Well, I made a rather lengthy post on the Au Naturel thread a few hours ago that I hope the local administration would be willing to respond to. I suppose I'll give them some more time for that; but unless I get a reasonable response on that thread I'm strongly inclined to follow suit and have my game removed as well.

Odd that so many people here frown upon using non-original resources.
Or is it that AND selling the product too.

The issue (at least to me) isn't that they're using non-original resources, but that they're claiming that they are original. There is a lot to be said for fair use, parody and so forth in several circumstances, but all of it starts with being honest about it.

Also, selling other people's stuff for money is a big no-no.

I believe I found a minor bug: the "game length" pulldown is no longer available when submitting or editing a game entry.

Heh. No, I had never heard of that. I do note it's still on the publisher's site, listed as for sale...

You know the irony of all this?

The RON administration is afraid of copyright issues (which are, I'm afraid, mostly based upon hearsay rather than actual law). And yet, the entire RON site is hosted on The Underdogs, which is a site that hosts "abandonware" games to be downloaded for free. And as anybody remotely versed in law will tell you, "abandonware" is in almost all cases in violation of copyright.

Well done, everybody who worked on this.

So is this a Ghost Pirate thread? Or a Zombie Pirate thread?

I concur with the above sentiments that it's ridiculous to ban adventure games from the RON site on grounds of nudity. What's next, Jack Thompson suing AGS for depravity?

Don't give the guy the damn money unless it really belongs to him.

Well, it doesn't, but somebody else decided to pay him out of his own pocket, just to shut him up.

Other than that, he's no longer welcome in the cafe where this took place, and I informed the police. I suppose that's the end of the story, then.

Evenwolf brings up a very valid point:  in a perfect world (or at least one in which governments kept their fingers out of the economic pie as much as possible) free markets would work precisely as you suggest,

Not necessarily, given that the internet was initially set up by universities and the army.

However, do note that this applies to American ISPs, and that other countries may well keep the entire 'net open. In which case, well, sucks to be you.

Is it just me or does anyone else feel like kicking off when you're trying to focus all your concentration on the game you're designing and someone interupts with pathetic things like asking for you to do the lawn or asking you to go to the shop.
The solution is to not live with your parents.

I'd bet if you focussed on characters, story, and puzzles, you could make a full-length game with 25 - 30 backgrounds. Hell, King's Quest I & II only had 30-something rooms, I think.
Not really. The KQ1 overworld is 48 screens, the KQ2 overworld is 49 screens excluding the ocean. And neither of that is counting all the indoors, underground, and cloudscape scenes. So in terms of Sierra classics, you're looking at 60-90 rooms each. The Quest for Glory games have substantially more than that, but they're cheating a bit by having a lot of rooms be copy/paste jobs of one another.

On the other hand, KQ6 has a lot less rooms, and compensates by having a lot of things happen in each room. It depends on what you want with the game. If you want to give the idea of an expansive countryside, you'll need to put in a lot of rooms for that.

Well 9 out of 10 LA fangames get C&D order so it's a safe assumtion that they're hardasses, they don't seem to pay attention to Zak McKrakken though?

They only seem to care about their "active" enterprises, i.e. Indiana Jones, Star Wars and, for some reason, Monkey Island. Not Zak, Loom and Maniac.

It's nice that people keep up the legacy, but I would have preferred if it used graphics similar to the PC Dizzy games.

So....

I'm in charge of the finances of a small club. Now there's this guy whom the club owes money. The problem is that the club owes him about $50, whereas he claims that he should receive $100. He has no tickets or anything to back up his claim, and research proves that he's simply dead wrong (e.g. a declaration for travel expenses can be double-checked on the internet based on distance traveled and the price of gasoline).

Now this guy has an intimidating personality, cannot be reasoned with, and has threatened to beat me up unless I pay immediately.

I would like to hear some opinions on how to deal with this.

There are 6 spaces left, so I don't see why not.

Well, if he has a dual name, doesn't he require two places? :)
