When will it be ready? When are you going to finish it? When is your game due?

We're all still working on it. It's coming along well, so hopefully it will be out in the next few months. The backgrounds are almost complete (45 rooms at last count, just 2 more to go), and we're making good progress on characters.

I've also been using Targa, because I haven't had any luck with png & alpha channels.

I found that with the targa, you need to import a bunch of objects, and then actually close AGS, and restart it to open more. Otherwise, it crashes.

Targa also bloats the game size, but there doesn't seem to be many alternatives, since AGS wasn't really designed for 3D images.

Thanks for the feedback! No promises, but we should be able to have it out in the next few months ((I hope)). MarkPhantom is the writer/director, so I'll have to defer plot/inspiration questions to him!  It's a full length game.

These characters are still drafts, too. We might tweak them a bit still, but you get the general idea of what we're going for.

We use Blender (Make Human) for portions of the characters, especially the faces. The hair, I've been doing in Anim8tor. I did download some meshes from other sources (like Mr. Furniture), but we'll put all that in the credits/read me.  If anyone wants the links for the programs we've used, just holler and I'll pass them on. It's all freeware, most gpl.

Some early character previews....

We're making really good progress on everything.

Background art (around 40 rooms): 90% complete

Currently working on characters and some AGS scripting.

Just looked up radiosity (forgive me, still learning this stuff). It looks like it gives awesome effects!

For now, we've been using Anim8tor for these graphics, which allows for you to add basic shadows to the render, but you have to add lighting effects and most defined shadows manually.

Anticipating Murder 2

The story picks up a few years after the last game. You play Jake, a private detective who specializes in marital infidelity. One of his clients turns up dead, and Jake is out to find out who did it and why - while still keeping up his caseload and chasing cheating hearts.

This will be a freeware project, hopefully out by the end of the year. The art is all in 3D, all original work, and we think we've improved a lot since the last time. Sneak preview screenie below...more available if you want it. We haven't started promoting the game yet, since its still in the early stages, but we have several (animated) rooms and characters already finished.

We need a bit of help guys -

MUSICIAN needed!!! You'd have a huge amount of creative control, since neither of us can play anything beyond chopsticks.

We basically need a good looping theme, and some looping music for different settings as we progress (Jake's house, strip club, tae kwon do studio, library, funeral home, industrial zone, prison, Chinese restaurant, etc).

Cheers,
Lisa & Len

It's a great idea, especially for newbies that want to look at more than just roger in their games. :)

I read the thread - sounds like an awesome concept, but a bit involved (regarding the scripting - over my head!), but that Migs guy seems to know what he's talking about.

The fortune reading games are pretty easy to design (just a lot of random functions, which we linked to time), so it wouldn't be hard to make one that fits within a game.
#29
I'll go read that thread. Somebody else mentioned this also - that it would be a good idea to embed a fortune game inside of an actual adventure game.
#30
Yeah, we wanted to add a function so that you could display and save letters you scrolled over, if you used it as a traditional board, but couldn't figure out how to script that.

Some random creepy events are a good idea...

It surprised me to! But, I have the mystic seer up on my page as well, and he has horns (he was a precise replica of the one on tv), so maybe that led to the misunderstanding.

Yikes - to respond to some email I've gotten --

I'm sorry if I offended anyone. It is not my intention to encourage anything to do with satanism! I'm a pacifist, and don't believe in violence.

In my religious beliefs, I actually do not believe there is satan at all. I programmed the game to be a simple fortune reading program, with a creepy edge, but do not believe it is real or can actually contact anything dangerous.
#33
Did you do the artwork yourself? This looks very cool.
#34
I thought it was great for a first game.
#35
Oh goodie! Then maybe we'll have a real ghost to talk to...

Midnight Spirit Board

This is a non-adventure game made with AGS...

Two ways to play... Ask a yes or no question, and have your fortune told by the spirit guides. OR...you may also use this board as a traditional spirit (Ouija) board - just don't click, and use your mouse the same as you would a normal planchette.

Some believe that demons or other hostile forces can contact or manipulate board users, so use it responsibly!

It's the original version. Oops, sorry guys, maybe I did post about this back in October. I thought I didn't because it wasn't in the database.

Better late then never! I released this on my website  last October, just got around to posting it now...

MYSTIC SEER

Designed as a special Halloween tribute to the original Twilight Zone, the Mystic Seer is a replica of the fortune-telling napkin holder which starred in the second season episode entitled "Nick of Time."
