Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Re: AGS Group

The first two groups were thrown together randomly, because most people preferred a lottery. I don't think anybody will object if you just choose your group, if you have a preference. Or you can make your own one-man-lottery ;)

AGSA also has a couple of free slots. At the moment there are only 5 active people in our group (or 4 if you count team ProblemBehr as one). So if more people want to enter, now would be a good time.

I just made a backup and tested it with our project. I opened the project, played around with it, compiled and started the game.
Everything works as expected. Great work! :)

Oh, and I agree that the horizontal layout looks better.

1. I don't think there's a way to generate new dialog options at runtime, if this is what you mean. As far as I know you also can't change option texts.

2. You can switch dialog options on and of with Dialog.SetOptionState

I'd also prefer small groups of 8 at most. I want to be able to read all the progress reports and still work on the game. ;)
Lottery seems like a good idea, I love surprises.

Ah! I didn't realize I had to

click on the bottle three times until he finally picks it up.

I keep forgetting that player characters can be a little stubborn sometimes ;)
Thanks, Tabata!

I really liked the game. Nice atmosphere with simple but appealing visuals. The story is weird and twisted, and much darker than I expected. It's definitely worth replaying and watching the different endings, as each ending contributes to the story. Too bad you can't simply load older savegames to quickly get to the alternative endings.
However, I highly recommend this unique little gem. Well done!

Wow, I suddenly seem to have lost all my adventure gaming skills. :-D
I can't even solve the first puzzle.
Spoiler
I have the bottle (filled with water), the label and the toilet paper core. I've pushed the box all the way to the right (apparently smashing the chain attachement, but it's still attached from the top). Now I'm running out of ideas and start using everything on everything.

Thanks!
It's great to get such a positive response for a tune that I've posted one year ago. :)

With a standard perspective view, it can be tricky to set up the camera correctly.
I get pretty good results using an orthographic camera instead, facing the character directly and pointing about 10 degrees downwards. An orthographic view really helps, because it gives a neutral undistorted result that is much more usable with most background types you find in an adventure game.

(I've made an example rendering that illustrates this quite well: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1891681/perspective.png)

Thanks, Crimson Wizard! I just gave it a go, and so far everything seems to work. :)

Combining these styles will never look convincing, but there are a few things you can do. First, you should at least use the same resolution for all characters. Mixing low-res and high-res characters is a bad idea, I think. If your characters don't look good at 320x200, adjust the models. Make them cartoony, make important details bigger, remove unnecessary detail and forget about realism.
Try to change the shader settings (if your software allows it) to get rid of the smooth shading. Or do some post-editing, use a colour reduction filter for example. Then make the colors more saturated.

Very quick and bad example:

Strange, I don't have this problem. Maybe try to resize the window, or try different window manager settings in Wine. If all else fails, you can always edit the script files with an external editor.

The AGS Editor doesn't work with Mono, but you can use Winetricks to install .NET 2.0, that should work. Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu, so there should be a winetricks package in the repositories.

That's great, Khris! Looks like an interesting approach. I hope you can finish it, I'd love to give it a try. :)

And before we forget to put this into a command... ;)

Thanks! Brightness and contrast are subject to change, I'll wait for the final version of the background. And of course AGS can change the brightness and tint of the character at runtime, so we can adjust that for each room if necessary.

Yes of course, we're not sacrificing the story for better shading ;)
But we still want to do it as good as possible.

Here are three different versions:
1. Very smooth shading
2. The simple shading we are currently using
3. Simple shading, but with more light and much smaller shadows.

Which one would you prefer?
