Oh yeah! In Quest for Glory III you can use the water pipe in the healer's house, and the colors go wild. If you do it too often, you'll turn into a junkie and lose.

In Ultima VI, there's the "silver snake venom" drug, too.

Police Quest I is about drug trafficking. Of course, since you're the cop, you get to put a stop to it. PQ3 touches upon the same theme, briefly.

Plenty of games involve getting very, very drunk. E.g. Monkey Island 2, any number of "Drunken Fighter" games, and so forth.

In NetHack, you can eat shrooms which cause you to hallucinate.

Actually I like the absurdistic ending of The Holy Grail a lot. It's very Python.

No tension between the teams as far as I know, herby.

Ha HAAH! Sabers at dawn! May the best game win, and be sure to put the video on Youtube!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirate_Party

It's an actual political party in Sweden. And no, it's not the worst name for a party either :)

Goal: Is to make most advanced and greatest game WITHOUT using ANY
script
What would be the point of that? If you count the interaction editor, you can basically make whatever you like but you're just restricting people to a somewhat awkward method. If you don't allow the IE either, you can't feasibly make a game, just a bunch of graphics and sounds.

Since the deadline is Mittens 2007, mightn't it make sense to consider all games released after Mittens 2006?
To be fair, all those games were already eligible for the latest AGS awards.

Love that film. I watched it once with a very christian friend and even she found it funny. If you think about it, it doesn't really make fun of christianity; it makes fun of a lot of weird human habits, such as blindly following people who don't even want to be followed. If it's demeaning, it's not demeaning to the devout, but to the stupid.

Brian: You are all individuals.
Crowd: YES! WE ARE ALL INDIVIDUALS!
Brian: You are all different!
Crowd: YES! WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT!
Person: I'm not.

...and after breaking into the cottage, Goldilocks spotted a large glass of beer standing in the fridge. Taking it out, she took a sip. Brrrr! This beer was much too cold! Then, looking around, she spied a somewhat smaller glass of beer standing near the stove. She couldn't resist tasting this one as well. Ouch! This beer was much too hot! Finally she found a small glass of beer standing in the middle of the table; she wondered why she hadn't seen this one first...

just curious. why the use of win2k instead of xp?
Because I own 2K and don't feel like paying for XP. Also, the latter is a performance hit.

Yeah, I use Windows 2000 and I've never had any problems. Most likely it's graphics drivers or your DirectX version
It's quite possible that it's a DirectX problem. I'll look into that. Strangely enough some versions of AGS consistently do work and others consistently don't.

Edit:

I found that the problems I was experiencing can be fixed by using setup to "reduce 32-bit graphics to 16-bit". Perhaps a 32-bit game doesn't run properly in windowed mode on a 16-bit desktop?

I should point out that both Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood are in fact Grimm fairy tales. Can I assume that tales by e.g. Andersen, or Aesop, or from Russian folklore are likewise acceptable? What about Greek mythology?

QuoteThink of three beers cottage in Simon the Sorcerer 2.
Is this a typo or should I really play that game to find out?

People will miss that the RMB does stuff :)

I like a verb coin because they're neat. I can see the added flexibility that a GUI with more options would provide,
Interesting. I find those really annoying, because you have to click, move, click again in order to do anything. Or worse, click - drag - release.

Somebody will likely point out that you have to do the same in LucasArts GUIs, but that's not actually true because they have keyboard support. I never click on the bottom panel except sometimes to access inventory, which is why I don't see the need for it to cover 1/3rd of my screen.
#3574
Well, it works, but if you do one you really really need keyboard support.

Anyway. Personally I don't really like the fact that the LucasArts GUI takes up one-third of the screen. So I'd prefer a customized Sierraesque one. But this is really a matter of taste. I found that for short games you can easily use a single cursor mode; my experiment with a 30-verb GUI was fun but put off several players.
#3575
Not really a problem, that's what they're there for. RON especially is made for sharing resources and the universe. Of course you should give credit where due.

Note that there are quite a lot of free graphic resources on the internet. Most of them aren't particularly suitable for an adventure game, but you may be able to find something useful.

General Discussion / Re: Latin translators?
Mon 30/04/2007 11:03:53
I think the latter sounds better. The former is more a literal word-for-word translation from English, which is technically correct but does not account for the Latin habit of conciseness, word order shifts, and using implicit verbs.

What is this for, anyway? Are you designing a family crest?

Oh come on Helm, wouldn't you want to meet Roberta to tell her what you did last Mittens? :)
#3578
Oh. Yes. It's all windowed mode, full screen doesn't work period.

I don't have SP4 either (SP0 to be exact). Perhaps I should locate a WXP somewhere.

I don't speak Spanish, but wouldn't the imperative clause simply work? IF works perfectly fine in Dutch, and I don't really see a reason why it wouldn't work in other languages.

Say, what is the status on FOY, anyway? That demo was fun.
