I like the idea, but it would be tricky if we were working on a script at the time. And if we were finishing up a function that, as unfinished, wouldn't compile...

Ah yes, another issue is that AGS sometimes uses the term "save the game" when referring to storing everything on the hard disk (which is what I meant) and sometimes uses it when referring to "compiling all data into a playable executable" (which I think is what Rui meant). Storing doesn't require a compilable script.

I would find it very useful if AGS would save the game you're working on every fifteen minutes or so. Working on a low-end system I occasionally experience windows crashes due to lack of memory, and while my room files are generally up-to-date this can undo lots of work on the global script in particular.
#4423
Trivial bug: if you open the "animating backgrounds" menu, the room is marked as dirty even if you don't actually save anything. *edit* I mean if you don't change anything.

It would be nice to have a button to copy the additional backgrounds to the clipboard, just like you can copy the main background to the clipboard.

Speaking of which, she probably doesn't want to hear what the reaction to KQIX was from the HOTU general public... oh well.

To see! Definitely. It is totally awesmoe!

Least favorite QFG4 moment...

when you're talking to Katrina all the time and you're just aching for the conversation option that says "Hellooooo! You're a friggin' vampire! It's bleedingly obvious! Can I just stake you now please?"  but of course the hero remains clueless.

Stupid railroad plot.

The bind moggles... surely there's some scifi game that does wonkyness with a black hole? Or some toon game that has a portable hole (which also tend to be black)?

A semi-related point to all this, there is an issue of fair competition involved. Virtually all AGS games are homemade games by non-professional enthousiastic fans of the genre. Al Emmo in particular is not, because it has a rather large budget and employs professional paid artists. Apples and oranges.

I entirely and wholeheartedly agree with Pesty's remark that "people would just vote for their favorite game in every category, regardless of what the category was. That's why I'm all for a committee, because then we won't have one game sweeping the awards, and other games will get a chance to be considered. It just seems unfair to me."

History has shown that one game can easily sweep the awards. If we really want that then we could simply have only one award.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the annoyingness of this game is the kind that I would like to recreate. How the hell do you get over the hole, I'm almost tearing my hair out.

Spoiler

It's very logical. You can't jmup. So...

Spoiler

You need something to put over it. The illogical part is getting it there.

I've fixed the bugs mentioned in these threads (at least, the ones that weren't intentional) and recompiled META with the latest version of AGS.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum to write on, but the link to download the said game seems to be broken.

I keep getting redirected to a "searchportal.information.com" site which is rather weird. I still see the URL "http://www.agsforums.com/rlbat-win.zip", though.  ???

Thanks!

If you (like me ::)) need help with the second meta-question, google "bytes to kilobytes" and you should find an accurate calculator or two to help with that question.

Er, divide by 1024? (or 1000, if you must) Your computer does have a desktop calculator, no? If not, a long division should take you all of five seconds.
#4435
Absolutely. In the EGA version, the trail is clearly a different color. I don't know about VGA. IIRC, it goes counterclockwise, a bit southeast from the start. If necessary, take a step then save, rinse and repeat.

1. The exact reading can differ by +- 1Kb when you check it using different version of OS and/or commands.

<grin> I believe I've got all of them covered. Some variants are acceptable, e.g. kibis.

Okay, okay.

Spoiler

You need a key. You probably knew that.
[close]

Spoiler

Since you can't pick up a key anywhere, you have to use the "stuff pockets" debug function.

However, one of the inventory items is a fire, which will kill you if carried. So is there some way of getting rid of it?

Spoiler

How would you quench a fire?

Spoiler

Throw water on it, most likely. Or in this case, the other way around.

Still can't find a way to open the door in the secodn test, I thought of extinguishing the fire (in the editor or Awesoem Quest) and then use give inventory debug function, but that didn't seem to work either.

Yes, that would be the way to do it.

Aarghhhhhh am absolutely stumped again! Have made it to the door, have put a key on the floor - not sure if this is right - but if this is the right thing to do - I can't fathom out how to pick it up.

You're on the wrong track. See Gilbert's remark.
