General Discussion / Re: victims of recession

Nope. My boss tells me that we're so much better than the competition that they are all suffering from recession, and we're not. Hm, where is that grain of salt again? :)

Has anyone had what they would consider a success in selling them recently?  If only about twenty people buy a $10 game, it's hardly worth the effort in the first place.

If you mean adventure games, then yes: the new Sam & Max series appears to be doing rather well.

If you mean indie adventure games, then I believe the answer is no. There is Dave Gilbert, of course, but IIRC he has mentioned that it just barely pays the bills for him; and that's just one series of games, I don't think anybody has been able to match or top that. And of course there's Himalaya, but from the almost complete lack of any news of their commercial efforts in the past year and a half, I would infer that it wasn't as economically successful as they would have hoped.

I think it's due to the location of some of the backgrounds, apparently they're in the wrong places in relation to each other.

Hm, okay. I don't recall which particular map or other game that was based upon. Well, I'd be happy to change that if you want me to.

Wow, what a great story! Congrats, Erin!

I feel most beta testers just want to play a game before it's released.

That's true. That's also the difference between a good tester and a poor one.

A poor tester will want to play your game and ask for your help for pretty much every puzzle. A good tester will find a dozen bugs in the first room.

I prefer to let all rooms be visited multiple times, which bypasses the problem.

However, a neat way of solving it is by moving the item to another room. It might fall off a ledge, or float down a river, or whatever, and end up some place else once the player can no longer enter the room.

Out of curiosity - what events in Root Of All Evil are considered to contradict canon? Because I don't think it contains any major events, really. It definitely doesn't belong on the main "must play" list, but I'm surprised to learn it's on the list of controversies along with Davy Jones C'est Mort and the Commander Keen game :P

Hm, I have a mostly-finished platform gaming engine that could probably handle Titus the Fox. The physics are pretty easy in AGS (It's Just Math [tm]) except that it's going to be tricky to exactly duplicate what the Fox engine is doing.

Interesting tidbit: Titus The Fox is actually an improved version of an earlier platformer called Moktar (a la recherche du zoubida), if by "improved" you mean "redoing the main character and swapping a few levels around" :)

I'd like to see an AGS version of The Incredible Machine (or its many sequels) and also of the Seventh Guest or the Eleventh Hour (in which cases the remake would quite possibly be smaller than the original).

I'm going to vote for new books, women, and candy. Yay!

I'd like to have made a Snail Quest remake (that counts as a classic too, right? :P ) but this month that's really not going to happen unless I put a coffee transfusion in my bloodstream.

Wait, what happened to HOTU, then?

What you call Independance Day, we call Good Riddance Day. We celebrate it each year by burning American flags on the 4th July ... I'm sure that'll go down well if we're in Florida at the time :D

Really? I thought you guys had revoked the independence some eight years ago?

They're pretty standard colors, though. If you count in binary, where 1 = blue, 10 = green, 100 = red and 1000 = bright, that's exactly what you'll get.

Well, if the way the AGS awards go bothers people, I can always set up BHT awards :D
