Amazing.

Me and some friends are presently working on a game that will hopefully be released this month, and fits the theme perfectly.

Except that we already started it earlier, so it doesn't qualify for MAGS. Nevertheless, is this synchronicity or what?

Yeah, part of the work that the Review Committee are doing is marking games with broken download links, and they will then be excluded from the search results until the link is fixed.

Regarding the fixing of links - would the review committee (or some other part of the website organisation) be willing to upload the missing games to bicycle-for-slugs or americangirlscouts (or megaupload, if they're very large), and fix the links in the games.php section? This would help restoring the games for which the authors are no longer around.

So you force a particular width rather than letting 'Say' decide its own?
Yes.

I wonder if that can be done with "Say"?
As far as I know, no. You can, however, use RawPrint, or DisplaySpeechAt (SayAt).

I believe it is, except if the text needs to be wrapped for the screen edge.

ATOTK uses gettextheight for its customized text box, and that works out.

Rating Last Crusade above Raiders? Not that isn't a fine film, but I wouldn't. It lacks the punch of Raiders.

Really? As I remember Raiders, there's simply a macguffin that keeps changing hands. Over and over and over again. Indy has it. The nazis steal it. Indy steals it back. Then the nazis steal it again. Indy uses it to obtain a second macguffin. Surprise, the nazis steal that too. And then guess what happens...

So time is up and May 25th is near: Please post your games within the next 30 hours (see timestamp of this post) then the voting will begin - if there are any entries here then... :)

So, does that mean the contest is over? Or is there some kind of... gasp... conspiracy preventing this thread from wrapping up?

Mutt:

Meaning #1: an inferior dog or one of mixed breed

Yeah, you're the second one to have missed the point of what I wrote. Congrats.

Well, Indiana was named after a dog.... "Mutt" must be.... a cat of some king?   ;)

Yeah, I got that joke, but found it a bit too far-fetched and really not funny. My point is, can you imagine film posters all across down reading "Mutt Williams and the Shrine of Disaster"? Me neither :P

Spoiler

I thought Ray Winstone's character was completely pointless and his constant double-crossing became predictable and boring.

Seconded. Besides, have those flashing devices he has even been invented yet?

Spoiler

The 'Knowledge is treasure' thing was a nice touch, though.

Meh. I found it totally cliche, particularly because they had to State It Out Loud.

The fridge said "Lead Lined" on it.  Lining your bomb shelter with lead is allegedly the only way to survive a nuclear blast (from within the blast radius).

Yeah, that protects you from radiation. Not from heat, concussion, shockwaves, or indeed a nasty bout of cancer once you step out of it. That scene was just plain silly.

Also, returning to the warehouse where they store the Arc RUINS the ending of Raiders for future generations.     At the end of Raiders you say "Oh my God, they're just going to store this awesome artifact and no one even realizes its there."

Hm, interesting point. Am I the only one who thought that Indy would

find the Ark in there and use it to dispatch the commies?

Having just seen the film this week, I agree with most of what I've read above. It was a lot of fun to watch, but the McGuffin was just ridiculous.

Spoiler
Also, surviving a nuclear blast by hiding in a fridge?  ::) The film would have been better without that scene.

Anyway, in my opinion it's definitely worth visiting a theater for, but really not as good as the classics. I would not, personally, look forward to another sequel, particularly not one starring Shia. What kind of name is Mutt anyway? :P

I'm not really surprised by that, considering their page hadn't updated for a long time. Still, I believe they were talented people, and I wonder if they're going to do something else?

Wait, I thought jet, Helm, Adam & Becky were coming? No? Did I miss something?

All of the above will work, as will changing the character's view or loop to something containing blank sprites.

Using transparency means the character can still be clicked on; the other options won't. Well, unless you have pixel-perfect turned off, but it's on by default.
#2595
Note that the above implies that you can cause a text to be displayed longer, by padding it with spaces.

How about this:

Never heard of it.

I tend to use megaupload myself, simply because it works. There's at least a dozen other similar free file hosting services.

If your game is only a few megabytes you could probably host it on a free webhost like geocities, without running out of their bandwidth limit.

What I do is create a series of sections, each of which is either for one character, one event, or one location. I start with just the name (which can be a stand-in name, even). Then under that, I write down things related to that location or character. With question marks if I'm not sure yet.
#2599
It depends. When done in moderation, especially as a passage between useful rooms, it adds a feeling of space to the game. For instance, compare King's Quest I (a game with plenty of empty rooms in between the interesting spots) to King's Quest VI (a game where every single room is crammed with half a dozen different objects and puzzles and characters). I'm not saying either is good or bad, it's just the atmosphere you want to set.

When used as dead ends, they quickly become boring, then possibly annoying. That is why, for instance, the castle in Indiana Jones Last Crusade, and the circles of atlantis in Fate of Atlantis, are implemented as a scrolling map, rather than a series of rooms.

Okay, looking over your code...

First, you should know that functions can return a value. So, an improvement would be

Code: ags

function sayStuff(int who, int when, String what)
{ if((who ==you)&&(when ==now)) { character[who].say(what); return true; }
 ...
  return false;
}

Second, I would suggest putting the relevant data in a struct array at initialization, and looking from there.

Code: ags

struct mydialog {
  int who, when;
  String what;
}

Both optimizations may make your code run smoother, and more importantly, avoid the problem. This is not guaranteed, but probably worth a try.
