I feel this thread should be locked soon. But before it is locked, it is only fair to give Helm a chance to defend himself, so Helm, wherever you are, if you want to defend yourself I think now is the time.

I PMed Yufster after Helm's FIRST attack wich was that retarded restraining order!!!! I extended my personal appology and gave her a welcome to stay. I still mean every word I said of it too!

Naw, Helm isn't going to leave. He'll refrain from posting awhile probably.  At least I THOUGHT he was more mature than to let a petty issue with somebody to drive him away from here.

Well I support this thread.   Although Helm has not responded to our "feed back" in his hate thread so we should probably wait and see what his feelings are before we go too far. But I just don't get Helm.  There are lots of people here who post alot more useless junk than Yufster.  I believe C.Leksutin will be making a visit to that hate thread very soon.

But yes, Yufster if you're reading this, remember we welcome you here!!!!!

Yes, if you have an issue with somebody you should confront them (enless it is totally frivolous.)

But this is NOT the way to do it. This will only make the situation worse, and grant temporary satisfaction to the posters hateful side.  Helm, if you hate Yufster so bad, talk it over with her and don't rave on and on publically about her traits that annoy you.

MillsjRoss:  If Helm wanted to make a point about thinking before we post, why doesn't he address all of us insted of singling out Yufster? If he seriously felt that way, why'd he post this stupid thread in the first place? This is more useless than any of Yufster's recent posts.  All this is for is to hurt her.  Yufster isn't trying to hurt Helm.  

I hope she doesn't give in to him and just totally take off. She's a nice person.  It's just when she makes jokes she doesn't use the same approach as we do.

However, I DO believe we need to think before we post. We should also learn to hold our tounges.

Helm, this is pratically a threat letter.  Wich, by the way, is illeagle.

While I can't understand what Yufster has done, you should talk to CJ or to Yufster directly and quit trying to build up a 'torch and pitchfork' mob to run Yufster away.

But maybe you hadn't noticed, Yufster changed her ways ever since that restraining order. Even her profile changed.  Maybe you didn't know becuase you were gone, but try and have a little tolerence.

Hey, suppose I went and started a Helm HATE thread?? Just becuase I don't like the way YOU'RE behaving. It wouldn't be right would it? So as I'm telling you to do, so should I do myself and have tolerence.

I don't think this is a good idea. Like m0ds and the others said, they, as well as I, wouldn't like people to be able to steal graphics and sprites from our games.

I would have to say that my influence has come mainly from Sierra, as I played many of their adventure games when I was little. Those games made me want to make my own.

Other inspiration for me comes from various things and stuff.

Yes, this is true.

But however, people don't really know how much is too much until somebody speaks up.  I don't think Helm wanted this thread to be rude or a place to flame Yufster, but insted to help her get along in the community better.

I tend to agree with the others. Yufster, you're welcome to stay as long as you behave in a nice fashion.

Yeah, that is what I mean but I seem to be getting errors.

It is like it has to have qoutation marks all around the code. Like this:

string name;
InputBox("Enter your name:","name");
Display("Welcome, name");

Or something similar to that.
And then when it does save, the message is displayed like "Welcome, name". When I tried the % it gave me an error saying something about SCI fonts. It doesn't seem to be recongnizing what I type.

Strange. Is there an alternative way to do this or am I screwed up?

Guess I give it a try.  Oh, by the way Chris, have you considered adding a night and day transition timer to the engine? You know, like the user could check something in the big main menu thingy where you select all that other stuff like speech style stuff.  It could just be global timer and after some many minutes or whatever amount of time the player chooses the screen tints black or blue or whatever.

Just a suggestion!

A somewhat immature perspective but anyway.  People who have computer problems usually have outdated computers so it isn't fair to lay all the blame on Bill Gate's doorstep.

I decided I want my players to be able enter their names in my game.  When they do this, NPCs will talk to them and call them by whatever they entered as their name.

Well I'm having some very strange problems.  In the beggening of the game I run the InputBox script.

I understand the deal with the string prompt but what should I use for the string buffer? Then I have a command set to display a message right after entering some text in the input box just to test it. The message should contain whatever the player typed.

Example of my script:
___________________________________

InputBox("Enter your name:",what should go here?");
Display("Welcome, what should go here?);
____________________________________

As you can see, I'm a little (if not alot) confused. I read it over in the manaul several times but I still think I'm doing something wrong. Could you provide me with a little example in the style of what I'm trying to do?
