Duke Nukem?

Ding...Ding...Ding.

And the prize goes to Babar.

Also the game with the wonderful phrase 'Blow it out your ass' (both spoken in a, over manly, gruff voice. Just like mine. Ggrrrr) ;D

Surely the most used and memorable quote would have to be....
'It's time to kick ass and chew gum and I'm all out of gum'.

Yes? No? Maybe?

Hi Dualnames.

I have modified my first post a bit since last night as it wasn't very clear what I meant.
But hell you are right she was hot.

With this in mind I have now changed the rules.
Lets go for all types of media not just T.V. ;D

Hi all.

I got into a conversation tonight down the local and thought this might be a laugh.
It was all to do with television programs we remembered as kids.
Here is the question.

At what point in your life (when you were a young boy or girl watching T.V.) did you ever think "Oh yeah. I want you...Ooh!".
What show was it And who did it for you.

For me I think that 'Daisy Duke' of 'The Dukes Of Hazzard' did it for me. ;)
Don't be shy. Let us all know your childhood dreams.

Hey...Hey...Khris.

How the hell are you?
Long time since we spoke.

Thankyou for replying. I don't feel quite so mad now but I do find my insanity hard to gauge. :P
Would you mind if I pm'd you on a matter game related.
It is to do with AGS version 2.72 though. (You know. The first part of my game I have been trying to complete for ages.) ::)

Hope to hear from you soon.

Can someone please help.

I watched 'Waking the dead- Endgame' tonight.
However I have seen it before. I thought this was meant to be a new series!

My Family thinks I have gone mad.
Either it has been on tv before or I, at some point, have travelled into the future to watch it.
I have trawled through web pages and they all say it was aired for the first time tonight.
I don't undertand cos I knew what was going to happen and the outcome.

Please help me regain my sanity.

Hey Domino.

Johnny Cash, Was, Is great. As,Was, Is all of the 'Highwaymen'.
By this I mean Willie Nelson (still alive, I think), Johnny Cash (Not), Waylon Jennings (Not) and Kris Kristofferson (alive, I think) .

I loved all of their music and to me they will be forever missed.
I also think old music is best and can't stand Crap (sorry I meant Rap).

However I do have a wide spectrum (I loved my Spectrum 48K) of music I like. Classical to heavy rock or metal.

Jay.

P.s. I still can't find my avatar. Why has it gone?

Hi all.

I am back Ha..Ha! (he screams in a maniacal voice!)

Just wanted to say that, I think, Mr Roy Orbison was one awesome vocalist.
Don't think I ever heard a song of his that i didn't like.
'In dreams' is just one of my favorite songs that shows his vocal range well.

Jay.

P.s. Where has my avatar gone!

Hi auriond.

Just thought that I would let you know that all is well with the world again. :)

Following what you suggested with AVG I re-inserted my project and test projects into AGS and saved them.
They are all fine now so I have lost nothing.

However I did have to reinstall AGS as I tried to restore the files that AVG quarantined but they no longer worked for some reason.
Also I agree with you. I too have been using AVG for years and would also recommend it to everyone.

Anyway. Thank you for your help with this. Much appreciated.
Jay.

Hi Auriond.

Thank you for the reply and the workaround.

I do hope that whatever you were working on is O.K.

However I am rather miffed at AVG as I, myself, have now lost a fair bit of work.
As I said I do have my main project backed up on laptop but have still lost my other 'Test projects'.

I have now deleted AGS 2.72 and will install it again and do what you have suggested.
Then, hopefully, re-insert my project continuing from where I left off.

I have AGS 3 on this machine and must try to build a game with that, as soon as I have battled my nemesis. ;)

Many thanks.

What the hell is going on here.

I have been using AGS for a few years now and have also been using AVG as my virus software for longer.
I have been trying to finish a couple of games and so, was, still using AGS 2.72.
There have been no problems.

However tonight my comp did it's usual scan and reported 10 viruses and they were all to do with AGS.
All of the files were EXE files within the AGS creation software and all of the games I have been making.
As luck would have it I have a back up of my main creation on a laptop but all of the games and AGS are no longer working on my main comp.

All of the files were moved to the virus vault and given the name 'Back door, Trojan horse'. I tried to restore these files but alas no joy.
acwin.exe no longer exists within AGS and everything has come crashing down around my ears.

The actual message I get is through AVG is ' Trojan horse Back Door. Hupigon5.IZM'
And as I said before it is all to do with AGS!!

Please can anyone shed some light on what may have happened.

Jay.

Hi all.

Tis I RetroJay.
I am still using 2.72. (still trying to finish my first game).

I am having a small and annoying problem with character blocking.
I have a character in a room that I want the player to give a wide birth to.
Now within the room that has this character I have this code under 'Player enters room before fadein'
Code: ags

// script for Room: Player enters room (before fadein)
character[BOB].Solid = 1;
character[BOB].BlockingWidth = 50;
character[BOB].BlockingHeight = 15;

Now most of the time this works just fine. but every now and then the player character will ignore this and walk straight through [BOB].
Have I got the script for this in the right place or should it be somewhere else.

Many thanks.

Hi Anteater.

This may seem like a silly question but is your games color depth 32bit (true colour)?
Cos if its not then it needs to be to allow alpha channels.

I know this cos I had exactly the same prob. Mind you I still can't get alpha channels to work but this is cos
I am doing them all wrong with my paint program. ::)

#494
Hi Trent R.

Thankyou.
I thought that it maybe something to do with this thing called 'Alpha channels' but wasn't sure.
I haven't a clue how to use them though so I will do what you have suggested.

Thanks again.

Hi yall.

I wasn't sure where to post this.
This seemed like a good place as I am not sure if it is graphical or scripting.

First of all I wish to tell you that I am creating my graphics and such with 'Paintshop Pro 9' (which seems to do everything I require).
I have drawn a 'Magnifying Glass' as a mouse cursor and all is well.
However I would love to tint the lense of the Magnifying glass a light blue so as you could still see the background through it slightly when the cursor moves
over it.
I don't know if anyone here has ever seen the 'Nancy drew' games but this is the effect that I dessire.

Many thanks.

He he Damn!

I actually got it this time. ;D

It has to be said though that I was slightly dissapointed.
I loved those graphics, animations and music.
I hope you are really making a complete game cos I bet it would be great.

General Discussion / Re: About free e-books :)

Hi Peeps.

I just been onto the ebook site cos I am thinking of buying 'C++ For Dummies'.
However I can't download it, frankly I would prefer the physical manifestation of a book anyway (but thats just me!).
I wanted to ask if anyone thinks this a good book for someone like myself, who has a limited knowledge of scripting.

If not this one then are there any other books where I could expand my understanding.

Thanks.

Hi Yougsters.

I was born in 1973.
Oh. I still have fond memories of my very first comp the 'Sinclair Spectrum 48k' rubber buttoned wonder.
Then it was fantastic and I, still to this day, love it.
You had all your games on tape and loaded them for half an hour, or more, to be told that an error had occured.

However. Having said that most of the games were great and cleverly written, when they worked. There are so many of the Speccy game that could be
re-written for todays....Youngsters! One that pops to mind was a game called 'DRAGONTORC'. I never completed it and am playing it still with the help
of the 'ZX Spectrum emulator'. It's still great. :)

Also you could feel the love, time, sweat and blood that went into developing them. Something that I feel is missing with games of today.
If anyone is interested in the 'ZX Spectrum Emulator' and games then vissit www.worldofspectrum.org

Well thats my nostalgia trip over for tonight. ;)

Hi Goldie.

Have you called your song, within the "music" folder "music1" or "music(whatever mp3  number you are using)"?
Also within your "room settings" have you checked the box for "Play music on room load" and set the music number you wish to play?
