Year of the Space Quest :)

Well, this was the second adventure game I've ever played (the first one being KQ3) so I'm looking forward to opening this, as soon as the download finishes.

(edit) aaaand game completed, 248 out of 250. Yay!

Well I entered a game in the database, and neglected to put in credits or a password. Who should I contact to edit this game again?

This game: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=1513

Thx!

Watch the a Let's Play video!

Indiana Rodent is the biggest platform game ever written for AGS, proving once again the versatility of the engine. Take the role of the Mouse With The Hat and go in search of the vaunted lost cheese. Traverse forests, deserts, and the halls of illusion; jump over hedgehogs, hitch a ride on a turtle, and evade vicious snakes - all for the reward of more cheese than you could ever eat, and what more could a mouse want?

The game is built on a tile engine, with eight-way scrolling and parallax background. It features four difficulty modes, nine expansive levels to explore, and various secrets and unlockables for you to find. And don't miss the boss monster, the vicious Moby Duck!

The game is part of the AGS Bake Sale, a collection of games to be sold shortly as a charity fundraiser. Since it is one year after their release, the games are now freely available. You can download the full version Indiana Rodent here.

Thanks to Black Squirrel, Corby, Ghost, Kramlack, and Snake for the art; and King Seamus, Lumpupu, MUFFINinc, and Peter Silk for the music.

Critics' Lounge / Re: Is this font alright?

I think the uppercase E, H, K, N would look better if the middle part was one pixel higher.

I agree the Q looks odd. Also, the upper A should have rounded corners at the top, I think. On the other hand, I'm not sure why the lower p does have a round corner. Finally, the lower z looks like it's cursive.

Heh, I'm getting all kinds of mixed reactions on the physics.

Note that having acceleration on the main character (as opposed to having him move at a constant speed when the key is pressed, and stop instantly when the key is released) is a deliberate design choice, because many famous platformers like Mario, Sonic, and Cave Story also do it that way. I do realize this increases the difficulty level, but that's why I've added easy mode.

Ponch reports he has no problems with the glide physics, and so do Mystic and Kconan. On the other hand, Frodo notes the difficulty in skidding when you stop (possibly gliding off the platform).

Some other points reported: the scrolling should be faster (because you can presently outrun it and go off-screen); and the platform behind the tree in level one should be in front of the tree instead (because it's hard to jump there otherwise). There was a suggestion for a weapon or other powerup; I don't think a weapon is very fitting here but I could go for e.g. a turbo or invincibility powerup.

More comments are welcome, of course.

How on earth is the installer 70 megabyte smaller than the zipfile?  :P

Yeah anyway, downloading now because this looks cool. I'll be back in this thread when I've had time to play the game. Congrats on completing a game of this magnitude!

A simple link in a visibile place should do a lot to increase awareness. A points system for voting is just overly complicated.

These sorts of spots where you can't see where to go next should really be avoided like the plague, I feel:
If you set difficulty level to 'easy', there'll be little arrows to show you. Perhaps I should add more of these.

Also, thanks for the feedback. It's hard to get jump physics in a way that most people like (fwiw, jumping higher when you've got a running start is not uncommon in platformers, but that doesn't necessarily mean people like it that way...)

Quote from: cat on Wed 21/12/2011 13:27:13Instead of a "shared universe" award I'd rather like to see the "Best documentation" award again. Some people put a lot of effort in it and I think this should be rewarded.
What, did that reward disappear? Why? I think it's a good one to keep around.

For that matter, we used to have a "best silly game" award that got dropped a few years ago, which would also be fitting for OSD games (but less so for RON/MMM).

I would like to have feedback on the gameplay. Please check out this one-level demo.

I was thinking, there have been a lot of RON, OSD, and MMM games lately; would it be interesting to add an award category for "best game in a shared universe" or something like that?

Have fun y'all!

Sure, give me a week or so and I'll have access to my trusty website again to put it up.

As promised, source for DDR.

Also, please change the website link for Dennis Dennis Revolution to this link here.

People who skip dialog annoy me, because all I can think is...THEN WHY ARE YOU PLAYING?
Probably because they're a fast reader.

It really breaks gameplay if you've finished reading a paragraph and are not allowed to go to the next paragraph for another five seconds.

What you could also do is have the character.Say ("...") to demonstrate a dramatic pause. This has the advantage of working exactly the same as other lines of dialogue.

Some random comments,

* I like the artwork.
* Please put in keyboard shortcuts. All LucasArts games had keyboard shortcuts, which made them much easier to control.
* Aren't Zak and Annie supposed to be dating after the first game?
* The right door in the second room makes a weird noise when you enter, and then you step outside again. Is this a shower?

Uploaded v1.1, which adds instructions and sound effects, and fixes the bug with notes "hanging" if you repeat a song.

Download here.

B: Audio speech only
Never do this, because it will cause anyone who dislikes the voices for whatever reason to simply stop playing your game entirely.

Time for my annual show-an-interest-in-attending-Mittens-but-probably-won't-be-able-to-go post.
Same here. Both suggested locations sound great, but they are so far away from my regular spots than I'm unlikely to have the time to get there. But have fun, of course!

I have a meta question... I note that the previous MAGS had only a few more voters than participants. So perhaps we should advertise the contest to get more people involved in playing the games and choosing the best one? More visibility would be nice.
