That is a... novel... definition of the word Steampunk.

I've had something similar. If I press the control key and release it, then the escape key won't function until I press another key. Doesn't bother me much, but it's a bit strange.

Advanced Technical Forum / Linux setup

I'm trying to run some AGS games with the Linux runtime for AGS 2.5.

Actually the ags runtime works with no problems, but I can't start the ags-setup executable; it gives the error "setup: error while loading shared libraries: libxml.so.1".

I've already done "apt-get libxml2" and "apt-get libxml2-dev" but that didn't help; if anyone could point out what I'm missing that'd be much appreciated.

I suppose what would work is a random puzzle generator. You take a number of rooms, and in room <X>, you have a random character <Y> walk around that tells you he needs an item <Z>. Procedural generation can get you far with this.

Problem is, I see no technical issues here, but I doubt a randomly generated adventure game would actually be fun, so that would have to come mainly from the interaction with the other users. (then again, I also have trouble envisioning why a MUD would be fun, and people play those anyway).

Hm...

that creepy white-eyes guy from 1213...

Would this be a place to put the old P3N1S award for Worst or Silliest Game?

And if so, perhaps it should be for self-nominees only. I'm quite sure that if we had a Silly Game Of The Year award that enough people would join.

You should blame your deeds on Jack Chick :P

A possible solution is to have the items animate, glow subtly, or sparkle a bit. I'm sure you could find an excuse in HHGTG as to why a toothbrush would glow. This is probably the easiest way to attract a player's attention to it.

For instance, adventure-eu.com stopped updating for a while, then disappeared off the air, and now has been taken over by cybersquatters.

Never did figure it out.

As they say in the first game, only LeChuck knows... why don't you ask him!

I will say a tale of two kingdoms was brillant and that definatly takes me back however it seems like alot of game creators are on hiatous or have moved on.
Thanks, but I've never been on a hiatous, really. I just don't post all that much.

Update: there's now a French translation, for the international players out there, thanks to Shai-la. Some other translations are in the works.

In that case, I'll patent the letter 'e'. Good luck pat'nting anything without using my pat'nt l'tt'r.

Well if that's the case...I just patented "software that allows you to create your own adventure game"
Infocom wants a word with you :P

Software copyrights are hilarious, you can patent something as vague as "a system for communicating between clients with a graphical interface" and then sue every Tom, Dick and Harry under the sun.

And not just software, either...

Given the way Bittorrent works, it would probably be best to keep older torrents active, and have the monthly torrent consist only of the new games for that month.

I'm not sure if I can make such a game this month, though,
Probably not, actually.

Nice. I am soooo short on free time now :P

Since Warthogs is in there, would you mind replacing it with a more recent version? It's here: http://crystalshard.net/index.php?g=11
