd post it up. :)

I was thinking a droning sky temple ambiance, with kind of an electronic Buddhist chant box feel.

Sorry you didn't get any entries for the last blitz, jwalt. Seemed like a neat topic.

Here's my entry; the most recent completed background from a new project I'm working on.

Wonderful! You had me hooked at stormy suburban night.

You should post your most recent screenshots so we can see what areas need work.

Don't ever hit Danger Dice guys. Just don't do it.

In your excitement, don't forget to post up the next contest!  :)

Fully. I've actually got some keys plugged in ready for this one.

Wow, I was really overwhelmed by the quality and variety of all your entries into this comp.

dactylopus' plodding and oppressive chord progression reminiscent of horror games from a bygone era. janleht's riveting bassline and atonality. Diamond16's playfully wicked track. Sunny Penguin's soundscape awash with half remembered could-have-beens... Gah, I could go on all day about these awesome entries (not that I think I'm qualified to) but a winner must be chosen.

Congratulations RaGG!

I couldn't get enough of your hauntingly beautiful piece, really an exquisite track I could listen to looped ad-infinitum. I believe it is now up to you to begin the next music comp.
Great showing peeps!

Great stuff dactylopus!

Competition is closed. Excellent turnout and entries people -- this will be a tough one to judge.

Will announce the winner within 24 hours.

Sweet loop janleht! Submissions are closing soon so if you have something WIP better finish it up now.
#55
Great tracks, Sunny Penguin and Diamond16! Looks like I'm gonna have a tough job judging these.

Keep 'em coming folks. :D

@RaGG

Really good track, it does at least two of the things these short loops should go I think; retain interest/mood but also make you want to keep listening, even after hearing the loop multiple times.

I'm going to have to make a ruling of only one entry person, but that said please feel free to post multiple tracks here. Just specify which one is your actual entry - I trust you all to put your best foot forward. :)

Create a short piece of music (or even ambient sound) no more than a minute long. The piece must be able to be looped as seamlessly as possible, and of course the challenge will be to compose something that won't grate on the nerves or become boring after one has listened to it for five minutes. Less is probably more when it comes to melodies for this type of tune -- but please feel free to compose whatever makes it fun for you -- naturally.

Rules:

*Piece must be no more than 1 minute long. Shorter is fine
*Entries must play for at least five minutes, with your piece looped however many times needed to bring it to that length
*Any instrument(s) or styles of music are welcome. This of course includes experimental and/or soundscape compositions
*Feel free to post multiple tracks here, but you must chose only one for your entry

Questions are welcome. You have two weeks.

Dirty dithering be damned. I like it.

Good showing guys - surprized I took it home as I thought you guys' entries were quite awesome! :)

Might post some more stuff from the 'ol 4600 here sometime. I built a massive 56 socket patchbay for it with a beat following white LED matrix - it looks pretty sweet!
