Quality of a game can be determined by:

Graphics.

Music.

Story.

Gameplay.

Just to name a few as well as the GUI and stuff. Quality is also determined by how much feedback a game gets in it's release thread. If people say "Dude this game rocks!" then it is probably worth more.

If people respond saying "This game sucks" then it probably isn't. How much people are willing to spend is the main determining factor. If they feel it is worth it, they can buy it and then that can lead others to do the same.  I think the best way we can see is just to try it and find out if it works.

All in favor?

All opposed?

You mean this isn't a communist forum?

Anyway, how would you decide which games are hits or flops? That could get a little unfair.

Nobody chooses wether games or hits or flops. The games speak for themselves as people download them.

Lets say m0ds puts shares of FoY up for sale on the AGS market.  If you think the game is going to be popular you can buy shares while they are dirt cheap.  If and when the game is a hit the price will go up and you can sell your shares for lots 'o AGS cash!

What is the benifit of this you ask? What is the benifit of the AGS awards?  I'm not slamming the awards, I'm just using them as an example. But since this is for fun does there have to be a prize?

Anyway, maybe we can give it a shot.

I can't even believe what I'm hearing.  You can't honestly say that capitalism is evil!!!!!!

Man 'o man you'll be hearing from my sister!

But this isn't a political debate thread, for goodness sake it's just a game I thought up. It isn't like you'd be losing real money.  I noticed that Hotshot said "what about the feelings of the people whos games are flopping?"

Regardless of wether that was a joke or not, it might serve as a good way for people to learn how to improve their games. When they see what games are hot and how people react to those games the makers can judge how to make their game better. This could be particularry useful to newbies.

Maybe this should go in the competitions forum.

Anyway, I was thinking about how cool it would be if we had an AGSer's stock exchange! Of course real money wouldn't be used. We'd use "AGS dollars".

How it would work is that people could "buy" and "sell" shares of their favorite AGS games and their creators. As well as purchase shares of upcoming projects.

Creators could add their projects to the list and people could buy that game.  If the game is a hit players get "AGS dollars". If the game is a flop they lose AGS dollars.

Each person will start off with a set amount of AGS money. With that they can use it in the AGS stock exchange.  At the end of a month or whatever the person with the most "money" wins. People could keep track of their money just by writing it down, or even displaying it on their signature if they are on an ego trip. This game would be based on the player's honesty to tell the truth about their AGS wealth.

Anyway, this was just an idea for a fun board activity people could participate in.  What do you think?

I've looked for the same thing but I never found anything. If anybody finds a tool like that post it here, as I would be interested in it.

Sometimes I like Roller Coaster Tycoon and somtimes I hate it.

General Discussion / Re:how long do you stay
Wed 11/06/2003 19:49:23
There have been a few times when I've thought of leaving. It wasn't becuase of anybody or anything, it was just that I wasn't making any games and I was just kinda hanging around. Wich I still kinda am.

But I changed my mind becuase I figured I could at least keep doing music for people.

Anyway, stay as long as you like! Even if you never make a game you can at least help people with their stuff or whatever.

I'd make a game about me but I don't want to be swamped with fan mail.

Snake I know EXACTLY what you're talking about.  I used to feel like that all the time. I always used to think I wanted to die before everybody else did and stuff. But now I want to live a long life and experience as much of it as I can becuase it is too sweet to miss out on. Let me tell you, it slowly subsides after time. It may take awhile but it will go sooner or later. It may not completely leave you but most of it probably will.

As corny as it may be, I started feeling this way after our dog died. I was really attactched to her and I couldn't help but think how much more painful it'd be if one of my human family members died.

For me it took awhile to get over anyways. I don't think I'm totally over it though. I do still worry about my loved ones dying but there isn't anything I can do about it.  We just get old and die.  But it isn't as grim as it sounds.  Like Sylph and CJ said, get the most out of it you can.

And think back over your life and look at all that you've done and experienced.  Look at all the fullfillments and so on. It makes you feel good about your life.

Somebody should do one of Chris saving the world.

It could happen Bob but it is very unlikely.  I mean half of the malicious code warnings people get are bogus.

People don't have to create viruses. They just have to make them up to cause people to panic.

*Raggit senses a mass confusion epidemic approaching.

Confusing post?

I don't understand!!    ???

Hehe, seriously though, let me emphasize my hate for virus warnings. They're usually ridiculous, as this one is.
Or at least I think so.

When I got this I thought it was rather humorous because people will believe anything. It's not that I doubt that there are viruses out there that can format your C drive.  I think it is kinda funny this message is circulating the net.

Second, to make sure there is no confusion, the actual e-mail begins with the line "Subject: 'WTC Survivor'--NEW VIRUS???"  And it ends with the line "PLEASE FORWARD THIS MESSAGE!"

Moderators, If this turns into a  ???  post please feel free to lock or remove.

General Discussion / teh new viRus warning!!1!

Got this in an e-mail a bit ago:

Subject: "WTC Survivor" --NEW VIRUS???

I don't take these "new virus" warnings lightly anymore.

I recently received a one of the typical warning notices from my brother that had been sent to him.  A few hours later I received an email from "support@microsoft.com"......Some of you may have seen it.

Like many others who might want to see what "Microsoft support" has to say, I opened it.   Norton Antivirus went crazy!!  It found the subject virus from "Microsoft support", and quarantined it.  It was the same one my brother had warned me about just hours earlier.   It was then that I went back to his email and found the name of the virus matched the one quarantined.

Hope everyone's anti-virus tools are updated.  Happy computing!!

Dave T.

***************

Very Important

During the next several weeks be VERY cautious about opening or launching any e-mails that refer to the World Trade Center or 9/11 in any way, regardless of who sent it. PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY. FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW, "WTC" STANDS FOR THE WORLD TRADE CENTER. REALLY DANGEROUS BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL OPEN IT RIGHT AWAY, THINKING ITS A STORY RELATING TO 9/11!

BIGGGG TROUBLE !!!! DO NOT OPEN "WTC Survivor" It is a virus that will erase your whole "C" drive. It will come to you in the form of an E-Mail from a familiar person. I repeat, a friend sent it to me, but called and warned me before I opened it. He was not so lucky and now he can't even start his computer!

Forward this to everyone in your address book. I would rather receive this 25 times than not at all. So, if you receive an email called "WTC Survivor", do not open it. Delete it right away! This virus removes all dynamic link libraries (.dll files) from your computer.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS MESSAGE!
___________________________________________

Hehe, people are so funny. They'll forward anything if it says "PLEASE FORWARD THIS MESSAGE!".  Why not research it if you're going to put stock in it.

My favorite part is the part about it erasing your whole C drive!!!

Don't know why I posted this. I just thought it was humorous. Especially since it dates back to December 2001.
