Yeah, Snarky is right, an object with the label "useless junk" is much better than no hotspot at all. And since Snakes of Avalon the Moose has to have a hotspot  ;D
Since King's Quest III the moose has to have a hotspot.

It depends heavily (1) on whether your interface has mouseover naming, (2) your art style, and (3) the room in question.

Generally I'd expect 2-5 hotspots in an empty-ish room, like a generic outdoors location, and 10-20 in a location with lots of little details, such as a laboratory.

For obtuse reason you still have to register on the site however,
Why are they doing this? This is a major barrier to spreading the game.

Aside from that, does this chapter actually have puzzles in it?

There have been several demos for Heroine's Quest, as shown here on archive.org. One of these was called demo2.zip, and was released approximately in January 2005.

Does anyone still have this demo?

I've put on many pounds during game dev. season.  :D

Does this lend extra weight to your statements? Har har.

Now, in theory, I could rip all the AGS games from the gamesdb and add them into the nexus database. Would this be unethical? or even illegal?
Let me give you a pragmatical answer:

By requiring the game authors to submit their own games, you (1) save yourself a lot of work, (2) avoid being flamed by people who think you're acting unethically or illegaly (regardless of whether you actually are), and (3) draw people in to register for your Nexus system.

Sounds like a net win.

M0ds was working on one too.
Yeah, what happened to that, anyway?

But you can't offer this method without actually having a user rating system. How else would it rate that you've liked that game?
Sure you can. It finds random games from the same genre category, or with the same cloud tags.

Just to throw some more ideas out there - the most effective rating system is probably the one used by rottentomatoes.com, which simply asks "did you like this movie yes/no", and prints that "4738 out of 12893 people like this movie". This is good because any other system is arbitrary: if the scale is, say, one to ten, people can and will disagree whether a seven means "good", "somewhat above average", or "mediocre"; and there are always people who'll simply vote "10" for all games they like, and "1" for all games they don't.

an entirely unrated database with possibly hundreds or thousands of games?

How would that possibly work for the end user?
Through searching on other criteria. Knowing that a game is of genre "science fiction", or has "640x480 VGA" graphics, or was made by "Blizzard" is much more helpful to me than knowing that "there exists at least one person who thinks this game is great".

Home of the Underdogs had a great feature that "if you like this game, you should also try these three:"

Tag clouds are rather easy to implement, and seem to work rather well on tigsource.

And finally, you could have users submit their Top Ten List of game recommendations, so that I could e.g. find a username that I know and see what ten games he thinks I should play.

It was called Alice In Underland, I played it a few days ago, it was stupid, but fun none the less. :P
Little Girl in Underland. Since it's a demake, it's probably funnier if you've played the original. Blub.

Since we're making long lists here, Vector Vendetta is also voiced, although there is not a whole lot of text in the game.

Warthogs and Quest For Yrolg both have voice acting:

The icon is 45pixels square...

That's a bit of an unusual size. Would 48 pixels be okay, as this makes it easier to convert standard 16x16 or 32x32 windows icons?

So anyone who is willing to let me manually add their game and username to nexus before the submission system is active say aye!

Unfortunately, bad news, Joel. Graphics drivers for Windows Vista and above do not allow resolutions lower than 800x600 anymore.

But then it should still work windowed, yes? Because the OP states that doesn't work for him either.

Sure we have. He looks like this:

A bit unusual for this thread, perhaps...

I'm looking for someone to proofread, edit, and generally improve the walkthrough for ATOTK. It was written a few years ago by Kuroshiro, a fan of the game, and I recently realized its layout could use some improvements and the style isn't always as clear as it should be.

I don't have a lot of experience as an editor but I'm sure some people here do. Any help would be appreciated!

Yes, because lengthy development worked so well for this game...
