The reason your MIDI music worked was because MIDI music is compiled into the main game exe file. MP3, OGG and WAV music are compiled seperately into the MUSIC.VOX file, which you have to click Rebuild VOX Files to update.

Thanks for your interest, your input has been noted.

I believe a couple of people have managed to get the editor working under WINE but obviously it's not an ideal solution.

CJ: I don't know which Beta version since Jimi have showed me the download link. Yes, it does happen when I hit the "next" button.

Download the latest beta 4 and try it out, just to make sure that the problem is still there.

Does it matter what name you type in for the game by the way, or does it always crash?

scotch: actually this isn't such a silly request - I think she compiled her game with the older version, and someone has just downloaded the game and is getting the error message.

So I'm afraid yes, the solution would be to upgrade your game to the latest AGS version and upload it again :/

Right, well AGA and myself have now booked our flights, so there's no going back.

The 21:05 return flight is the one we've gone for as it's cheaper than the earlier one, but when making your choices make sure you can get home from the airport at that time of day.

Also, all Brits remember to fill in an E111 form, which entitles you to free emergency medical treatment in other countries. You can get it from any post office.

Which version of AGS were you using? I think this bug was fixed back in v2.52, but I can't remember exactly.

A similar thing was actually suggested recently - placing an X 'axis' spot on frames in a view, in order to centre the graphics wherever you want.

A partial solution is the SetCharacterViewEx in the latest beta, which allows you to align sprites to their left/right side instead of centre should you so wish, but I appreciate this is not a complete solution.

I shall continue to look into it.

If you're familiar with the editart program for Duke3d and the other Build engine games, I think that's an example of a good interface for such a fuction.

Hehe aw man, Duke was such a classic game. I don't actually remember Build having this feature, but I'll take your word for it ;)

Interesting idea - so it would work like the current Sierra-style With Background speech, but also have the character name as a window title on the text window.

I'll add it to my list.

As for the animation - you can find out the characetr's current loop number iwth the  character[EGO].loop  variable, and use that in a call to AnimateCharacter or whatever.

Saving as "room301.crm" will load in the game, but rooms >300 do not appear in the room list in the editor.
#8050
Which beta version are you using?

Does the crash happen when you click the "Next" button?
#8051
Hmm, that seems like there's something more random at stake here - all the 85 Hz option does is change the request to DirectX when the game starts up. It should have no affect during gameplay.

I'll look into it.

ok, I've edited the original post to avoid confusion about the flight times.

Re: the Byzantine Demo crash, it seems it's to do with having anti-aliasing turned on in the intro on Windows 9x systems. Perhaps that'll shed some more light on the error message...?

Ah, that's interesting. For now the workaround is obviosuly then to disable antialiasing, but I'll look into it and see if there are any obvious problems with the code.

I've had another report of AA crashing the engine, so I might have to remove it completely to be safe.
#8054
This is because AGS doesn't have a special seperate 'head' sprite like the lucasarts games.

If the character kept using his talking view as he walked around, his legs wouldn't be moving, which would look rather silly.

This is a low-priority feature but I will attempt to add it at some point.

Please do not post the same thread in both technical forums. If, after 2-3 days, your question has not been satisfactorily answered in the Beginners Forum, request that a moderator move it here.

You can already have up to 1000 rooms, but only the first 300 will save their state. So if you just have a close-up image room that doesn't need to remember whether objects in it are on or off and so forth, then just call it room400 or whatever and it'll work.

If the dialog messages or inventory become a big problem for you, I can increase them at a later date, so don't worry. I'm sure you can understand we've had experience of people coming along, saying they need the limits increased, then not even getting near them - so feel free to request these features again when you're approaching the limits in your game.

#8057
It's a unofficial feature and I am not prepared to offer any support beyond what is written in the manual. Try it out if you like, and if it works then great, but I'm afraid I can't answer any questions about it.
#8058
I haven't fully looked into the technical issues, and it may be that DirectX has an easy way to switch to another application. Remember though, if the other application runs at a different resolution then you will get the desktop flashing up in between, there's nothing you can do about that.
#8059
Aye, I shall be there.

Oh, also didn't we decide to change the return flight to 14:05 or something?
