Ponch- Prick looks like he's using a hell of a lot fewer than 32 colors to me.

True. He's using eleven or twelve colors, I think. But I never made a fill pattern for any of his shirts that uses less than forty colors. If the game were ever to be made, I'd probably use this nice vomit-y green one I made way back when but never used. But I had to play by the rules... this time. (Fight the power!)

Originally I thought it would be cool to have a Van Helsing type character beating up all the traditional monsters from film and fiction such as the Wolfman, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, Dracula etc, I only got to do Frankenstein though... :(

I think this needs to be made into a real game as soon as possible. Also, I like Frank's shirt. ;)

How about combining the two?
If we can use Dualnames game with a full blown server, and create a room especially for the comp with a podium & stage and everybody would be able to login, I think that could be awesome!

Massively Multiplayer Online Award Show (MMOA)! Man, that would be awesome! And a first, I think. Everyone could log in, create an avatar, and then experience sitting in polite rows while the stars of the AGS community take the stage and give speeches that go on for far too long.*

Someone needs to make this happen!

Barring that, I vote for a downloadable game like SSH did. I just find them to be incredibly neat.

Excuse the double post, but I wanted to assure proper bumpage (and modifying the previous post seemed a bit out of place anyway).

So, without further ado, here is my submission for Pixelween!

Required Game Play Screen

This stunning action shot shows Prick* (yeah, that's right, i drug the Barn Runner universe into this. I apologize for nothing!) navigating the sewers of the city, fighting his way through hordes of the (SPOILER) that make this stinky place their home. It's old school, side scrolling, mutant blasting goodness!

Bonus Menu Screen

And here is the menu for this (as yet) non-existent yet totally awesome game. For some reason, it features Debbie instead of Prick. And for some curious and shockingly unexplored reason, she's all dolled up like Pam Grier from the height of 70s blaxploitation awesomeness. Can you dig it? (I knew that you could).

And so there you have it, my entry for Pixelween (and only the second AGS contest I've ever entered). Will I get my heart broken by yet another brutal snubbing? Hell yes I will. But I don't care, baby. Because thanks to this little side project, I had an excuse to watch two of my favorite movies: Coffy and the movie that this game's monsters are taken from...

Spoiler
C.H.U.D.
[close]

One of my favorite low budget yet cool concept movies from the early 80s.

Let the overwhelming indifference to my efforts begin! :D

* In order to meet the required color limitations, Prick is wearing an unusually subdued shirt in this game. (I did what I had to do, but it just feels wrong somehow).

Crom. Since I know the answer to the only question Crom cares about, getting into heaven would be a snap.

I get "invalid or deleted file" when clicking on the download link...

Try this link:

http://www.barnrunner.com/OSD/OSD002.zip

That should help.

I think it would be the first sprite jam you've entered so by all means do so!
Clearly you've forgotten all about my Snoopy fish from a while back. Tsk tsk.

If enough people are interested in this and need more time I'm sure I can extend the deadline to accommodate. :)

I have something I hope to work on this weekend or the next. I think I can get it in before the deadline. But we'll see, I guess.

Good topic, by the way.

So if this is to be a pimping adventure game, what other genres has the OSDverse yet to explore?

Was that DOOM style AGS shooter module ever finished? That could be the next one. Oceanspirit Dennis and the Haunted Tunnels of Perfect Squareness.

Someone should make that happen right away.

AGS wants you to enjoy Christmas with your family.

The Princess Marian series saved SSH's marriage (I don't know if this is true or not, but I say let the tabloids sort it out).

Bill Cosby was the first celebrity to appear in an AGS game (I think).

The Barn Runner series has never won a single AGS award. (Shocking I know).

And that's about all I can think of at the moment.

I've actually started working on a small OSD title of my own with LPR being the main character (OSD: A Ray of hope).
I hope it would not contradict yours...
But I guess in the worst case scenario, Ray too will split into two different universes.

AGS community! Your attention please!

The crisis has passed and you may go back to your normal lives. After a quick exchange of PMs, I feel confident that Tzachs and I have come to an arrangement that will preserve the precious, fragile Oceanspirit Dennis continuity while still allowing you to have two (count 'em: 2) Life Partner Ray games within a relatively short span of time.

We appreciate the bravery and determination you all showed during these trying times and we want to reassure you that it is now safe to go on with your normal lives.

Thank you and God bless Texas.

OSD splits into a new universe every time a new game comes out. ;)

But I sent you a PM. I'm sure we can work out any overlap issues if we just believe in Oceanspirit Dennis.

Thanks for that, but kindly stop mucking about with Oceanspurt Dunce and get back to Barn Runner...IMMEDIATELY.

I'll have you know I have outstanding codes to put to good use, bub, and you're seriously harshing my buzz by making me wait to do so :).

The beauty of OSD is that I can work on a Dennis game on my laptop while sitting at my desk on my lunch break. All I need is my trusty old copy of AGS 2.72 and MS Paint.

Conversely, to work on a Barn Runner game, I need a pencil, some paper, a scanner, PhotoShop, a 2 liter of Diet Dr. Pepper, a stick of Old Spice High Endurance (Fresh scent, thank you very much), and the complete soundtracks to both Bubblegum Crisis and Rocky IV. Also, to ensure that I can "make the magic happen", I need to be wearing my best Hugh Hefner robe (and nothing else). This makes it difficult (and possible illegal) to make the magic happen at work.

And that is I like to get down Barn Runner games are made. The more you know...

Now if you'll excuse me, I need to crack open some Diet Dr. Pepper and slip into a robe, and annoy my neighbors by playing "Hearts on Fire" far too loudly while I sharpen some pencils. Whew, I'm getting sweaty just thinking about it. Good thing I have a stick of Old Spice handy.

Looks righteous! Is LPR gonna be the main character? Will there be BIG PIMPING? No voice acting I'm guessing... But did you forget about Snake?

To answer the last question first: Holy crap. I DID forget about Snake! And just as his avatar was about to become season appropriate again! See? That's what I get for doing that movie on my lunch breaks (and all from memory, I might add)*. Damn it. I'm sorry Snake. Can you ever forgive me? Are we still BFFs?  :'(

And yes, LPR will be the main character. And since two of your inventory items are a pimpin' hat and a pimpin' cane, you can make a reasonable guess that some amount of pimping action will occur.

No there won't be any voice acting. Hell, these OSD games are the first games I've made for AGS that actually have sound effects. So baby steps, man. Baby steps.

Right on,

Ponch

* Snake will be included in the credits when the game comes out. I promise.

I'm glad you guys like it. I had a feeling that this community was indeed the funkiest place on the internet. I'm glad to see that I was right.

For the record, the teaser is a large slice of the opening movie. It (and the game) was made with AGS 2.27 (yes, I'm a cranky old man who clings to the past) and MS Paint. I should have the game done in another few weeks. But that all depends on how many uninterrupted lunch breaks I can get between now and then.

Stay funky, AGSers

Normally I'd post this in the "Games In Development" sub-forum, but I'm not quite ready to unveil the unmatched righteousness of the in-game screen shots. Instead, I'm posting a (funky) teaser trailer here for the soon-to-be-released next slice of awesomeness from the ever growing world of Oceanspirit Dennis.

SQUARE PENIKS PRESENTS
OCEANSPIRIT DENNIS: THE NAKED AND THE NINJA

Download and dig it here!
(Zip format.  3 Megabytes)

So funky that your eyeballs won't ever be the same!

Coming in October.

I'm simply shocked by how many left-handed people are skulking around these forums. And here I was thinking this was an upstanding place filled with decent, hard-working right-handed people.

Goodness, what is happening to my interwebs? ;)
