Critics' Lounge / RoN- kitten krysis style
Sun 21/12/2014 20:40:02
I've made an attempt at spriting up a kitten in Krysis' style (or as close to it as possible) and I'm not sure if I've accomplished that with any success.  Any suggestions on how and where things can be improved would be most appreciated.

In the worksheet below I've provided examples of the original kitten sprite, Mary the fox in Krysis' style (which is the style that's being emulated), and Drake just as a height comparison reference.

After hearing rumors of supernatural activity Jhon Steel, a paranormal investigator, has come to Reality to investigate.

This is a reconstruction of the original game "Paranormal Investigatino" created by Peter Tomov. The purpose of this reconstruction was to update the game to make it playable on more recent versions of Windows and to improve as many visual aspects of the game as possible.  Extra writing was also done to better explain the plot of the game.

The game can be found on this PAGE.
or just download directly from this LINK.

Monty on the Norm has received a reconstruction in AGS 3.3 to make it playable on modern machines.  This version features updated graphics and music.

The game can be found on this PAGE.
or just download directly from this LINK.

The first post has been edited to reflect the same download links in this post and features a screenshot of the game.

Great stuff.  The narrative device of telling the story through journal entries was a nice way illustrating the thoughts of the respective characters.  Your story also holds the distinction of being the first piece of fiction in a very long while.

I'd like to get it on the site and make a formal announcement.

A classic RoN game by Dave Gilbert has been given a makeover and update to run on modern machines.

Game synopsis:
You play the role of Death, the Grim Reaper, who has come to Reality to reclaim the soul of Michael Gower. Who's that? Michael Gower is better known as the zombie who is currently running for mayor of Reality.

First off, nice updated sprites there Retro Wolf.

As to what I'm working on: I've got some ideas bubbling away on the back burner and I'm also a part of the Back to Reality project that DG mentioned.  I'm also working on getting my own old projects recompiled to the most recent version of AGS and this will include the various reconstructions I did back in 2007.

In fact, "The Repossessor" is done!  Go to the RoN site and download it now.  Your kidneys will thank you... probably :).

I've just sticky-ed this topic so the list of various social media that RoN is on doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

RoN also has a page on TV Tropes, which can be found here.

And a Wikia, which can be found here.

Cloudy Days is a real estate agency.

The background looks fine, a little disconcerting to see it reversed but that's a good effect for a "mirror" world.

There's a new version of Virtual Reality that can be found at this link.

Just a reminder, this is still a work in progress.

Reality-on-the-Norm / Re: Some RON questions

- There's been no formal appearance of RoN university in the games to date.  The closest it's come in-game is a small unlabelled pamphlet in "Stuck at Home".  The town & uni maps on the website (faq section) show a detailed plan of the university campus & buildings.

- The Davy Jones' Spell Book pdf covers the games from "Lunchtime of the Damned" to "Stuck at Home".  Any newer games that had Davy use new spells/rituals (and I don't think there were many that did, if any at all) wouldn't be in the version on the site.

- You're referring to Virtual Reality and it's still a thing.  I've uploaded a new version that you can get in the Virtual Reality post or at this link instead.

- So long as your game follows the few rules (don't kill established characters or reveal the Bum's identity) you can make a post in the forum announcing your game.

Best of luck with the new position.  Feel free to drop in when you can, RoN will still be here. :)

Reality-on-the-Norm / RoN art activity
Thu 23/01/2014 16:55:36
It's been ages since we have any sort of fun graphical activity and I thought it'd be nice to do another one.

The subject is Brandford Scotts from Kunafits game "Strange Days".  For more info on the character & the game he appears in, please see his Character Page and the Strange Days page.

Anyone can participate and can submit a few entries if they wish.

Format: Any.  Can be a sprite, 3d model, drawn, etc.
Entry Period: Jan 23 - Feb 9

* As an optional, there could be a voting period between Feb 10 - 16 if we wanted to this to turn into a comp, upon which the community would pick the one they like most.  State/discuss if anyone would like to turn this into a comp or not.

Have fun.

Cools.
What about a platformer? ;)

Am I a clown for your entertainment?! ;)

Be thankful nobody asked for a dating sim.  :)

I really like the look of the sprites you've cobbled together.  I look forward to see this RPG progresses.

Out of curiosity, which game was it that so traumatized you?

As for a starting point, I'd usually say pick one that looks interesting and jump in, but that seems to have had disturbing results :).

You could take a look at Purity of the Surf by Dave Gilbert.  It's a stand alone and thus doesn't require an in-depth knowledge of the universe or characters.

Wow, late reply.  However, as pointed out there's been a few characters from other series that have popped up.  Such as Lassi & Roger, Commander Keen, Monty Mole, Joey Malone.

If they're your characters and you want to include them, feel free.  It's your game (if you're making one) after all.

That is it, it's done.  It's complete!  All humanoid characters have been converted to the Krysis style.  This lack pack includes:

[imgzoom]http://imageshack.us/a/img842/6988/qulg.png[/imgzoom]

Many thanks to Oldschool_wolf for helping get Guido mocked up and finished.  When you download the packs, you'll find three versions of Guido: naked, thong, and censored.

I've updated and uploaded the .cha & sprite packs (along with updated Krysis-style backgrounds) up to the site.

The animal characters still need work and if anyone is willing and able to help out, send me a pm and we'll discuss the subject further.
#58
When this is all over?  Probably be glad it's finally finished.  Of course, there's still the animals and I'll most likely need help with those.

Next four are done and uploaded on the site.  I've updated the character sprites pack as well.

Lassi & Roger come from the Lassi Quest series.
#59
I will accept cash :-D.

Here's the next batch of added characters.  The updated .cha pack can be downloaded from the RoN site.

Reality-on-the-Norm / Ron-ification
Wed 10/07/2013 04:06:05
This thread is for posting forum avatars, fictional characters from other media (books, movies, games, etc), or anything else (such as animals, vehicles, inventory items, props, etc) in the current RoN style.  If you have something, even if it's been posted elsewhere, feel free to post it here.

I'll begin with my own forum avatar:
