Personally, I'm rooting for Skynet. You gotta admire their perseverance in the face of so many temporal paradoxes and setbacks. No matter how many times they're destroyed, they always try again. (Just like the New York Jets  := )

Also, it should be mentioned that in the year 2011, the giant Zentradi still hiding in isolated areas of the ruined Earth begin their uprisings against the newly formed UN Spacy (and mankind in general). So everyone keep an eye out for that too. Those guys can squash you like a bug.

Finally, if you don't mind a little 50's sci-fi there's It Came From the Desert, a delightful little action-adventure about the dangers of ATOMIC BOMBS in a 50's setting.  I have only fond memories of this game, although the sequel, ANTHEADS, I didn't really get into in spite of it being a faithful (and direct) sequel.

And Rocket Ranger!  :D

I'll have a think and see if I can come up with something.  :)

Awesome. I look forward to reading it. And that goes for the rest of you, AGS community!  :D

What if you have to woo the chicken? Romance her and make her think she's the only chicken in the world for you. So she lays a perfect egg... just for you. Then you take the egg and callously tell her you never cared about her at all. You were only in it for the eggs, breaking her tiny, chicken heart. That seems like a pretty rotten thing to do.  :=

Well, it's time for another fortnightly writing competition. So pack your bags and fuel up your jet pack.

NEXT STOP:
THE FUTURE!

That's right! This competition takes place in the world of tomorrow. Is it a gleaming future of flying cars and friendly robots? Or have the robots turned on their human creators and now force us to towel them off while they lounge in their oil baths? Or maybe an asteroid strikes the earth... an asteroid filled with pirate dinosaurs ready to turn the tables on the mammal usurpers and their even more usurping robot masters! Anything is possible in the future!

So pick up your laser pens and fire up your Univacs -- the future will be upon us before you know it (April 27, to be specific). And only you, AGS community, can shape that future into something worth reading about.

And In The Future, Everyone Gets A Trophy!

I await your visions of the world of tomorrow! :D

Nooooooo Calin beat me :-[

And you wrote two stories! That should count for something!

Anyhoo, thanks for all the votes, everyone.  :-*  I'll try to get a theme for the next contest together in a day or two.

I've quite unexpectedly found out that I'm Echinacea. "You are a health conscious person, both your health and the health of others. You know all about the health benefits and dangers of the world around you."

I expected to be either a tumbleweed or poison oak. How pleasant to find that this old world is still full of surprises.

Ponch's read like the opening chapter of a great novel

Thanks. Ever since I wrote it, I find myself going back to that world whenever I have a chance to let my mind wander. There were loads of tidbits I thought of but didn't include because I didn't want to turn it into some sort of jumbo-sized entry. But I think I may make an AGS game out of that story one of these days.

Also, I'd love to vote for Ponch (I hear he suffered a terrible humiliation in the last MAGS contest and is still crying himself to sleep every night ;) ) but that would probably be gauche. So I'm voting for Atelier instead. Very groovy stuff.

I think all the Scottish AGSers are from edinburgh...

So... is that the only city in Scotland or something? Is there just not enough acreage for another town? Not even a tiny village or something? Weird. I would have thought it was larger than that. I guess The Highlander was filmed in Canada or something. Damn you, Hollywood! Stop giving me false impressions of the world! (And if there aren't really giant robots and magical school girls crowding their way into Japan, no one tell me. I must have some illusions to cling to!)

I've played most of your Barn Runner Games  ;)

Ah ha! So you do play mediocre games! The truth is finally out!  ;)

And as far as Wired calling our little corner of the web a throng of mediocrity, I'd argue that this place is more like a school for aspiring game makers. Thanks to the database, you can watch some real talent develop over time. Pick any of our current forum superstars and watch how they grow from those first awkward but earnest games to the later, more polished games that are the result of applying the lessons learned from their early struggles. We've got quite a course catalog here for newbies to study and find inspiration (and tips on what pitfalls to avoid) when they start to make their own games.

Mediocrity? Wired can suck it.  8)

the trick is to not download the generic ones  ;)

But then how will anyone discover all my games? ;)

I'd say that the current crop of commercial adventure games is more of an example of a "throng of generic point-and-click adventure games."

You could say the same thing about the throng of generic shooters too. Further, if the adventure game genre were truly dying off, then I doubt there would be much of a throng.  ::)

That reviewer is a doody head. I suggest we all point at laugh at him and not let him sit at our table when lunchtime comes. That'll show him!

But IndieBoy! And other Scottish AGSers :D

Frodo is Scottish. You should drop in unannounced at her flat at 5 in the morning. Scottish people love surprise company at sunrise! (The hugs may feel like stabs though).  :=

whenever I picture him mentally, he's a whole lot more...athletic. I guess Blade Runner left a big influence!

Well, he was a young man then. Now he's pretty old. Time does funny things to all of us. ;)

I liked it. If you like eye candy of every sort, then this is a fine movie. I wish he had hired someone to rewrite the script for him, but you gotta take what you can get if you're in the market to watch hotties fight a dragon in a WWII bomber. Hollywood doesn't make too many movies like that. ;)
