I'd be very interested in knowing where it assumed you knew things you didn't, so that I can try and correct that. It's only when a newbie such as yourself works through a tutorial that we actually discover whether it makes sense or not. :)

Relight:  http://www.clickteam.com/English/patchmaker.php

although I am planning an AGS feature to allow game patching for a future version.

I don't think the AGD's would mind me telling you that it contains 4987 sprites, 270 views and 152 rooms.

The RPG Creator: did you not read what I said in the other thread about appropriate forums? Why do you continue to blatantly ignore this?

This is the Completed Games forum, and this thread is for discussion of KQ2. If you want to brag about your game, or pointlessly insult other people, please take it to the General Discussion forum.

I am also having trouble understanding your motivation for being here. In your posts you almost seem to ask "Why haven't I been banned yet?". Which then leads us to think, why are you here? What are you trying to achieve? Are we supposed to be jealous about how many forums you have been banned from in the past? Please, take your posts to the appropriate board.

erm... The RPG Creator, we do have a "AGS Games in Production" forum specifically designed to allow you to show off about your games in it... can we try and stay on-topic in the threads in this forum please? :)

Raggit: I'm curious, in what way is this worse? The original KQ2 was one of the most boring games I have ever played, are you seriously saying that you would have found an exact remake more fun than this? Have you even tried it?

Well, the tutorial isn't finished yet as it only covers about the first half of the manual tutorial. When it's finally done, I'll definately add a contents page.
#8288
Part 3 is now up - this now covers up to the "Walk-to points" part of the manual tutorial.

I hope someone finds it useful.
#8289
Could you guys take a look at this:
http://www.agsforums.com/acintro.htm

Basically, it covers the same stuff as the manual tutorial, but hopefully it's better written and easier to understand since it contains screenshots and stuff.

So far it only covers up to the "Trying out your game" bit from the manual, but if it's useful I can continue it.

Opinions?

2ma2: hehe it's the standard error message if it doesn't recognise the file format. The problem here is that you compiled it with a 2.51 alpha version, but the "latest" version officially is 2.5b, that's why there's confusion.

Quote from: 2ma2 on Thu 10/10/2002 21:14:22Thanks people :D Oh, an actual post from CJ in the ann forum. That was unusual ;)

Heh, yeah I'd better clarify my position in this forum.

Basically, it is my policy not to reply to threads in this forum, saying what I thought of the game. I'd like to, but then if I missed a game, I'd end up getting a mail from its author saying "I noticed you didn't reply to my game, why, didn't you like it? am I really bad?" and so on.
(Before you say anything - from experience, this will happen, I'm not being silly :) ).

However, if there are technical problems that people are having I will of course reply and why not pay a compliment at the same time. :)

Anyway, the point of me writing this is to say to everyone - the games you're all making are great, I download and play as many of them as I possibly can, and I would love to post "excellent work" replies and so on if I could. You guys definately deserve credit for all you're doing. Keep it up :)

I'm currently investigating a problem with dialog options - for those of you it crashed for, do you remember if there were any dialog options spanning two lines at the time?
#8293
Mighty impressive, up there with Moose Wars as one of the best non-adventure games done with AGS :)

Anyway, the reason the text in the corners of the screen disappears when you die is because dying calls RestartGame, and the GUIs were off when the game started.
The solution is to place a  SetRestartPoint();  call after GUIOn(1);  in the room Enters Screen script.

black screen problems - were you guys running any other applications in the background?
I think this might be an allegro bug when DirectDraw loses the screen.

I've noticed that if I have LeechFTP running in the background while playing an AGS game, the screen flashes black from time to time, which could well be the same issue. I think the allegro team is working on a fix.

Quotedammit, you'd better hold it early january!!! if the awards are on in the period where i am not able to be online when i'm settling in the uk, then i'll be out for your blood dgmacphee, YOUR BLOOD!11!1!

Don't worry Lay, you can come and huddle round my screen to watch it ;)

Well actually, I'll probably end up being out that night like last year, but we'll always have the log to remember it by ;)

Sorry to intervene here, but I have to back up EvenWolf. This whole Yahtzee thing has been going far too long, and I don't feel it's at all healthy to dwell on it after all this time.

Besides, shouldn't people be given a second chance? IIRC Yahtzee was last in the community about 2 years ago. People can change a lot over time, but the behaviour here is hardly likely to make him decide to return so that the newer members here can actually talk to him and judge for themselves.

Hehe I'm with Unilin on this one. I don't think I've ever had an AGS dream, but then I never remember my dreams so who knows.

Hmm, the download seems to be corrupt for me.

More importantly, let me just remind everyone that all Games page votes are logged, and if people abuse the system to vote 10 for their game repeatedly, I will in the first instance remove the "All games by rating" category, and as a last resort lock the rating of any such game to 1 / 10 and disable further voting for it.

I think we're all mature enough to handle it, right? :)

egghead: this isn't directed at you by the way, this is just in answer to nenomonkey. neno, rest assured I can find out whether someone has been doing that ;)

To those of you where it crashes on the speech selection screen - try deleting or renaming the mittens.avi file and then running the game - see if it works then.

If it does work after doing that, could you let me know your operating system and DirectX version.
#8299
Hopefully most games from the old forum will have been added to the Games page on the website to preserve them time immortal :)

For the video, there are two different issues:

1. doesn't play in Media Player or the game - this means you don't have the right codec installed.

2. plays fine in media player, but not the game - this is the fault I'm trying to look into, where I would like some information.

Do you have the latest DirectX version installed? What OS are you using? This should hopefully narrow down the problem.

Thanks for the replies so far.

Personally I'm using Win2k with DX 8.1 and it plays fine in the game.

Esseb: it is supposed to play when you load the game, before the scene with granny and the policeman.
