99 is the game's autosave, which is made when you quit. 999 is the restart point automatically generated by AGS.

Aha!

Thank you, Cat. So the thing is, the game prevents you from building on the last tile of any particular kind of terrain, because you might need that resource (e.g. if you'd build on top of all trees, you wouldn't be able to harvest wood any more). I just forgot to make an exception for grass, which doesn't produce anything anyway. You can get around this by using the 'clear land' build option to turn any terrain into open grass.

I'll go code my own saved game GUI to avoid the overload issue, which appears to be caused by AGS's ShowSaveGameDialog() function.

Spinners:
Spoiler
You should be able to place a spinner on open grass. If that doesn't work, please send me a saved game.

Torches:
Spoiler
Put down torches to keep snakes from eating there.

Weapons:
Spoiler
Weapon monkeys will chase off snakes when they appear.

The autosave is #99. Otherwise it's the standard dialog, so #0, #1, and so forth.

Two players report getting this error ("Save game directory overflow") in Monkeys to the Moon.

Now this is a MAGS game so I didn't have the time to code a saved game GUI, hence it uses AGS's internal GUI for that. So this issue would probably go away if I code my own, since I've never seen it before. Still, perhaps someone can tell me what this error means?

As Mandle writes in the MAGS thread,

HOLY CHRIST!!!

A resource-gathering mechanical survival game in AGS!!!

Forget Factorio:

BANANATORIO FTW!!!

I haven't managed to finish the game yet, but I was stunned at how much there is to do, how well the interface works, how intuitive the game mechanics are, and how complicated the game gets after you birth 2 or 3 extra monkeys, and I believe you can attempt to control 25 total: WOOF!

This game is a tribute to how well and simply a game can work if the author really thinks out the coding structure ahead of time...

It probably also helps if you're the dude that created Heroine's Quest and have the know-how from that under your belt!

Seriously though: I'm going to be playing the absolute SHIT out of this game when I have the time!

This is such a nice topic, actually. If only I did not forget how to make games fast...
How do you people do this in several days? I am jealous :).

CW, you're one of the best programmers we have. Focus on any game that's primarily about coding and doesn't require complex story or art, and you could probably pull it off in a couple days :)  It doesn't have to be an adventure game, for instance last month we had a racing game and an RTS/puzzle hybrid.

Interesting concept, I may join again.

Something that came up in private discussion last month... how does MAGS feel about a logo screen, if you're MAGSing with a team that worked on prior games? Does this fall under prior material or is it more like a template?

Would you believe the MOON is a banana? Well, the monkeys do! And they're not going to take that lying down!

Using spare wood, electric eels, and gratuitous reed they plan to build a rocket to fly to the world's biggest banana! In space!

Control up to 25 monkeys as you scour the jungle for resources, build crafting workshops, breed more monkeys, and build The Rocket! Don't forget to defend yourself from hungry snakes. An RTS'like puzzle game made for August's MAGS contest.

Download here.

Monkeys to the MOON!

With just 007 seconds to spare on the clock, Radiant and team send in their entry! Many thanks to faithful companion Elissa for the artwork, and to Luis for the music.

  • More Monkeys! Control up to 25 of the little critters! Ook indeed!
  • More Banana! Would you believe the MOON is a banana? Well, the monkeys do! And they're not going to take that lying down!
  • More Time and Space! Funny you should mention space... how else would you get to the bananoon than by building a ROCKET?
  • Pore Transport! Let's see, we've got wood, some eels, patches of reed... yep, prime rocket material all around!
Oh, and there's snakes in the grass, too. How fast can YOU build?

Yes I am :)

Slouching Towards Bedlam.

It's a text adventure (interactive fiction) about insanity. Or perhaps it's not. Play it and find out!

Playable online.

I'm interested in Warhammer Quest, mostly for nostalgia reasons.

Also, I still have a free copy of Achron. It's a coupon, not a code. If interested, please link me to your Steam ID.

Monkey Business!

We're looking for somebody to make a song for this month's MAGS game, involving monkeys building things in the jungle. Suggested length is about two minutes and looping; this song would play continuously in the background as the game runs. Deadline is end of the month (as it's a MAGS game) and this is not a paid job.

Please PM me if you can help, thank you very much!

Hm, I haven't been able to get it to work. I can't even X-close the 'like us on facebook' banner on Indiegala that overlays the 'buy' button.

So according to our news sites here, industrial production in the UK declined even faster than expected; Bank of England predicts economic decline; and consumer confidence has the biggest drop since 26 years. Lloyd's Bank has canceled 3000 jobs, WizzAir canceled its growth plans in the UK, and both agricultural and technological industries have expressed severe concerns.
