What an ice idea. Does this mean that all AGS'ers are now making ice games before they become cool?

Well, I had some nice ideas for this month but didn't get further than the drawing board. Best of luck to the rest of you!

Thanks for mentioning us! The schedule should automatically translate into your personal time zone, whichever that is. The event has asked me to join over voice chat to provide commentary, which I'm happy to do. However the event is also running several hours late which means I may not actually be available at the actual time, but I'll try my best. Either way enjoy the run!

Great plan!

Hmmm... this is really asking for an Indiana Rodent sequel

So far I'm running off a clone, not a fork. I haven't figured out how to use plugins yet. It would be easiest if you PM Edmundito and ask him to add you to the Discord channel, we're discussing it there. HTH!

No, I just love the music :)

I am interested in a new project later in the year (not right now, I've got a 4X strategy game to finish coding), but that project would not be related to Loom.

Great, thank you!

We've got a Discord group that's working on it. I'll have to test the current build this weekend.

The classic LucasArts adventure game LOOM uses music from Tchaikovsky. I would like to know which pieces they are, so that I can find an orchestral version on Youtube. Perhaps some more musically inclined AGS'ers can help me out with this?

The glassblower's guild (Crystalgard) plays the Dance of the Little Swans from Swan Lake, and the climatic scene with Chaos at the Loom plays the Finale from Swan Lake. But I've been unable to find the other songs, and I'm pretty sure it's not all Swan Lake either. In particular, what is the intro music, what's Herschel's leitmotif, and what is the song from the blacksmith guild? Thank you for your help!

Loom soundtrack.

I do think Spencer is important. I'm a pretty fast reader, so I tend to turn off voice acting (if any) and click through the dialogue at my reading speed. If a game doesn't allow this, I probably won't play it.

Quote from: Blondbraid on Sun 15/04/2018 00:02:33I'd also like to add the type of player goes "Bo-ring! When can I shoot something?" if the game goes five minutes without an explosion. (roll)
This guy should be called Michael, obviously.

Cat has a good point. Do put change management on your list of skills, and git on the list of tools you're experienced with.

Yes. It's fine to be a freelancer, but then be a freelancer with clear fees and not some unspecified amount at an unspecified later date.

Quote from: Snarky on Thu 05/04/2018 10:24:52Decide on a price per hour of work or for delivery of some well-defined piece of code/functionality, and insist on timely payment.
This bears repeating. There are unfortunately some shady people in indie development (run some google searches for any developer or publisher kicked off Steam to get an idea), and any employer in any branch that tries to postpone or make vague your actual payment should set off some MAJOR red flags.

you could always start a patreon page where people just pay you a monthly sum and get some simple rewards in return.
I'm curious if you know of programmers who've succesfully made this work.

So what you're looking for is an actual job with an actual salary, not freelance work for a percentage of profit-if-there-is-any. You should be clear in your searching about this difference. And yes, those jobs exist. Programming is an uncommon skill, so there is a market for that. Having written AGS for several years is an achievement that you should definitely put on your resume. The main catch with game-related jobs is that you're not going to be the game's director.

(for that matter, start by writing or updating your resume, if you haven't already. Be concise and use keywords of technologies you're familiar with; and have someone proofread)

I suggest going to job websites and looking for related terms. Go for established companies that have at least one published game under their belt. These may or may not exist in your area, so you need to consider how far you're willing to commute and/or move (frankly I have no idea where you live anyway). I know that at least London and Utrecht are hubs for game development, and I believe Stockholm also; and I'm sure there are numerous other hotspots that I'm unaware of. HTH!

Interesting concept! Any restrictions on art style? What about demake-quality art? Is a text adventure (IF) a valid approach here?

Your two examples (Syberia and Skyrim) aren't AGS games... does this imply we can do a pre/sequel of any non-AGS adventure game as well?

Planescape Torment.

Thank you for your support! And congrats to all the other winners as well! (looks like I've got some more playing to do!)

...aaaand I missed the chance to say something on stage because I was traveling and our trains have somewhat erratic internet connection. Perhaps next time...

Hitman Episode 2 is free on Steam for a few days. It's difficult to get via the app, though, at least for some areas of Europe. Best way to get it if the app isn't working for you is to go to https://steamdb.info/app/439890/ and click on the FREE button, then allow the Steam bootstrapper (some people say you need the Steam app open first, it only worked for me when I had it closed).

It appears to be difficult to get because this is DLC, i.e. you cannot get it unless you already own the main game.
