Well, science is indeed responsible for Nagasaki and Hiroshima. There was a joint effort of top leading scientist and a powerful nation to build a bomb that would and did kill a large amount of humans. Because most of us were on the allies field, the bomb may be seen as the "right" way to end the war.
The USA did drop the bomb, because they had the leading technology and the funds to do it.

Sorry, but a few scientists are not science as a whole, just as a few fundamentalists are not religion as a whole. So the USA had the leading technology to drop the bomb? Oh, of course this means poor USA had no choice, they simply HAD to throw it, because of science, you know? This is just ridiculous.
If you make technology responsible for any possible misuse, you should stop using technology right now. Your PC has technology in it (developed by evil scientists) that can and will be used to kill thousands of people. The same technology that you use everyday to browse these forums is used by dictatorial states to control people and to suppress their free will. And you are telling me I should blame Konrad Zuse?

Wow, I totally missed this one. What an interesting idea, those screenshots look fantastic. I'm curious what your game will look like in motion.

As I'm absolutely incapable to draw a single decent looking line, I tried to cheat using cross stitching as a basis.
You aren't cheating. What you are doing is a lot like 2-color pixel art, but even more awesome. :-D

The black one looks fantastic. :)
There are some very nice ideas in this thread, this will be hard to decide.

at least 2 of Einstein's theories have been proven wrong... the brambles grow on both sides of the bush.

Yes, but there's still a major difference between science and religion in this regard. In science, being proven wrong is part of the process. You can't really prove a theory to be true, but you can prove it to be wrong. This is something you have to understand when you talk about science. It's all about falsifiablility. In science, a theory should better be testable. I come up with theory, you prove it wrong - and that's fine, because now we can come up with a better theory. That's the process, and that's quite a difference between science and religion.
If you manage to prove one of Einstein's theories to be wrong, you are the hero. If you manage to prove a religious dogma to be wrong, you are a filthy heretic! ;)

A question for all you folks wanting to ship me off to Blender Summer School: I've got Blender 2.64a on this system. Is there any way to change the interface background color from that dark, dark gray, that effectively blots out the menu items, to something more readable?

In the "User preferences" Window you can choose between several themes and also create your own.
I'll recommend Blender too. It takes some time to get used to the interface, but once you get the hang of it (and once you know the most important hot keys!), it is a fantastic tool for all kinds of 3D animation.

Maybe it's true that there's no real objectivity, at least not for us humans. Everything gets filtered through my senses and my brain. So what I see and what I feel isn't necessarily true. But that doesn't mean that science is nonsense, because there's a little more to science than looking at things and guessing. And obviously science has got a few things right - otherwise we wouldn't be sitting in front of our computers to discuss these things on a web forum. ;)

Ah, that's why I love these forums. Just post something with a ridiculously high resolution (800x600), and everyone's at a loss. Muhahahaha! ;)

That's definitely a C64 game. Is it "Newcomer"?

I like it. The layout looks nice and clean, and everything is easily accessible. The only thing I would change is the width of the text. As it is now, your line length is more than 150 characters, way too much to be comfortable to read.

Congratulations to everyone! I voted for Mordalles too, but this was a tough choice. Even though I just watched, it was very inspiring to follow everyone's progress. The results are absolutely awesome.

Thanks selmiak!
I tried gradients but didn't like it, so now I use a semi-transparent background. What do you think?
I used wordpress, because with wordpress it's easy to expand the site. I wanted a small static site, but didn't want to rule out the possibility to add a blog and other things later on. But you guys have convinced me anyway, so I'll add a news section.

Thank you for your comments! :)
The design was meant to be neutral. I like it when websites have a clear structure that doesn't detract from the content. Don't know if it's too neutral though. Any suggestions?

@cat: You're right about the font in the player, but I'm afraid I can't change that. The only thing I could do is use a different player.

@Anian: Putting the music in front is an interesting idea. The portfolio (as it is now) would appear strange as a front page, so it should at least have a short introductory text. But I like the idea, so maybe I'll do it that way.
Actually I'd prefer a blog to using twitter. The website is made with wordpress anyway, so that would be easy. I'm not yet sure if I really need a blog, but I'll consider it.

Hi everyone!

So I finally got some webspace and built my long-overdue website. Essentially it's a simple online portfolio, and I'd like to get crit on everything: design, layout, text, colors... just tell me what you like and what you don't like, and if everything works as it should. I'm a non-native speaker, so please report any spelling and grammar mistakes, bad phrasing etc.

Thanks!
