Okay here it is:

Exception 0xC0000005 at EIP=0x00477EBC AGSE V2.55.349

It was running on Win ME.

hmm... Gilbert, could you try this:
http://www.agsforums.com/agsedit.zip

and see if it helps at all.

Sorry about this, but there's no way I can test it myself.

Couldn't there be a way to have different colors for those? (for future versions, at least)

Would anyone else find it useful to be able to change the dialog options colour from the character's speech colour?

You're right about dialog options in that they're not really customizable enough, but it's hard to go about designing a customizable scheme for this sort of thing.
#8123
That's a shame - try beta 3a, it now includes some useful debugging output in the crash message which might actually help me locate the problem (now why didn't I put that in a long time ago...)
#8124
Also, the colour of the dialog options is the speech colour of the player character.

Interesting point. It would have to be an optional feature of course, because in AGI-style games the player expects to be able to have a text box and move the character with the arrow keys at the same time.

Hmm. Well then, the help section is wrong.

What version are you using? The help file is right in the version I have here.

Quote*EDIT* It's not working. I must be doing something wrong. I want it to just ignore the walk behinds, because I can only see half of it, but I'm not sure of the syntax. Could someone help me? I can't put SetObjectIgnoreWalkbehinds by itself, so what do I put it in? Thanks.

I don't quite understand your question - as the help file says, if you want object 0 to ignore walk-behinds, then do:

SetObjectIgnoreWalkbehinds (0, 1);

The editor data file is where all your scripts are stored, so if there is a problem with it then that's why you can't edit your script.

When did it start saying "invalid editor data file"? Are you definately not using any beta versions? Did you open the editor.dat file in notepad or anything like that, which could well screw it up?
#8128
This does look cool, I have to say - actually, it looks better than the crappy tex2rtf thing I'm using to generate the AGS help file, so I might have to switch.

I don't see how a child molestor has the right to a second chance.
Why not? Would a tax cheat deserve a second chance? Do you have a reason for this or is it just what you intuit?

People should have the right to go about their daily lives without being attacked. If your actions deliberately harm somebody else, then I don't think you deserve a second chance.

On the other hand, offences like fraud may well be immoral, but they don't prevent other people living their lives.

I did data entry for a summer job once, and I'm sure my brain shrivelled up during that - sitting there for 8 hours a day typing numbers off invoices into a computer.

SetObjectIgnoreWalkbehinds (0,1);

it's not a capital B

Why not allow the user to drag sprites and drop them in a different folder when he need to reorganize sprites? Just an idea. ::)

That is a feature request, and will be done at some point. This was a bug fix, which is rather more important   :P

General Discussion / Re:Simpsons 300th Episode

There is a reason why most shows only run to 7 or 8 series. Seinfeld managed 9, but was starting to flag a bit by the end.

I don't think this is particularly the Simpsons' fault - if you try and stretch any TV show out for 15 years it's bound to get stale and the writers will run out of ideas. It's too bad Fox doesn't know the meaning of a graceful exit.

Regarding speed limits, you plow into someone else going at 90mph instead of the 25 you were supposed to be at, then you do hurt them far more than you would at the 25. The speed limits are not arbitrary, they are calculated as described here: http://faculty.ncwc.edu/toconnor/425/425lect04.htm

Oh I agree, there are specific places where lower limits are in force for good reason. Within residential areas and around schools and so forth, they are there for a reason - but they are still arbitrary. Who decides whether the limit outside a school should be 25 mph or 30 mph?

This is pretty much what Timosity was saying - how far do you go? Because lowering the limit will always decrease accidents, so why don't all roads just have a 10 mph speed limit?

I would argue that having 3000 people killed on the roads each year is the price that society is prepared to pay for the convenience of having their cars.

Quote
Also, everyone driving at the same speed kind of helps the flow. Having lived in a place where people do not do this, let me tell you its hell having people all going at various speeds as they please.

Exactly the same speed is very bad, I find. If you get three lanes of traffic all moving at the same speed, it becomes very difficult to change lanes (for example, when you want to leave the highway), because all traffic is bunched up together.

Whereas when you have the lanes getting progressively faster, from left to right (or vice versa), it becomes much easier to get a gap in the traffic to move into, and to overtake people - the whole system flows much better.

QuoteWhether you 'conform' to something or not, you have no right to go around hurting anyone, physically, financially or otherwise.

Indeed. Ideally, as plasticman says, we shouldn't need punishment, or indeed laws at all, because everybody would simply play nice by sticking to their own morals.

But the fact of the matter is, everybody's definition of right and wrong is different - and we need laws and punishment to ensure that everybody can "live their lives in peace without the threat of violence", I think is the official quote.

It's quite interesting to note what happened in Baghdad - as soon as there were no police, people revert to their natural state, which is to fend for themselves and grab as much as possible.

I don't know where you got the idea that it's under control, but in Beijing they have just ordered the closure of all theatres, cinemas and bars until the number of cases stops growing.

I've just had a dig around and managed to find a copy of the old contributions pack - it's here if anyone's interested:
http://www.agsforums.com/contrib2.zip

The problem with it was that all the backgrounds in it were so varied that you wouldn't be able to use more than one or two in a game - which kinda defeated the point. InstaGame is a much better attempt.

NOTE: This contributions pack is 4 years old, I make no assurances about its contents or anything. It's merely an interesting historical artifact - though if you want to use any of its contents, feel free to do so.

Wouldn't it be much easier to just start a new demo game?

I don't think so, no. A lot of people put a lot of hard work into the current demo game, and to throw it away for no reason would be silly.

The current game does include most of the GUI demos - LEC, AGI and SCI, which are worth keeping, and the main games factory graphics are sweet too, so we don't want to dispose of them unless absolutely necessary.

Beginners' Technical Questions / Re:AGS fonts

Characters do not currently have their own fonts I'm afraid, all characters share the speech font.

The RON page has some under the Resources section
http://ron.the-underdogs.org/

Instagame has a couple
http://sylpher.com/ig/

Please note this isn't a technical scripting question, it would be better posted in the Beginners Forum or AGS Chat forum, but I'll let you off this once.
