To my best knowledge the project is dead.

Of course I hope I'm wrong about this.

You should be able to find IP Scumm here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/amberfisharts

It's not difficult, it's just a lot of work. Using AGI studio you should be able to decompile SQ1/2 and PQ1, edit the source code to do whatever you want (i.e. change texts) and recompile it. If memory serves me correctly there was an SQ2 parody being made this way.

I haven't tried SCI studio but it probably works likewise.

DirectX 9 causes problems on my system. I have the feeling that the solution to all this will turn into reinstalling windows...

Looks great, but I have to ask - is the last screenie ripped from Maniac Mansion?
Yes. A collage of the hallway and the library.

I must say that I disagree with Rui, and that a huge gameworld and free travel back and forth is an important part of the flavor and charm of Zack. As I recall all mazes in that game were quite easily mappable anyway. I don't even recall any glaring dead ends in Zack (other than running out of money).

I look forward to seeing this game.

It does not appear to exist on my computer (according to google, it's a file called slayerui.dll, which I don't have)

I found this out at the recent MAGS contest. For some reason, games built with (what I assume is) the latest version of AGS don't work on my computer. I have no problem running older games, nor making games.

Setup mode works fine. When I start the game normally, I get a window border with no content in it (not even black, it just doesn't get drawn). If I drag the window (or move something else over it and put it away) it does get drawn, including a mouse cursor at some spot, but it doesn't seem to get a screen update ever. The game does react normally to ALT-X.

This is pretty weird. Any suggestions would be welcome. This is Windows 2000 with DirectX 8, a 1 GHz CPU and 128 Mb RAM.

Games that don't work include Cabbage Quest, Me Go Store, and Cedric and the Revolution. Games that do work include Reactor 09.

Wasn't there another HP adventure game, bases on the first one? I hate Harry Potter, but I was just curious.
No, but there was a Larry Lotter game called Warthogs. Click my sig.

My ideal game is also in my sig. Aside from that, I've wanted to do a Quest for Glory kind of game but that's something I'll likely never get around to.

Oh yeah, and there's a eurocoin in Future Wars.

DROD: the City Beneath. Lovely game, poor ending.

If you want a suggestion -

Any project will turn out to cost at least five times as much time as you expect. So start with something small. Make an adventure game with four rooms and reserve the rest for the sequel. It's easier that way.

Assuming everything's plugged in properly, I would say that either you have a faulty memory bank, or your hard drive is defective. To check for the former, you need to go to the BIOS and make sure the computer doesn't do the "speedy" POST (power on self test) but does the entire mem test.

Anyway, hard drive space is cheap. Buy a new one, plug it in to the side and see if that helps.

The subject of a "quality game" is a sticky one, at least in terms of the early games.
If that was a response to me - I meant the "biggest" game defining a playable character, not the first one. What I meant by "essential" is basically the five? eight? RON games that a new person should play to get a good feel of the universe.

Ah well, with all this thread stuff, I think I'll put together a RON game after ATOTK is complete. Shouldn't be that much work. I've even got an idea for one.
#3594
Hm, it doesn't work on my computer. That's also rather unexpected.
#3595
Ah, I just found the catch. It runs in Java. How's that for a performance hit?
#3596
Okay.

First off, I'd like the character list split into one-off characters and recurring characters. Because if I want to make a RON game, I want to forget about the former and add cameos for the latter. Ditto for locations.

Second, I'd go for a split into three categories, and these should really be defined by RON die-hards rather than by voting among whomever comes along.
(1) essential. The (few) games that define the really major protagonists. Say the largest game for any character that is playable in five or more games, and/or anything that has a major shaping impact on the RON world. These should be few, because they enable players to "get started".
(2) canon. All short and moderate-length games that have an at least semi-interesting storyline that fits with the rest. Whether these are "arcs" or not is not really relevant, all an "arc" is is a subsection of storyline made by one user. These need not be few; players can play them to get deeper into the world.
(3) slush pile.
#3597
Hm, I'm curious and will definitely take a look.

On the other hand, how is this better than Game Maker? And, given that they have five "basic templates" and require no programming, will it perhaps simply result in a large number of levels for otherwise-mostly-identical platformers and so forth? I wonder.
#3599
Well, of course we don't. This is the forum for the Application to Generate Shoot'em'ups, after all. We just love such classics as King's Shoot, Space Shoot, Leisure Suit Shooter, and Day of the Shotgun.

I don't know ... maybe it's that I was actually alive during the era? ;)
I think that makes quite a difference, yes (then again, so was I).

So for the KQ1/SQ1/PQ1/LL1 games, does this have the AGI original? Or the hi-res remake? Or the VGA remake, if any?
