You may be able to find Ultimerr XXII at the Ultima Dragons site if I recall correctly.
Hey wow, are those guys still around? I used to be in UDIC...

If so, I'd like to toss around ideas for an AGS Ultima-parody or style game.  I was such a fan of these games growing up.  Many of them had plenty of adventure game elements, as opposed to being strictly RPGs.

Yes, big fan here. I've completed most of them. Even Ultima 4 and 5 were remarkable for their age.

I think there's already an AGS Ultima parody, called Ultimuh. But then, with such a large series, I'm sure you can find plenty more material.

Well, it's been awhile, but here's an update for Infinite Monkeys.

First, there's now a German translation available, courtesy of Askarys.

And second, by popular request I've added more hints to the game to make it easier. Or perhaps I should say "less difficult".

Hey, I've been busy with a simple shooter concept as of late and have a question about the maximum number of objects one can use on a single screen. Well, I've run into this problem fairly quickly since every bullet I use on screen has to be it's own object.

I recommend rawdraws.

However, I am confused by the fact that every time I open About box, my internet browser starts and opens some strange page.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that. It was supposed to open my webpage, but it opens what used to be my webpage several years ago, a place that since got hit by cybersquatters. Don't worry about it, just don't click that button :)

QuoteAlso, I wonder, is this application supported anymore?
It could be, if there's any feature requests I'll consider them.

So, I wonder, did anyone tried doing something like this? What do you actually think of the concept itself?
Yeah, I used to do that too. It was quite fun. Eventually we switched to "wider" RPGs like D&D or Vampire.

Think of it in terms of a book. Someone has written a story but you feel it doesnt fit in with modern sensibilities or it was poorly written. Do you rewrite the story? the same narrative just with different language? No ofcourse not, that would be absurd.
Yes, that would be absurd :P

What are peoples thoughts?
That this government fires advisors for not giving the advice the government was hoping for, should tell you enough about their capabilities.

That would seem likely, yes.

General Discussion / Re: Speedfails!
Wed 28/10/2009 15:03:32
Regarding speedfails, I can think of several adventure games where you can die in the first room. For instance, how many people have played KQ1 and fell off the bridge within seconds? Or played SQ3 and picked up the sharp metal next to your starting place? Or played LL1 and walked across the road? Come on, don't be shy :)

Suddenly struck by a guess: Loom?
Correct.

Ok, how about this one. "I won't not promise to avoid refraining from harming you."

I remember Future Wars having a great atmospheric beginning, but then turning into a boring, completely linear interactive movie. And it had dead ends.

I much prefer Another World, even if it isn't exactly an adventure game.

The funny thing is that Another World is also completely linear, and has dead ends... :)

Frankly I find it hard to compare the two. Future Wars was very innovative for its time, being (to my knowledge) one of the first VGA adventure games, one of the first games with an interface like that, and has excellent sound. It admittedly does not have much of a story, but then neither do most other adventures of those days; and it does not have more dead ends than the average Sierra game. A place where FW falls flat is its lack of humor and lack of lengthy descriptions for whatever actions you're trying.

Another World is also very innovative, being (to my knowledge) the first successful vector-graphic game on the PC. It has numerous diverse environments, some of which very beautiful, and manages to pull off an immersive atmosphere without displaying a single word of text anywhere. And it's challenging; I don't like games that are too easy, although this is a matter of taste of course.

Hey, I remember that. That was some of the best ever music for the PC Speaker, too!

It looks nice, but it runs very slowly on my Ubuntu machine, to the point where it takes 10 seconds for a fadeout to complete. Are my system specs too low or am I doing something wrong here?

Hm, I'm afraid that didn't help; it starts complaining about other libraries, too. I suppose the library has an internal version number that mismatches?

I just checked the game database looking for a game to play and i felt sad when i saw that a little percentage of games have translations.

I'm sure it's improving. In the past few month, about half a dozen translations were done for Yrolg and Warthogs, with some more pending.

Whether your game is commercial or not is legally irrelevant. What matters is whether the music has a license that allows you to use it, which by default it does not. The easiest thing is to find music that is in the public domain and use that; the second easiest thing is to ask the author.

Note that I said "legally". Ethically is up to yourself, and practically it's quite possible that nobody will notice.

;D This game looks really cool but glitches on STARTUP MAJOR on my Vista Machine?
I'd suggest you visit the technical forum on this site; many people appear to have no problems running AGS 2.X games on Vista.
