First of all who the hell do "the muslims" think they are that they can tell the Danes what they can and can't do in their own damm country??   It's not the Danes fault that muslims have a long history of being humorless dick heads nor is it their responsibility to worry about it.   The whole purpose of political cartoons and humor of this type is to illustrate the absurd with absuridty.    The cartoons effectively served that purpose by exposing many tens of thousands of muslims as being the insecure, violent, intolerant, bigoted assholes they are.

Second of all  I am deeply offended and angry with people who have this sentiment about freedom.   The US was founded on Judeo-Christian values as espoused in our Declaration of Independance and our Constitution.   Many people through out our history, including many of my family, have fought and/or died for these values and to secure the freedom we in the US and EU enjoy today.

You see in our tradition FREEDOM IS GOD GIVEN AND IS NOT TO BE TAKEN FROM US BY ANY OTHER MAN OR NATION.   Notice the wording of the first amendment of our constitution above.  It begins by saying that "Congress shall make no law ....".  That means that the freedom of speech cannot be taken away from anyone by any man made law.  It was given to us by GOD and only GOD can take it away, got it?   Can't you see that what is being demanded of the west is impossible?

Why can't muslims respect my God and my beliefs in the way they would like me to respect theirs?    I am just as insulted, offended, and angry as they are!  Don't I have a right to be?  Perhaps I don't have the same rights because I am not muslim?   

At this point I think the only sensible thing for people in the west to do is make more cartoons that make fun of the behavior of the many muslims that rightly deserve it.

Just my two cents worth...

I have a couple of ideas regarding system defined variables.  The first one I would find immediately useful.  The second one is more of a request for discussion than for an immediate feature. 

  • game.name - Would it be possible to add a game.name or game.filename variable so that one could find the file name of the game that is running from within the game.  If implemented, the current game's name wouldn't need to be specified by the user.   A String containing the file name without the extension would work just dandy.

  • gs_globals -  The documentation says that these are obsolete and so nobody should use them in a new design.    Presummably they are still in the engine for compatibility reasons and because CJ hasn't gotten around to removing them yet.    Anyway what would everyone think about making gs_globals  "persistent"  so that the data contained in the gs_global array would survive RestoreSaveSlot() and RunAGSGame() operaqtions?  I suppose it could be an option if compatibility was an issue.

    Currently it is nearly nearly impossible to set a flag or state that will be preserved after a restore operation is complete.   Even writing the data to a file is a bit tricky because you still need to know when to read the file.   

    Currently there is an option to retain the values of global ints through RunAGSGame().  The problem is that global ints are in fairly common usage and a module that required them to be used a certain way would be an intolerable annoyance to many wouold be users of the module.   Since the use of gs_globals  ought to be much less common  such a module requirement should be proportionatly less annoying. 

    Anyhow, feel free to flame away!   ;)

I'm not sure I correctly understand what you're asking but here is what I know about the subject:

Global functions must be defined in the Global Script file.  They can then be imported into all of the room script file by placing the appropiate import statement in the Script Header file.  Alternatively the import statement can be placed in each Room Script file where it is used.  AFIK you can't define a function in one Room Script file and then import it into another Room Script or Global Script file.

Althouh cross compilation is a bit of an issue it is not a show stopper.   It's not what I had in mind when I refered to needing the assistance of the runtime maintainers.   I was thinking along the lines of actually linking plugin or other glue code to the runtime to enable the plugin to work.

Sounds like a resonable criteria for accepting or rejecting content to me.   Would you publish something on your website or in your game that you didn't think was funny/entertaining or appropiate?   Who else but you should decide what content you get to publish?   

I can see the point though.  Clearly the Muslim world is light years ahead of us poor infidels here in the west in terms of morality and fairness; they would have published them in a heartbeat.

Is it possible now to write a cross platform plugin (TCP/IP client for example) and then compile for each platform?  Or must they be statically linked into the Linux and MAC runtimes thus making it necessary for the maintainers of those platforms to do the link/compile operations?

Upload your game somewhere and I'll take a look at it.   I PM'ed you the FTP info for my site if you wish to upload there.   

Let me know what version of AGS you are currently using and the URL where I can get the game and I'll have a look.

It's a diffcult module to understand because of the way Save/Restore game functions work and from where they can and can't be executed.    What happens is that the actual operations are not performed where the instruction appears in the code but after after that particular script is completed.   So instructions that appear after the Save/Restore instructions in the script are actually executed before the Save/Restore operations are performed.   

In addition,  the Restore operation overwrites all the variables so if you want to set a flag or other variables to remember what the module is doing you have to play some tricks, like saving/restoring some data in a text file and taking advantage of the RunAGSGame() data parameter.

So don't feel too bad about not understanding it fully.   For the same reasons I am not yet happy with the scripting of this module and aI am currently trying to make it a little les convoluted.

Have you imported the module into both games?  Have you tried upgrading to AGS 2.71 or V2.72?  I have seen this behavior recently while I was changing the module.  I didn't try to find out exactly what was happening because I knew I had things out of sync.  The problem eventually went away.  If importing the module into both games doesn't fix the problem let me know and I'll upload the current DemoQuestand DQCycle games for you.

I just came across something called Korelib which claims to be "A cross-platform library for plugin-based applications".  Is this something that could be used to allow plugins to be portable?

I know that Darwain awards are usually given posthumously but I don't think there is any doubt that this guy will ever live long enough to procreate.  For this reason I would like to nominate him to recieve a Darwin Award even though he has not yet departed this world.

Here is a snap shot of the MoiniGame module that you can probably use for your purposes Martijm.  I will post newer versions as they become available.  Let me know if you have any p[roblems with this.

Why not just ask for a couple of 16:9 resolutions be added to the game setup.  We already have scrolling rooms, so on a wider screen you would get to see the whole background or at least a larger part of it's width.   I think the technical and practical aspects of adding more and/or higher screen resolutions have been discussed here many times before so I won't go on, except to say that I have always been in favor of higher resolutions.   

I don't think schemes involving stretchig, clipping, etc would be of much use for games that were never designed to be played on a wide screen or that don't have scrolling rooms.

When I was in Jr. High some kid in the class one year back poured a bunch a gasoline on a piece of card board and lit it.  He ended up buring off his eye brows and comming to school looking funnier than hell and earned the nick name Ding-a-Ling which for all of you forigners pretty much means "retarded bastard".

When I was much older I worked on truck scales for awhile.  There was a truck stop in Pensylvania where our company had a coin operated scale which we serviced from time to time.  Across the road there was a little was a little truck mechanics shop with which we had some dealings.  It was owned by an individual who did most of the work.   On one aocassion when a colleague and my self were assigned to go there to work on our scale we noticed that the shop was burned down to the ground.  We inquired about it and were told that the owner was asked to repair a stainless steel gassoline tanker.   Apparently he had asked the drive to empty the tank before he did any welding.   Ufortunately the tank was full of gasoline and air mixture.  Shortly after the wekding began the tank exploded and engulfed the little shop in flames.  The owner who was doing the welding sustained 3rd degree burns over 90% of his body but managed to survive for about a week before he died from his injuries.

You can keep playing with your super soaker and gasoline if you want but if you manage to burn yourself up I hope they put the word "Dumbuass" on your epitaph.   :=
