So would "Use fish on door" be acceptable for a fisherman?

:P

What are you talking about?

I don't think it really matters what your main character does for a living, whether he's a detective or a plumber.  The trick is writing the story so that your main character has obligation and good motivation to solve a problem.

MUSIC: (Updated info: Changed e-mail, new policy.)

CONTACT: raggit@hughes.net

I will do music for any length of game.Ã,  I work in MP3 and OGG formats, your choice.Ã,  However, I don't offer MIDIs.

I can do most any type of music, from orchestral to techno, from love songs to punk rock, I'veÃ,  done a little of all types.Ã,  Ã, I'm best at doing serious music, so I prefer to work on games with more serious stories.

I use a Yamaha TYROS to create my music, so you can expect very high quality sound.

If you're interested in my service, then drop me an e-mail
or just send me a personal message here in the forums.

I have these music samples available:

Love Ballad sample- 1 min. 19 sec.
Techno sample- 39 sec.
Orchestral sample- 50 sec.
Arabic sample- 26 sec.
Mellow sample- 26 sec
Sinister suspense sample- 38
Oriental sample- 29

If you're interested in hearing a specific style of music from me, let me know and I'll put it together for you.

I've canceled my original "morals policy," so I'm no longer opposed to providing work for projects that contain violence, profanity, sex/nudity, paranormal material.
(However, I still say no porno-type projects. Those are just tacky.)

You actually can find PQ1 VGA for download in some places.Ã,  I did.Ã,

I think it'd be nice to ease up on DizzyDancer, especially since she is new.Ã,  She wasn't spamming, she wasn't looking for warez, she wasn't being immature or annoying.

I think Trademarks and Copyrights are safe ideas.  I don't think anybody would have to worry about members of this community stealing their work, but you never know.  Especially since there are lots of lurkers and people on the outside who'd come across the game.

"there just isn't a call for it, certainly not today."
For individual's games, no there isn't a call.  I'm thinking of large scale, full-length projects.

As far as what I was considering, I was thinking I would be overshooting the needs of most AGS games.  I would be using the Yamaha TYROS, which for anything less than a full-length game, would be overkill.

It seems that things have come a fair distance in the AGS community.  It seems that lots of people are forming teams to create bigger and better projects.

Already AGSers have offered to pay others money for their services, such as animators, composers and background artists.
In your opinion, is this a good thing or a bad thing?

On one hand, people are more willing to do a great job on what it is they're doing if there is payment involved.  The end result is a higher quality game and better gaming experience.

On the other hand, does payment for services mean that soon there will be payment required to download AGS games?
Will this make AGS too commercialized and take game creation away from those who just want to make games for the pure enjoyment of it?

These questions are lofting through my mind as I am considering making myself fully available for just doing soundtracks for games here.  I would basically be opening a music and sound business for AGS games, and yes that would mean payment is required.

But would it be the right thing to do?  Would I help or harm the community?  Who would pay cash for their game's soundtrack?  Teams creating full-length adventures?  Newbies plunging into the AGS world thinking they're making the greatest game of all time?  Or nobody?  No matter what, I want to get more seriously involved in the world of music.  But I don't want to use this community as a stepping stone if it will cause bad results.

Good graphics and good gameplay don't have to enemies.  The two can co-exist.  Good graphics can really add to the atmosphere and enjoyment of a game.

Special effects do the same for a movie.

The whole point is, don't let the graphics take priority over the gameplay.

How do you know this?

AGS has added a lot to my life.  And maybe taken some away.

AGS helped me:

Be persistant.
Improve my writing.
Improve my drawing.
Improve my music.
Improve my programming skills through hours and hours of unspeakable pain and frustration.

And of course, AGS brought me to this wonderful forum.

The forum has:

Corrupted my mind.   ;D

Calling all font designers!

I need the skills of a talented individual who would like to create some fonts for me.  I'll need a couple different fonts, medieval style.

These fonts will need to be original creations and for use in my game only.  You will be credited for your work in the game.  If you're interested in this job, please PM me and I'll provide you with full details.

Wow, I guess I'm lucky.  I'm only now sixteen and all the years I've been on these boards, I never got treated like garbage.

Kinda funny though, all this talk about a need for moderators to control spamming and stuff, and here we have the administrator himself joining in on the fun of a large picture of naked rollercoaster riders.   :D

Um.  This just seems too weird.  I've got an NPC moving to a new room.  The player character goes along with him.  Sure, it's easy to set the starting coordinates for the player in that new room, but isn't there a way to set them for the NPC?

I'm using an older Windows XP version of AGS.  But I can't imagine it not having this simple capability.

General Discussion / What's your soapbox?
Thu 03/03/2005 01:24:45
So what do you preach about?  What are your pet peves?  What area are you most persuasive in?  Politics? Religion?  Lawn fertilizers?
My big soap box usually deals with politics.  I have a lot of soap boxes, but I won't list them all now.

It has been a long time since I posted here, so I decided, insted of creating a "hi, how's it going" topic, I'd create something of moderate interest.  BTW, how IS it going?

:)

I'm listening to... uh, nothing.   ???

Blackthorne:

I didn't claim I knew what God was thinking.  Read the Bible and find out what I'm talking about, don't take my word for truth.

I really don't want to argue if you're just trying to get me all worked up.  That won't work.

Tiki:

I probably used the wrong words.  I don't believe God has a counter either.  What I meant was that when the judgment day comes, God isn't going to be very tolerant.  Nobody will have room to say "I didn't mean it" or "nobody told me it was wrong."

But now is the time to accept him.  The Bible says he casts our sins to the very bottom of the sea and never remembers them.  Satan is the one who remembers them and uses them against us.

DG:

You're very right, God created humor and I believe he has a sense of humor.  However, like everything he has created, there is corruption in it.  Everything good that God gave us has a side which Satan corrupted.  God doesn't really appreciate a corrupted sense of humor.

I hope that people can understand I don't mean to preach a sermon.  I'm not looking down on you, and I hope you all know that.  I make mistakes, I commit sins, I am guilty of making dirty jokes.  But, I believe God is always there and that I'm working my way towards him.

I'm not going to force you to listen to me or accept my beliefs.

To everybody:

God doesn't get angry when you mock the Bible and ridicule him.
He isn't sitting on his throne just waiting for you to mess up so he can scream "Eternal condemnation on you!" Ã, However, that doesn't mean he'll tolerate it forever. Ã, You have to choose whether you except him or not. Ã, So don't get too defensive thinking that God hates you. Ã,

God wants us to know how much he loves us and that we can be forgiven for anything, if you're really sorry. Ã, Really, the only thing he can't forgive is what you won't confess. Ã, It's obvious he loves us, or else he wouldn't have sent his son to be nailed to a cross for us. Ã,

I accept Christ as my saviour, and I wish you all would do the same. Ã, God never forces, and I can't force you to accept him either.

It works alright, except there is one problem.  Option 2 in topic 2 should not show up until the ego clicks option 1 in topic 2.  After that, if he spoke with char1, option 2 will pop up.  If not, then nothing happens.

The way it works now, option 2 in topic 2 shows up from the start of the conversation.
