General Discussion / Re: n00b adoption idea
Sun 13/11/2005 22:58:49
Sounds good to me, but at our luck, the rudest among us would be first up to adopt somebody. Ã,

Seriously though, it seems that n00bs have trouble following the rules right off the start, and get flamed. Ã, So it'd be good in that aspect to have mentors. Ã,
On the other hand, how many n00bs would be willing to be "adopted" by other members?

I like Torin's Passage.  It's a pretty good story, but a little weak on the adventure game side.  It was made in Sierra's last moments, just before the company was sold, so in comparison to their previous games, it wasn't too good.

Looks fine to me! Ã, Congratulations on your new culinary creation!

I never really cared whether or not my cake looked good or bad. Ã, After you eat them, they all look like crap.

I think I'm shorter than most people my age.  But I try not to worry about too much, there are more important things than heigth.  Like, AGS.

Are you comparing that to being aborted? ...

No, I'm not comparing the severity of abortion with the infringement of circumcision.  What I'm saying is that people tend to overlook the idea that infant circumcision is also a violation of a human's right to choose.

As a whole, I agree that telling the father is a good policy, but shouldn't be a must.  I also agree that not just anybody should be able to go and get an abortion because they don't want the kid.  Abortion, in an ordinary pregnancy, is not fair to the child because it has no say.

But, interestingly enough, most people who would say no to an abortion because it denies the child a choice would, after birth, whisk that said child into an operating room to be circumcised.

...but I think abortions shouldn't be happening in the first place.

Well, that's kind of a different topic from this one, but personally, I feel that abortion should be reserved for those who really need it for medical reasons, such as in instances of tubal pregnancy.

Hello all.  I've got a discussion to open up here.

I'm sure you've all heard about Bush's new nomination to the Supreme Court, Samuel Alito: http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/10/31/scotus.bush/index.html

I've done some reading about him, and one of the issues that seem to come up again and again, is that Alito once ruled in favor of a state requirement that wives notify their husbands if they were going to get an abortion.
A lot of people, particularly those of more liberal stance, seem to think that this is a very bad thing.  I consider myself a liberal, but for some reason, I'm not seeing this issue the same way.  Why shouldn't a husband have a right to know if his wife wants to abort the baby?

So, I'm asking your opinion:
Should a wife be required to tell her husband that she wants or is going to get an abortion?
Why or why not?

I love these scary jumpy thingies.  But perhaps the most clever one of them all is not a video, but rather, an audio file!

I recall it was some kind of voice message from Lindsay Lohan to some other celebrity.  The thing is, the audio was recorded so low, you had to turn the volume up ALL THE WAY.  Towards the end of the clip, a loud, screaming voice comes on full blast, proudly proclaiming, "I LOVE GAY PORN! I'M WATCHING GAY PORN RIGHT NOW!"

Imagine that happening at work!

I dunno if this will help or not, but a little ways down the list they have replacement cables.  As far as actually replacing it goes, I have no idea.

Whoa whoa!Ã,  King Nipper, I'm not trying to fight with you or anything.Ã,  I just like to debate with people, about anything.Ã,
But then again, maybe the word debate is just polite for fight.

Anyway, it doesn't have to be a fight.Ã,  Ã, :)

Squinky, according to the Army Post, the pentagon wants to raise the recruitment age to 42, I believe.

By the way, my post was only about 340 words long.Ã,  See, I can turn anything into a debateÃ,  ;)

I know!  I remember when I was two, arguing with my parents about whether or not the Korean and Vietnam wars were worth the cost and what the results were.  ;D

King Nipper,

How can you say that bombers are "failing"?Ã,  http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/meast/10/07/iraq.main/index.html

Just because bombers are only killing three or four people in every attack doesn't mean they're "failing".Ã,  It's a small but steady trickle of lives being lost and it all adds up.

According to the article above, we've lost a total of 1,953 U.S. troops in Iraq, as of Oct. 7.Ã,  That's almost two-thousand American lives.Ã,

On September 8, 2004, CNN reported the U.S. death toll in Iraq had made it to 1,000.Ã,  One year later on Sept. 7, 2005, we'd lost another 882 troops about.Ã,  Now we're at 1,953.

So, for arguments sake, let's assume we're going to be losing about 1,000 troops a year, give or take some. If that's the case, by the middle or end of 2006, we'll have lost around 3,000 people.Ã,  Ã,

If we're going to save ourselves and the world from terrorists like we were trying to do with the communists, it's probably not going to happen over night, if ever.Ã,  This could go for years and years, a few lives here, a few more there.
And what with the currently low support for Bush and his war, it doesn't look like new recruits are breaking down the doors to get in.
Major General Michael Rochelle, the US Army's recruiting commander, told a May 20 press conference: “Today's conditions represent the most challenging conditions we have seen in recruiting in my 33 years in this uniform..."
That was reported on June 1, 2005.

I see this post is getting very long, so I'll have to curb my enthusiasm for debate and cut right to the chase.

What I'm saying is, I think the tides are turning against Bush and his policies and his wars.Ã,  I don't think there is an end in sight for Iraq, despite what we're told.Ã,  Vietnam lasted some eleven years.Ã,  I doubt a lot of people saw a draft coming in those days, but they were wrong.Ã,  And, out of curiosity, what is the purpose of this Iraq war?

The last draft we had was in Vietnam, seeing as it was the last major war we had.
As the casualty rate continues to creep upwards, sooner or later a draft is inevitable.  Unless the war stops, but I don't believe that's going to happen any too soon.

This may be a great way for me to get flamed, but what is wrong with the rightful owner of a copyrighter work saying, "Listen, we own this idea, not you."?

Now, personally, I don't see why they would choose to stop this individual game, other than the size and magnitude of it would stand to take away sales from the release of the collections.  And if you'll look it up, that is a legal and valid reason for them to request them to stop, and if needed, sue.

What I don't understand is why they don't go after the defamatory projects.  Maybe they will.

And, like was said before, Roberta Williams has nothing to do with this.  In fact, I doubt she even would've had any complaints against the project.  Many of the original creators of these games actually like the fan made games.  In an e-mail to me, Lori Cole praised the VGA remake of QFG2 and other fangames.   (Yes, I really do have an e-mail from her.  I e-mailed Lori Cole from their Transolar site.)

Anyway, that's make take on the situation.

The things I remember and laugh about:

1. Being very scared of the weirdos on this forum right after I joined.

2. Telling people my game had reached 200 Megabytes and feeling totally proud of it, even though it was all just some 70 empty rooms and bunches of uncompressed music files.

3. The ags show!1!

4. Spending long hours on #ags burning my brain out.

5. And, of course, the RPG creator!

Happy birthday, but what draft are you talking about?

Are you asking me what the draft is, or are you asking me if I believe a draft is coming?
