Anything made by VW, Toyota, or Honda. If you're on a budget, then those are the manufacturers for you. The most reliable cars I ever owned were made by those companies. Plus, the prices on older, used models are reasonable and, even used, they're still dependable.

Just my two cents.

Well, it's just an AGS game, but I never laughed harder than when I watched the intro to the first Barn Runner.  Classic.

BaRoN, you absolutely made my day, dude! Thanks so much!

My favorite opening remains Full Throttle, which, by the way, is probably my favorite adventure game ever. Also, it's the only adventure game that I've played more than twice. That certainly explains why my Barn Runner games are (especially in later chapters) are heavy on cutscenes and fairly easy in the puzzle department.

Close runner up, the very moody opening to the first Gabriel Knight. Loved the poem and how it was expanded as the game went on.

Besides Mythbusters, Battlestar Galactica is the only show I make sure to watch every week. Best show to come down the pike in years.

So THAT'S what CJ looks like! Another of the great questions finally put to rest.

"Pikey"? See, there's another word I can use! Thanks, Emerald!

I read the thread ... and I can't see anything that would warrant a banning.

Which is itself a bannable offense, I suspect.

I never go to Gameboomers forums for this very reason. The level of ass-hattery is simply astounding.

Also, thank you Limpingfish for giving me a new word: gobshite. I shall begin using this word at once, and often.... until all my friends demand that I stop.

I'm still using 2.72 and plan to for a while. The game I'm hoping to get out the door in a couple of months has been in the works on and off since 2004 (it was started with 2.56d!). I'll probably upgrade to 3.x for later games. I've played around with it a bit and it seems pretty swanky, though the new interface will take some getting used to.

Yeah, its like those conspiracy theorists who spoil the illusion of a free democracy by letting the cat out of the bag that Tony Blair killed Diana or that LBJ killed JFK, etc.

I thought it was Elton John who had Di offed. Something about needing another hit so he could get a solid gold toilet.

Also, everyone knows JFK faked his own death and now lives in a retirement home with Elvis Presley fighting the undead or something. Sheesh, what sort of American history are they teaching you guys on that side of the pond?

Oh, please God, let the penguin be a playable character!

Looks good, Dave. I'm sure it'll be another winner!

This is a known problem that has happened to some posts since the forum came back on.

Yeah, I'd PM'd Darth Mandarb to see what might have caused it. What strikes me as so strange is that no matter how I modify that first post and save it, it still remains blank.

I blame global warming. Or possibly the falling dollar.

UPDATE: I think it has to do with the number of images in the post. I trimmed a bunch of them out and now my post shows up. Has the number pf images allowed been changed or something?

I predict an AGS-Nintendo merger for next year.

Playing AGS games with the Wiimote would be awesome. If that should happen, I predict a flood of Leisure Suit Larry fan sequels and remakes.

I guess it's past midday in most of the world now so the joke is probably over.

So you're telling me AGS won't support XBox's state of the art boob physics? Will there at least be a plugin or module of some sort? Most of the appeal of my next slate of games would depend heavily on this ;)

Well this is just strange as hell. Is anybody seeing anything in my first post? And if not, does anyone know what's causing it? Since the forums came back up, my first post disappeared and no matter how many times I modify, I can't get anything to "stick." It just keeps coming up blank. I've tried several different things and that first post just seems to be made of telon or something.

Oh well. New game in two months. I'd show you pictures, but apparently the universe is conspiring against me.

Hello all,

The following error has popped up twice in the last two days, crashing AGS when I save and test the game.

"An exception 0x0000005 occurred in AGSEDIT.EXE at EIP = 0x0049FC15, ACI version 2.72.652 while saving the room."

It's only happened twice and I can't get it to crash reliably (not that this is a bad thing). Since the second occurrence, I've tried repeatedly without success to get it to crash.

Any idea what's causing (or caused) it? The version of my game I'm working on is the post--beta testing version. I'm just tweaking a few things here and there before I release it in two months. If I have to go back to my last backed up build, I'll lose a helluva lot of work, so I'm hoping that this error doesn't mean my game files are corrupt in some way.

Thanks in advance,

Sweet!

I can't wait until I get the official green light to do a Barn Runner Xtreme Beach Volleyball! I've always felt that the one thing my games were always lacking in were dynamic boob physics!

After all, I'm only a marginally competent artist and most of my puzzles are pretty easy. But once Noriko, Debbie, and The Chief are bouncing around in the background, the download counter for my games should skyrocket!

Thank you CJ for opening the doors to a brighter, bouncier, XBoxier world!

I just downloaded the game, but won't run really. I did the HOTU installation, and there is sound, but only on the first menu. When I try to watch the intro, or credits, or play the game, it closes...

Just in case: any ideas?

Gah! You posted while I was still writing. So sorry all for the back to back posts.

Nikolas, try these guys. This is where I went to get my SS1 and 2 to run under XP:

http://www.strangebedfellows.de/index.php/board,1.0.html

They have a bunch of resources and guides. You'll probably find what you need there.

I see 10 cutscenes in the file folder.

These are the cutscenes I have in my SS2 folder
cs1.avi plays when you start the game
starport.avi plays after you have chosen your career
shuttle1.avi plays after you have chosen your 1st training year
shuttle2.avi plays after you have chosen your 2nd training year
shuttle3.avi plays after you have chosen your 3rd training year
cs2.avi plays right after it
cs3.avi plays after finishing the game
landing.avi (no idea when this plays.)

They play just fine under XP service pack 2, but if I remember correctly, I had to install a new codec or something. Or maybe I had to download all new versions of these movies. Can't remember. It's been a while since I actually played the game.

Hope that helps.

Ponch: What with the recent theory that our universe has a skeleton? .. Could it be still flat?

It was just discovered that our universe is flat and not horseshoe shaped (as Einstein believed, I think) or spherical as many models suggested.

It's still infinite in every direction, but space/time itself is flat. That is to say, parallel lines always remain parallel out into infinity. If the universe were horseshoe shaped, the lines would approach each other, but never intersect (just forming an asymptote). If the universe were spherical, then eventually the lines would intersect, and by definition no longer be parallel as far as space/time is concerned. (Though they would still appear parallel to us, as we're in the same state of existence as the lines are).

Sorry if no one else wanted to read that. I've loved this sort of stuff since I was a kid and they promised me that I would be living on the moon by now.

On an appropriately religious note, got to hide a bunch of Easter eggs for my girlfriend's nieces and nephew this weekend. They ran around like a laughing goofs looking for the eggs, getting grass stains all over their Sunday best. Made me feel like a kid again to be a part of that.

If this world is all there is, then moments like that make it all worthwhile.

System Shock 1 and 2 are among the greatest games ever made. The ghosts on Von Braun scared the hell out of me.
