One word Morrowind...

I know it's not an adventure game, but hear me out:

Unlike Oblivion (the newest in the series), You can pick up and drop any item in the game (Oblivion gives no weight to 'quest' items and you can not drop them). I have played Morrowind for a good 100+ hours (I know your adventure game will not be this long lol) only to go on a guild quest and find that I have been to the area previously found a useless statue (not with hindsight) and dumped it randomly. I have no intention in starting again, and I have been to many of my 'drop points' in game and cannot find it. It is lost like a needle in a haystack.

Sorry for my random almost off point ramblings, however you brought up a painful memory for me lol..

So I would say no to dead end games.

((((p.s I use a lot of brackets))))

General Discussion / Re: R.I.P Red Dwarf
Thu 16/04/2009 14:34:46
It was 4 mins in and I was like: ok something's wrong... then it hit me, canned laughter (I always complain about a show with canned laughter, but now Red Dwarf seems more serious (and it's not meant to be)..

However I watched all 3 parts in one go, after missing part 2 +3 first time round on Dave. (Thank God that Dave always repeat) And I think it flows really well as a single episode. I really enjoyed it by the end.

Sure the acting wasn't what it use to be (It needed poorer acting from Craig Charles lol) And I was dissapointed that they didnt have a fast paced starwars text intro to 'explain' the transition from the last series. But I might try to edit one in and put in a laughter track, see what it does :)

But as I said over all a good job. Make more!!! lol

I still really can't wait for this game.... How much longer must we mere mortals prolong our anxiety?

Lol keep up the good work Resonance team.

I'm storing this game in my long and short term memory (Ah see what I did there...? Yeah you did lol)
;D

Thanks guys, lots of info coming in, all helpful, I'll keep at the character. Also does anyone else get reminded of Marty McFly every time they look at Andail's sprite? lol

Also could anyone give me a couple of hints towards animating a natural looking walk cycle?

Arrgh, I sat too long with this and totally forgot what the original looked like, so now it's basically a brand new sprite.

haha cool... im liking it.. i actually like the way you've done the rip in the pants...

Brilliant, absolutely amazing... Not only have I downloaded it. I am also going to order a cd and pay hard earned cash for this masterpiece   ;D

Wow.. nice... Im liking the paint overs...

Kastchey: It's meant to be a tie, and thanks for the info on hte legs / arms.. I just couldnt get it right...

SpacePirateCaine: Wow  :o liking what you have done with such a small colour pallet. I prefer your posture (and hair lol)/ colour police lol.. I knew it was a mess (I just threw them in as placeholders) I had already started cleaning it up (you may have noticed some skin tones where identical just 1 shade out lol)

I will take these into account and paint over mine (as im doing this for low resolution experience)
:)

Hello, this is my first attempt at a low resolution pixel character:

  x4:

I have always liked the less is more approach, and decided that I would give it a go.

As you can see he has been hurt, and is a bit worse for wear.

I am having trouble with his face, and the shading of him.

I think the arm on the right (his left) looks out of place.

Also is there a better way to do low pixel glasses?

The colours haven't really been thought of yet, they are mostly just place holders. But any suggestions on the colours would be great.

Thanks...

Edit -

I have edited the face and some of the shading.

  x4:

I think his head might be too big...

Also i have just thought. I am shading him with the light being on his left (And slightly behind him), but how do you shade a game character, making it generic enough so it looks right regardless of the room, yet dynamic enough that it looks good?

Update:

I have edited it some more while waiting for replies, I will leave the others up, so you can see my working out. (lol)

Here is a random animation (needs one more frame in the middle but I'm finding it hard to create it) :

"If your so great"?

BTW, Eggie: "our nations victory"?

Haha Modified consider myself told! lol  ;D

I couldn't resist... lol

Next: Where's Wally (Waldo if your American) desperately trying to hide from a t-rex

Just bookmarked... WOW I have not yet bought an AGS game, I always felt like it should be free. I came close with The Blackwell Legacy, but never ended up getting round to it.

But yours, I would buy. The effort gone in on all parts must be huge... A very well done!!!  ;D

Depending on the price of postage I would probably buy the CD version (if there is one lol) You should so include a signed poster (if not just for your own ego lol)  ;D

I look forward to it.

Will there be voice acting in the game or just txt?

P.S. Keep up the hard work...

The ironic thing is that the English are supposed to speak "proper English," as opposed the the wretched, bastardized "Amerikaanized Engrish." It's really quite interesting that the English do this. :=

If you're so great... spell colour...  ;)

Wow.. I'm English, and at first I thought; here comes another American, on his high horse, telling me that I speak and spell incorrectly.  (not sure if you are even American)  ;D

I read your post and I was impressed: Not only did you get your point across, explaining yourself very well, and with out offending me :) , you have a valid point.

I didn't quite get the Obama thing until you explained further...

I pronounce Obama like this : Oh-baa-mah

However if i put it in a sentence in which the word is followed be a vowel:

"She bought Obama a new car"

I pronounce it like this : Oh-baa-mer-a   ...    'Obama a' becomes one word with an 'r' inserted...

I have never heard of this before, and never noticed it... Im gonna be cringing every time it happens now lol   :P

I find this very fascinating...

Also I come from the north west of England (near Manchester), and we tend to leave out the word 'the' in some sentences, depending on it's structure:

Example: "She live's up towards the shops."    Would turn into    "She live's up towards 'shops."

The gap is usually filled with a very quick, low tone, intake of breath: "She live's up towards <HUP> 'shops."

Dialect is a strange thing...

Well.. as I have tried many times to get a game out, the closest I came was a game about 40% done.. (With no sound)

The planning stage consists of me coming up with a basic idea, then fleshing it out with my friend (Who I guess you could call my co-writer)...

We usually start off with the story, then get names etc (all written down in a note pad) I then start sketching a character and a couple of ideas for puzzles. Then I get to making the bg's (but end up trying to perfect the style of art I want, or a characters animation, or a bg layout. And loose interest as no real progression seems to be made.)

My current project (Which Im not discussing yet lol) was thought up by my friend and we are curently making that happen. I wanted to try a couple of things that I thought would be cool and inivitive. Went to try them out in AGS (Re-downloaded it as I has deleated it months ago) Then found out Woah!! Its all changed lol.. soo now the planning has stopped so I can get use to the new AGS lol  :)

Erm... I see where your coming from, but some are hard to remember, and that's the whole point. If you push two words together it has to role off the tongue and look good on paper. For example Actventure might work if you divided them somehow... eg ACTventure... But I think it looks to messy...

Just try finding a phrase that suits your style, like said before. Or maybe something personal that can be translated, like Jaker might work, (I dont know the significance to you) but seems like a cool word that could be individual, yet roles off the tongue...
#59
Erm.. The style seems great.. I like it... Both screens are consistent, you can tell they are from the same game... other than that... I cant offer any more crit. I think your friend should carry on making more... :)

Yeah I managed to get it all working.. sound and all... Thanks for all the help.  :=
