Bernard doesn't say anything. If you go into Maniac Mansion it quits DOTT. So when you win it just does credits and whatever and then returns to the MM title screen.

So save your game before using the computer. 'cause it sucks losing where you're up to.

Damn straight. Meat pies are awesome. Especially those mad 'gormet' ones, that are guaranteed 100% steak. With gravy. Steak and bacon is the best pie type.

Pie floaters suck. Whoever came up with that idea was a nutter. Or drunk. I suspect a mixture of the two.

mmm. Pies. True-blue bloody ocker Aussie tucker, mate.

heh

I love Eric too. He said he liked my comics.

However, let's not have a whole string of similarly titled posts again.

It's interesting how bandwidth wasting is funny when DG does it. ;)

Maybe he was upset about FT2 being cancelled too...

I like him as well. He said he was dedicated to making adventure games. :(

I didn't even have to do the quiz. Huzzah for being an oldbie. And a kind of perennial lurker.

Anyway, welcome to the forums. Enjoy. Make free games for me. ;)

It still surprises me that people have trouble getting hold of GF. Hell, you can still buy it in the shops here. Alongside CMI and BASS (yeah, I know that it's free, but you can pay for the CD if you want...)

I love the EA Classics range here in Aus.

Edit: Wow, DW sold for a fair amount. And here's me sitting with 2 copies of the CD. Time to look into that, methinks.

Everyone's forgetting Truckers! That TV series was great. The books were good too. But the series... mad little gnome puppets running around, fighting foxes, hiding in trucks...

I didn't get to watch the whole series because my mum didn't like it. But it was brilliant.

I've watched both the Discworld cartoon series as well. They're actually pretty good, if you're a hardcore fan and willing to get past the shoddy animation and so on.

TP was in negotiations for a long time to make a Discworld movie. He talks about it in the interviews before Sould Music and Wyrd Sisters (on the videos). It was actually a confirmed thing at that stage. I think it's probably cancelled now, though, because a whole bunch of fans had a bitch about how it wouldn't be the same.

Retards. Of course it won't be the same as what they imagine, but it can still be good.

You didn't die in MM if everyone was caught, all you had to do was get one guy to push the loose brick and then walk the other two out. This left two people free, which was enough to finish the game. Plus, you could get a key and just let people out at will.

Also, the cutscenes could be skipped in MM and Zak. It was one of the function keys. I can't remember which. Right clicking did it in the PC version.

Lucasarts' design philosophy outlines the differences very well:

"We believe that you buy games to be entertained, not to be whacked over the head every time you make a mistake. So we don't bring the game to a screeching halt when you poke your nose into a place you haven't visited before. We try to make it clear, however, when you are in a dangerous situation.
"We think you'd prefer to solve the game's mysteries by exploring and discovering, not by dying a thousand deaths. We also think you'd like to spend your time immersed in the story, not typing in synonyms until you stumble upon the computer's word for a certain object.
"Unlike conventional computer adventures, you won't find yourself accidentally stepping off a path, or dying because you've picked up a sharp object. There are a few dangerous situations which will bring the game to a premature end, but to avoid them takes just a little common sense, not excessive paranoia. Save the game when you think you may be entering a dangerous area, but don't assume that every wrong step will result in death. Usually you'll get another chance."

Sure, it's tilted towards Lucas' way being 'better' because it was written by them, but it gives all of the main points.

Thanks Eric.

Look... it has Mr. C's Approval! That makes it good!

New comic just up! Go there before it becomes mainstream and you're too embarrassed to be seen around it!

Komaks! And boobs!

Not really. Just comics. Not worthy of the almighty Rode spelling. And no boobs. Well, no exposed boobs. But they're good comics!

You could try looking through your ISPs information. A lot of them offer free web space, you just have to request that it be activated.

Remix: He was signing books here. I gave him my DW1 box to sign. He said 'Wow' and got out a silver pen and signed it.

I remembered some more...

"As I stride through the gates of hell carrying your head on a pike!"
"Stride?"
"Alright then, roll! Roll through the gates of hell! Must you take the fun out of everything?"
- Murray & Guybrush (yeah, I know I said murray in general)

"I'm going to kill you. And you will scream while you die. And then, you will be dead."
- 'The Proffesional', Stupid Invaders

It's not really a line, but I always thought that it was pretty funny in DW1 when Rincewind's voice actory just changed for a couple of lines, for no apparent reason.

"Oi! Who's been messing with this? It was an entrance when I came in!"
- Rincewind, DW1

"Good grief? What are you keeping in there? And why is it all sticky? Oh, wait. I'd rather not know."
- Rincewind

"Aha! A Shape! A mysterious Shape! A sinister Shape! A Shape fraught with.... with... shape-ness. It must be a plot element, otherwise there'd be a better label."
- Guess.

"A girl? What's a girl doing in here?"
"I'm not a girl!"
"eh? Then why are you wearing a dress?"
"It's a Wizard's robe!"
And so on. The whole conversation with Windle Poons was awesome.

And the great running joke with the beggar, how he'd progressively cut bits and pieces off himself every act.

DW1 rocks. Hard. Everyone should hunt down a copy and buy it. Download if you must. My copy was signed by TP himself :D Huzzah!

"Boy, it must suck working inside a giant vacuum cleaner!" - Stupid Invaders

"Hey! Whaddya know? I really am big boned!" - Skeleton pirate, MI3

Murray in general. And so on. Most games have a few stand out quotes.

My uni's better...  :P I wouldn't touch those button packs though. ick.

And if I feel I'm not quite ready when I leave uni, I amble on down here for a year or so, and it's just down the road.

This is probably the first time Canberra's been kind of cool for something.

CheapAlert: The first two were RPG, with the action scenes done platformery. The problem comes in where you draw the line. Is 'Zelda' an RPG or action-adventure? I'm willing to call it an 'action RPG' and stick GQ in there with it.

Gargoyle's Quest was on the Gameboy, GQ2 was on NES and Demon's Crest and Tales of Phantasia were SNES.

Commercial? Where's the love people? This used to be done for the thrill of keeping the flame burning, and suddenly we're all going commercial? Shame on you, greedy money loving fascists. ;)

But seriously, I don't think it's 'right' for me to sell a game made in AGS. When i get around to commercial prodcts, it's all going to be my work (or a team). At the very least I'd want to licence the engine or something.

Chrono Trigger was great. I never finished it though. I loved the logic put into the translation as well "We have an enemy called a 'Debugger', so logically there could be one called a 'Bugger'"

Tales of Phantasia was awesome. Get yourself a translated ROM and check it out. Very cool real-time battle system, very cool game. Except that the encounter rate is huge. Two steps and you get attacked again.

The Gargoyle's Quest series (if you call them RPG's) was really good too. Pretty average stories, but a lot of fun. Demon's Crest on the SNES was the best of the series.

General Discussion / Re:Anger

I used to get really angry on occassions. I have/had hyperactivity (or ADD, depends on what you want to call it) but I've got it pretty much under control. I tend to get loud if I'm excited though. But that's beside the point. Anyway, I used to kind of go into a 'blind rage' thing where I didn't really know what I was doing, I just attacked people. My brother helped a lot by just pinning me and letting it ride (I hated him for it at the time, but I'm pretty grateful now). Kind of like Hulk, except no strength or accuracy.

I'm pretty even tempered now. I haven't really been angry for a long time. And if I have a really crap day I just load up Time Crisis 2 and shoot people. Video games rock. Just getting in my car and driving helps too. Also praying, although I fully appreciate that that's not really going to work for most people. I used to just beat the crap out of random stuffed toys when I was in primary school because that was what worked for me then. Basically, just find a way to relax and release anger without affecting anyone else.

I work as a 'contractor'. I get $16 an hour whenever the company has anything going, which is usually every holidays. Which is sweet.

One day I will finish my software engineering degree. And then I will make games. Or be a 1337 Haxx0r. Both would be cool.
