They didn't use PCs 50 ago. I think you should make a game using punch-cards. PCs are so lazy.

Stop stealing my ideas! ...back to the drawing board, AGAIN.

Seriously though Danny Boy, you don't have to USE the images from a 3D program as your background but you CAN use them as inspiration/models for the work that you create. I'm sure you aspire to look like George Clooney when you're in your 50s... Will you? No. Can you use him as the inspiration for your distinguished, gentlemanly, aged self? Absolutely! But, you will still be uniquely yourself.

I could never find my way around google sketchup but I am somehow capable of using the 3D effects in photoshop decent enough to get basic perspective visuals accurate. Sketchup is a good free program, however, which when learned has the capability to simulate architecture, furniture people scaling and so forth so it might (AT LEAST) be worth downloading it and trying to draw some inspiration from it...

I'd hope SookieSock's already finished this sprite, there's no point bumping with useless comments, or should i say 'questionable' ones.  :=

=D

Well I often obsess over things (guess that's why I never get anything done) and I figured that since he hasn't turned in the game yet, maybe he's still working on it, and if so maybe he'd still be interested in variou view points...

Also, I didn't check the date of the thread... (Oops)

Although I love the way you draw Ben, you have to think will this sprite fit the rest of the background ???
I like it tho  :)

Good point, maybe we can get a shot of the background for reference.

I like what I see but it ultimately feels like a black blob with a dollop of peach... I think some more contrast could help define the individual components of the costume/creature.

FSi:
Never could get it to work, not sure why...

Dataflashabot:
Hilarious! Some of the silliest writing I've come across in a while. Not a really engaging game though... =D

SteveMcCrea:
Really cool project! I'm in awe that you were able to finish this on time!

Wyz:
Simple but effective! You were realistic and produced alot of components that made a pretty engaging game all in the span of an hour! Overall I feel like this is one of the most "polished" feeling games submitted.

Bulbapuck:
Witty, functional and a unique concept! I know there was only an hour but I just felt like there should have been more to it.

magma42:
I feel like you ha the same problem as me: time. Although you were quite a bit more finessed in your tie-off than I was.

ProgZmax:
I feel like it's tie between this game and Wyz. Very polished, simple but playable and very complete. There was some difficulty in clicking the chalk but it didn;t ruin my day.

All-in-all it is down to 3 people: Prog, Steve & Wyz. Steve had probably the most complex game but it almost feels like a bit of a gimmick that doesn't really offer any value. I feel like this could have been THE most polished game in the bunch, but instead it was 3D for the sake of being 3D and it made the Brush more difficult to click than ProgZ chalk. That said IT'S FREAKIN' 3D! Prog and Wyz did have similar games but between the two ProgZ looked better but Wyz had more elements and wasn't frustrating to me in the least...

Tough Call.  I gotta' vote Wyz at the end of the day, though.

I know... sorry! I had a much grander concept but I fell flat on time. I figured I would rather submit something rather than nothing though...

These last two actually were really Waldo Pictures, took me quite some while to find him.

Truly! ...and Chickys feels like tripping on acid while reading a comic...

I probably shouldn't even upload this... I realized it was 3:00 and so I just slapped an finish in there...

Here's the new concept behind it: You recently bought a painting at auction... turns out it's cursed. In your sleep it has eaten you! OH NO! Now, escape before you are digested and turned into a portrait...

Ten minutes to spare and I even had time to make music for it.
Paint.
Edit: Technically involves PAINT not paintING. Ah well. Also didn't have the stuff to make a video, sorry.

LOVED IT!

Before I go into the things that I illustrated let me through out some suggestions.

Details! What is the point of having an office if you're not going to do anything in it? He needs a lamp, a laptop, some folders on his desk, a pen and some paper, photos of a cheating wife spread out. A cell? He's probably spending more time here than he is at his shitty apartment (if he's got one) so give him a coffee machine, maybe a water cooler or a mini fridge. This is where he lives. This is his hovel. He's sweaty over tired starving and trying to crack a case, maybe he needs a couch to nap on for a bit. Does he smoke?

Think about the details.

Okay, so what I did in the photo: The first thing I did was darken it up a bit. I would recommend darkening it up even more but I didn't want to go over board. Next, the placement of the door and the window bugged me, so I quickly shopped them into positions that visually made sense to me. You might disagree i'm just trying to get you to think about options. Next, I added in a chair. Anytime someone says "Noir" and "Office" its a detectives office, really, isn't it? So, his clients are going to need someplace to sit. He gives them the comfy chair and he slides up his shitty IKEA office chair, hands them a cup of coffee while a dame dabs her eyes with a hankercheif. I can see it now...

The door looked a bit lonely so I referenced some pics from classic noir of the 40s-50s. Shadows were a HUGE part of black and white filming and even more so in film Noir. I added some silhouette panes for dramatic effect and to take up some space.

The next thing I did was erase parts of my "dark filter" to give some semblance of light existing. Lastly I darkened certain parts further: The air duct above (now with more ceiling shadow! Yay!,) the back of the filing cabinet and its shadow and also the back of the desk and trash bin. I also added a shadow on the desk from the chair just for gigs.

What is a Photoshop Phursday?

Photoshopping isn't drawing a completely new image -- It's editing images to create a new image, such as editing one image or combining several images. The contest usually lasts for a million years. Also, you don't have to specifically use Photoshop -- Paint Shop Pro, MSPaint, Piestation Genesis or any other programs can be used. Please make sure your image doesn't exceed the width of the screen or the screen will fall off.
