QuoteHope you don't mind, but I've been doing some tinkering with this.

Er....*cough* maybe. :/ Sort of kinda feels like you took my idea before I had a chance to produce it. Maybe I should have struggeled through creating somthing first before asking for help, but I dind't think someone would start another project from it. No worries though, I mean, I guess I can't force you to stop and I probobly don't have a right to. I probobly couldn't have done it anyway without a lot of learning anyway. If you ever fix the problems in it, let me know if you ever get it 100% done so I can see it.

[Not exactly sure why the image doesn't display, but if you right click on it, go to properties you can see the page its linked from and type that into a new browser window to see the picture]

Scratch that, I just uploaded a pic onto an old site I havn't used in ages and abandoned. Surpised it still exsists, actually. This is a first draft compilation of what the second screen would look like. (The first screen would be an image of the book closed with a Name: and Password: field.) Each page is numbered as it is created and when a user logs on, it automatically takes them to their last entry. The left and right arrows obviously turns the pages. I don't know if there is some sort of search feature that could be made to find an entry made on a specific date. Such as if I wanted to know what I got as presents last christmas I could type in 12/25/04 and zoom right there without having to manually click the right or left arrow a million times to get to it.

Umm...so. Let me know what you all think. Keep in mind I just made this in a day so it might not be the image I actually use for the program. (I didn't even draw the book myself, so there might be a copyright issue there anyway)

XD hehe, well....thats a really interesting idea. Somthing I've never thought before, thats for sure. But its not exactly what I wanted. Its a neat idea thought, but I'm pretty steadfast in wanting it to look like an old dusty tome someone might store spells in or somthing. I already have quite a few drawings of it already in my sketchbook, I'm just trying to find a good place to upload them and then show them on here. Is there a place just for placeing pics for these forums? I forget.

Evil, I'm going to do this one way or another with or without AGS. I only said that if it could be done with AGS, it would probobly prepare me for making a game later on. I don't know how to go about making it with any other language.

Thanks RickJ, thats a good thought. I will have to do some research to find out how exactly that is to be done. :P Any other thoughts?

Okay, yay. I forgot I had this thread on here until today and the idea for this popped into my head again. Ã, I havn't been back to AGS in a while, busy with other things and such. Anyway, *cough* this is my offical ressurection of this thread *poof*.

QuoteWell, AGS can only accept 200 characters in a string at a time. So if you were going to do this, you'd end up writing REALLY short entries.

Yes, indeed. That sucks. I didn't know that because I havn't created any games yet.

QuoteWell, if you want a journal, just use wordpad. Are you talking like online capibilities? If you just want a personal journal, why does it have to be fancy?

Because...I just do. I know that is a bad answer, but...you don't really need a Porche, you could drive a saturn. You don't need a gigantic cake, expensive dress and flowers everywhere on your wedding, you could just go to Vegas. I know I could settle for stupid notepad but I just want somthing that looks way cooler. I invisioned a old looking book that opens up and you can flip forward or backward through that spot by clicking the pages. I would also use a fancy cursive font. I might draw a sketch and put a picture on here to show what I mean.

QuoteWhy use AGS? Why not VB or C++ or Java or something?

Or just use www.xanga.com or www.blogger.com or www.livejournal.com and make all your entries private..

Or better yet, get a notebook and pencil and have at it Ã, It's what I do!

Online? Well, thats the thing. I want to keep it private and an online diary/blog is somthing that you shove into the whole world's face. It also lacks really the look I was going for {old book style/fancy fonts}. So online isn't really what I'm looking for.

Why use AGS? I dunno. Um...because I don't know any other languages. [actually, I don't know AGS either, but thats beside the point. :P] How do you get started writing C++? What do you use to make a program with it? I took a VB course back in highschool so I know a little of that, but I don't have VB on my comp. How much does it cost to buy ya think?

Regular diary? Because.... I don't know. Its so low tech. :P I want somthing really cool that I can personalize and also allow me to gain some experience with making somthing using code.

Well, okay.  I know this one..and it is pretty funny...

Okay, a mollusk walks up to this sea cucumber, well he doesn't actually walk, he's just there, and he turns to the sea cucumber, and... Well, wait, there's a mollusk and a sea cucumber and...or maybe it was some sort of shell fish.....well anyway, and then he says somthing really funny and the sea cucumber says "Plankton! I don't need no stinkin' plankton!"

Hi all. I'm sure alot of you don't remeber be (I never did much) but I used to post in the forums a bit around here for a while and then vanished. Still am working on the preliminary sketches of a game, but thats not what this thread is about. I had this idea one day for a non-adventure program. But, seeing how I've never created a program in my life, I'm not sure how the best way to go about it. The idea is quite simple. I want to create a journal writing program (or a "Diary", if you insist on that term). I know there are a few program journals you can download and use, but they all look so shabby. :/ I havn't found any astheticly pleasing application yet and so I figured I might make one.

So, let me state again my programming ignorance. I relize that AGS is made from adventure games and ergo, it probobly wouldn't be best suited for this. I'd just like to know if it would be possible or...rather, rational or if it would make more sense to use another code. Anyway, comments? Ideas? complaints?

I had trouble with this too because I missed a room compleatly. I suggest the same probobly happaned to you as well.
Spoiler
Get hammer if you don't already. It is right and up from the campfire in an opened barrel. 1. Go left from the boy&campfire and you should be back in the forest. 2. The path going south looks like it is blocked off with trees, but you can now go down there. 3. Go south and you will find a bay. Down in the corner there is a box. 4. Use hammer with box. 5. Someone has put poor kitty inside. Bad peoples! 6. Take kitty back to the boy.

isn't there a creature-guy in the machine room you can talk to? Try checking far right where the kitty is.

1. Alright. The best hint I can offer you is to read the FIRST THING it says in the begining of the game. Those words arn't spoken lightly or meant to be ignored.  This game was confusing for me too, it doesn't give a good explaination of you who are or where you are or what your doing here. But, oh well. Just roll with it. ;)

Spoiler
If your stuck at the very begining, glance at the pile of rocks. A symbol will flash. You must remember these symbols, they are your spells. Depending on what object you get them from, that will help you decide what to cast them on.

Hehe, I bet your pretty confused why you had to get the nuts in the first place...but hey, its always good to have a bag of nuts on you. (eww, did I just say that?) Anyway, this is what you have to do. Like so many times durring the game, this is one of the situations where the twins have to use there powers and work together.

Spoiler

1. Don't forget Tiff's gift. Have you talked to all the animals you can? All the animals gave give you little hints about what you need to do to help them.

2. You need somthing that can reach that window the rat has his tail in. Somthing long.

3. Maybe you've seen somthing that can reach it near the store.

4. Have you talked to any animals lately at the store?

5. The antenna is the object you need. Now, how do you get it? (Hint, the twins need to do two things at two different places at once.)

6. Use Tiff to convince the bird to hop onto the antenna, while Tim jacks up the frequencey to high and then turns on the T.V. Keep Tiff outside or the bird will stop singing. Congratuations, you've just commited property damage. This should turn the bird into KFC crispy chicken and hoplessly damage the antenna. Use Tim to float up to reach it. Then go over to the bar and use float and then the antenna on the window.

How to get the pen is a bit trickey.
Spoiler
As I recall, when you enter the town, sometimes...there is that guard who is arguing with the highway woman. I think, you have to sign the petition, then....put the pen on the table instead of giving it back to her. Leave the town and come back when they are arguing. She doesn't notice when you snatch the pen. Or thats how I remember doing it anyway. You should be able to do it at any point durring the game as long as you havn't gotten the Foolkiller to "take care of buisness".

Alright, thanx a bunch. :D Now I'm onto a new problem and I'm stuck again. :/
Spoiler
I got the flower, but its looking sort of droopy. I think to win over the bees favor so they will give you honey so you can make honey-covered-peanuts to give to the squirrel.....ect..ect.. How do I spruce up the flower? I tried most of everyrhing....I tried to put the formula on it, I tried to color it with the crayond, put the sticker on it to make it more happy (:P) , I even thought trying to put it in the fish bowl would help. But....I'm at a loss.. Help please?

tanx a bunch. Finished the game.

Alright.....I'm sort of stuck. I got the nuts (why I have them, I don't know? maybe Tim just got hungry) and...yeah. I have Peanuts, Scissors, Silly hat, and a flower. Yay. I have no idea how to get that mousie down, nor when I'm suppose to do it. Any hits on this, or if it not what I'm suppose to be doing, some help on what I should be doing?

Well, there are three people you need to help out to get rid of that pesky old seal.
Spoiler
If you havn't gotten it already, you need to get the white facepaint from the circus tent. Now, if you talked to the inventor guy, you know that he can't see well. Get him som glasses. There is only one other character in the game who is wearing glasses.....

Thats right, the cricket player. He will only give them to you if you give him somthing to protect his nose. Give the bastard the face paint, so he thinks its sunscreen. (heh, sucker) Then take the glasses back to the inventor. Hes so greatful, he will give you canned food (oh, for joy). But, hey. Remember. There is a man in the game who loves seafood. Maybe he would enjoy it.

The fisherman. Said he was looking for "somthing more interesting to fish for". Give him the can of "seal" (who knows what it really was) and he will get hooked on the stuff. Then, just sit back and watch all the peices fall into place.

Alright. GO FIGURE. As in Melrin 1, in Melrin 3 there is another friggin' Maze. :/ But this time I can't find any clues. What do I need to do/get before I can enter the maze?

You need to combine two items before you put them in the bowel. I just hope you got everything from the Bar before leaving your homeland.

Spoiler
You need a Royal Head. Now, I personalyl, would rather use Prince Evial's severed head, but I can't seem to find him. So you will need to improvise. Take the crown and king the head of cabbage you have. That should work.

Some of the items you use for spells can be.....improvised. Like, for Toadstool. I'll give you a hint. Its not a mushroom...

Spoiler
Have you met anyone who lives in a house by the name of Toad? Did you notice he had a stool in his house?
