The game has now been translated into Hungarian, and v1.3 is available for download. There aren't many changes, but I took the opportunity to fix some bugs including the only "walking dead" situation reported (if you left the bottle in Midir's shop when he closes it down). Also, I've added a little bonus at the end if you have a near-perfect Honor and Wisdom score.

Since the game now supports translation, I would also be willing to consider a translation to e.g. German, French, or Spanish if somebody is interested in doing that. If you are, send me a PM with some of your prior work.

Hints & Tips / Ram Ghost

How do I keep my ghost from starving if I can't afford to upgrade my refrigerator? Also, how can the ghost be "not hungry" if her food meter is at -40 or so?

lol, I see. I thought her name was Angelique based on her database profile.

Yeah, she doesn't like being called that :)

Does Karst have anything on him that could come in handy?

Well, he's got the tools but I've no clue as to what to do with them.  I figured that Florent is the best guy to use them but I feel like I've pixel hunted every screen by now.
No, Karst should use the tools. Florent is more of a chips-and-soldering-iron kind of guy.

Spoiler
There's a compartment in the engine room that is stuck.

Because there are lot of entries this month, I think a week (tops) is a fair shout. But Radiant is right, so what I can do is start February as normal and let this topic simmer on the back burner while everybody finishes up.

That's a good idea. I didn't have time this month but will consider something for February.

+1. Why not call it a week?  ::)

Given that February is a pretty short month already, if the first week was moved to the January MAGS then there'd be not much left...

But governments are hardly ever accountable and almost always oppressive.  case in point:
I think we all agree that accountability is good. Just as companies are accountable in court so are elected governments accountable to the voters (who can choose not to re-elect them), at least in theory. Unfortunately in both cases, this doesn't always work out in practice.

Given the Trias Politica, to hold anybody accountable a country would need a strong legislative and judicial branch of its government, at least - the first to set standards for entities to be accountable to, and the second to carry it out. These branches need sufficient power to perform their duties, or the whole accountability breaks down.

That is definitely true for small companies, but it doesn't work so well for big ones with a multimillion dollar legal department.
I don't agree ...

While that's good to hear, it still comes down to two or three successes per year, and that's simply not a good track record.

As the Bake Sale is officially live, people can now play the full game from there. I wonder who'll be the first to find all the Blue Cups hidden in the game!

My only complaint is that the demo was a bit too short. Give us at least 2 levels to get the gist of what's going on, man! Just the one level feels like you're cutting off the player too soon.

Ah, the first one is free, then you're hooked :)

And yes, the Mario vibe is intentional. I even asked the composers to make a chiptune like that. Actually I've always wanted to write such a platformer, I just never got around to it before.

If a corporation screws you over you can easily refuse to future business with them, if they have been negligent or cause damage they can be sued, and if they commit fraud or other crimes there officers and employees can go to jail.

That is definitely true for small companies, but it doesn't work so well for big ones with a multimillion dollar legal department.

Snarky,  I think many people have this same point of view and I have always wondered how they can trust government on somethings but not others.  Unaccountable power is always a danger to liberty, IMHO.

I have always wondered how people that distrust the government (regardless of whether this distrust is justified) will still trust the kind of corporation that will stoop to any low as long as it makes a profit.

(of course, not all corporations are like that, but some of them are infamous for this)

The individual downloads are there to make it easier to patch / update games if that becomes necessary.

While that is a good point, it would be convenient to the end user to also add a "download all" button. This may also decrease server load: when there are fourteen links, people are tempted to download them all simultaneously.

Also, it would really help if the download page listed file sizes. Some of these are much bigger than the others.

Finally, I'm still seeing the slashdot effect big time. The website isn't loading for me, and when I ordered I got three download links: the first didn't open, the second did but when I downloaded the games I got empty zero-byte files. However, the third does work.

Anyway, downloading now, playing tonight :)

Is there a suggested amount at all? I have no idea what I am paying...

One dollar per game, or $14 total, sounds like a decent price.

You'll surely get more hours of entertainment out of it than if you spend the same money on cinema tickets.

People definitely need a forum where they can ask for hints and technical stuff. Although we could of course just send them to the Bigbluecup site.

It seems that a very few congressmen or sponsors/supporters of SOPA and PIPA are abandoning it... http://mashable.com/2012/01/18/pipa-sopa-abandon-bill/

Well, as Progz suggested, they may either be very disconnected (and thus unaware of the big internet strike) or in the pocket of the big media companies. So that's not really surprising.

I promise there is nothing going on here. No cheating no nothing.

Dude, in the last thread you stated you wouldn't work on MAGS games for awhile (which even Sane Co mentioned was a good idea). And now, less than two weeks later, you are working on a MAGS game, pretending nothing happened. Breaking your word, that's what's going on here.

I need to find a bigger  image macro.

(That's probably not the intent of most of the people driving the development - I think few politicians are actually malevolently set on destroying freedom - but that's what they're setting up the foundations for.)

I do think that most politicians have good intentions. But that's not enough. After all, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Just because they mean well doesn't mean they act well.

What I find hilarious is that the U.S. Government is funding projects to circumvent internet censorship in countries like China, while these bills propose creating the same kind of censorship.

Spread the word. More people need to be aware of this continual struggle by western governments against freedom of speech.

As there are 3 strong candidates,
I think a triumvirate would be a good idea in principle, but which three candidates are we talking about exactly?

Back to the engine discussion - what do folks feel would be more important from here on then,
In my opinion, portability (to Mac/Linux/Phones/whatever) should be a priority.

Just to throw a wild idea out there: it has been suggested in the past that AGS joins forces with SCUMMVM, which is a big open source engine which supports, among others, Sierra (AGI and SCI) and LucasArts games. They have a pretty big community with technical skills and support, and may be interested in helping us out. Would that be useful?
