Messages - Radiant

The present Pick of the Month does not display properly. The description text uses only the left column (above the screenshot) rather than both. Also, the screenshot link is broken.

Re interaction editor - there used to be one, Radiant, but it was scrapped in this latest beta. Interesting that people are starting to miss it...
It is? Oh, that's nice. No, I hadn't missed it yet, I've never used it period (I don't even use the per-hotspot functions...)  :)

I mean, don't stop enabling Script, but, could there be, perhaps a digital GUI switch in the program that allows the Game Designer to set a certain mode for easy designing?
There is one, it's called the interaction editor.

For example: Could you perhaps, design AGS to help the user make a regular Adventure Game with RPG battle elements? Just for people like me who are slow. Heh.
RPG battle elements are surprisingly non-trivial. One could make a module for that, but it's unlikely to be what everyone wants...

What file system are the various hard drives using?

It's possible that your old hard drive uses FAT32, and while Windows XP can read that, it defaults to NTFS, and may not have its FAT module installed.

I've already done a full defragging and virus scan, and the firewall isn't blocking this site;
Defragging is irrelevant to your situation. Since the virus scan didn't turn up anything, did you try Ad-Aware to check for browser hijacks?

The more drastical approach would be to re-install firefox, and/or re-install windows. Windows can be rather volatile, after all.

And I need to bring Dr. Die Vie Ess something. Anyway, what's my next move?

Look up the thing he's asking for on google.

Spoiler

Then take a picture of it.

I've been using Firefox for years now and this website works perfectly fine with it.

There has, however, been some confusion between "www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk" and "www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk", but that is unrelated to browsers.

Wow, an Asimov game would be cool. But yes, a lot of work as well. And it's hard to stay focused on a big project...

Although there are many approaches, I think you should start with a plot outline, that tells where the game starts and ends, and what to do in between. This should include a map and short descriptions of the locations and characters, as well as the idea of most of the puzzles (you can always add more puzzles later if you get ideas in mid-progress).

From there, take whatever you like best. Good at backgrounds? Start with those. Good with sprites? Do that instead. Complete at least one fully, and then go to another, or another area if you prefer. Small chunks are best.

If you have at least one room complete, you can do some preliminary scripting. Draw in hot spots and walkable areas, and add some responses for clicking on those hot spots. If (like me) you're bad at art, use MS Paint to scribble in all the rooms and start with the scripting.

If you haven't used AGS before, I'd suggest using the standard Sierra'esque GUI that comes with it, and drawing over the graphics.

Once you have something to show, people on this forum can be found to help you with whatever you're stuck at.

The funny thing is that america the most environmentally friendly country. Every other country fail to do anything to help the earth. If we had someone to blame, Id say blame Russia, Germany, Britain, China, Australia.
Please do get your facts straight, because you have it almost precisely backwards. For instance, there are environmental plans like the global Kyoto Protocol, and America, under pressure of its oil industry, is notable for refusing to sign that.

Right, that explains it.

And since this is my junk mail address and I use it for forum registrations, there never will be anyone in my contact list, so I will be treated like an idiot, forever, by the entire system. Thank you bill gates.

I didn't use a thread. I decided to send PMs because you get an email I think, when you receive a PM, so I though maybe that work better.
Well, I'm not sure whom you sent those PMs to, but I don't recall receiving any. Then again I only have ten published titles to my name, so I probably have little to offer you  ;D

All it takes is your name and email address, and you'll get quick instructions on how to rid yourself of junk mail.

And let me guess, they will be using this e-mail address to send junk e-mail to?

Besides, I don't get junk mail, period. My country has laws against that.

It depends on how many hours per day you expect to be playing these games.

The Gif/LZW patent has expired in 2003.

The MP3 algorithm is used under license, which is why you shouldn't use it in commercial AGS games, as indicated in the manual.

Game description lacks screenshots :)
Yep. And it needs some borders, and the black background is hideous, and right-justifying text makes it hard to read.

Doesn't it work like Internet Explorer, where a bar will appear warning you about the pictures, and you can click on it to show the pics?
Well, that's why I don't use IE either. I don't want such bars that treat me like an idiot. I have a master's degree in computer science, for crying out loud.

On another note, of the games listed only a couple authors have gotten back to me about distributing the games being OKAY, so that list could always change...

I've never seen the thread where you asked people whether it was OK. I believe most AGS games are freeware, and many authors would be happy to allow this.

General Discussion / hotmail annoyances
Thu 27/09/2007 08:08:45
I don't usually use hotmail except as a spam account and for such things as forum registrations and so forth... however, recently it's become too annoying even to use for that. Whenever there's a picture in a message, it doesn't get shown, instead I get a patronizing warning about how pictures may be hazardous to my health. Whenever I click a link in a mail, it doesn't pass through, instead I get a warning how clicking links may blow up my computer.

THIS IS ANNOYING! Is there any way to turn such nonsense off? Because I can't seem to find it among the twenty pages of options and settings.

If people really want drugs I'd recommend chocolate. You'd be surprised how much it helps...
