Ok, everybody hereby has until the 2nd October to finish up!

I suppose you meant september?

Cutting corners and dropping features as we speak.

Ditto. I'm having trouble getting all resources by the deadline, but giving it my best shot here.

I've used a one-click interface in several games (e.g. Warthogs, Quest for Yrolg), and it's worked out pretty well for me.

I haven't played mainstream games in a long while.

Adventure games for alot of their lifetime have been an anomaly, certainly not something that was fretted over in the classroom over who's played/seen/collected what.

...what? That is precisely what we talked about in the classroom. Back in the days of AGI, there weren't a whole lot of quality games for the PC, so King's Quest and Space Quest certainly stood out. Compared to a single-screen arcade game like Frogger or Space Invaders, it is pretty impressive to have some 60-odd rooms to explore and lots of dialog to read in a game that spans up to three disks. Heck, adventure games probably taught me English.

If I may be so bold to hijack this thread for a moment, would any of the many Girls of AGS be interested in voice acting? Because we're trying to do a voice pack for Quasar (the game in my sig), and get mostly male auditions. We need at least one more female voice to get the voice pack going. Thank you for your time :)
#1967
That doesn't strike me as difficult. Just pop up a non-blocking GUI, use an animated button to display the portrait, and set a timer to remove it after awhile.

To all those who made an audition for voice acting: sorry for not getting back to you so far, but we're still short a fifth voice. With only four voices, there's little point in getting the samples recorded. I'll keep an eye out for new recruits and will keep you posted.

The good news is, we did find a portrait artist. You'll see in the next beta!

Check your spam folder; that's where it ended up for me. :(

Of course I looked there before asking for a repost.

I can't seem to find that, could you re-send please?
#1971
Yes, this is possible with channel volumes, although it gives some performance issues on older computers.
#1972
Okay, so how does this work? I can login but otherwise there don't appear to be any options available.

I've received a report that One Room One Cheese (a v2.7 game for the last OROW contest) doesn't work under Windows 7 64-bit: to be precise, it runs but doesn't update the screen. This happens in both windowed and fullscreen mode.

...does this sound familiar to anyone? What can be done about it?

First, 640x480 is hi-res where adventure games are concerned. Second, 2.7 also works with 800x600 if you want. And third, I don't think 1024x768 has much added value here. Focus on gameplay, not pixel count.

Yes. And I've also completed jumpjoe (ages ago, and it's pretty awful imho, even for its age).

I beg to differ, but that game has been out wwaaaayyyyy too long ago. So, what are we playing next? Cave Story? :D
Iji, of course.

Anyway, I rather enjoyed V6 but I found it a bit too easy and the graphics too simple.

I'm going to echo the above posters and post my comments now.

Aeterna Duel
Er, yeah. I had it crash within the first 10 seconds, and basically discarded it at that point. This thread has convinced me to give it another go, though.

Apple Farm
Simple but effective; however, the music did make me turn off my speakers.

Barrier
I'm not going to repeat the above posters and say how well done this is (oh wait, I just did), but I'll just add that I found the innovative verbs very nice.

Dehaunt
I'm wondering if this is an actual tile engine, or just a room with walkable areas drawn on? If so, kudos for writing a tile engine. I didn't realize space bar was supposed to do anything, though, so I didn't see much of the gameplay.

Entrapped
Original drawing style and well-done puzzle design. Feels classic.

Office Shenanigans
Another classic. I liked the portraits, too. This is probably the truest adventure game of the bunch.

One Room One Cheese
Yeah, that was me :)  I'm surprised how many people found it very difficult; then again, it depends on what genres you're used to. I think I'll improve the air acceleration, that should help. Expect an expanded version somewhere in the near future.

ODR3
Funny but not my kind of funny.

Procrastinator
I'll write about this game tomorrow.

RapSqLud
Interesting concept but too easy to my taste. Again, I'm wondering if this is a true tile engine; if so, kudos.

Requiem
AGS needs more platformers, so it's good to see this one.

The Devil Got My Woman
Interesting premise and good dialogue.

And thanks to all who participated!

Well, I was thinking about expanding One Room One Cheese to include multiple levels, a few extra objects, and an endgame boss (i.e. the evil twin). The game was written for the last OROW, which means that all development took place in the month of august.

Would people be okay with submitting a game for both OROW and MAGS, or would this be considered cheesy?
#1979
Okay, we've received four auditions, and are still waiting for a fifth. Thanks to all who participated so far!

There are a fair number of games that I've stopped playing from the tedium of doing normal tasks which could have been made easier with more keyboard support.

I agree with this. It's amazing how much a few simple shortcut keys add to playability (and given how easy they are to implement, it's also amazing how many AGS games don't have any...)
