I haven't read the law myself but the commentary in the link below has cited a couple relevant sections that appear to specifically exempt intgeractive computerservices or software such as message boards and online interactive games.

http://news.com.com/5208-1028-0.html?forumID=1hreadID=12943&messageID=101619&start=132

It appears that the law was intended for one on one communications such as phone calls, instant messaging, and e-mail.  I don't have a problem outlawing the anomuity of the originator in such cases.   If this would have been in affect since the beginning of the internet spam would have never ever become the huge problem it is.

Bravo Squinky!

It's my understanding that Willams was the co-author, which means that someone else probably wrote the book and put Williams' name on it for publicity or as a mans of getting published.    Also Williams was the founder of the "Crips" a violent youth gang that continue to comitt murders and other violent crimes.   While in prison Willams maintained relationships with the organization he founded and has never renounced or helped authorities to break-up that organization.   Also while in prison and co-authoring the children's books he planned on killing a number of people to escape.  During this same time in prison, when he was supposedly reformed,  he commited numerous violent crimes including sexual assult of fellow prisioners and physical attacks on guards and prisioners alike.  I say GOOD RIDANCE to Mr. Williams.

P.S. Be nice to Suinky or else he'll F'ya, and as everyone down at the Pirate Guild knows, he has a steel pirate hook on the end of his schlong.   :=

It seems to me that something like Lulu.com wouold be an obvious choice.   If I understand correctly there are no minimum quanities or setup costs.  They charge about $5 for CD and about $7 for DVD.  One only need to create the collection, cover art, and upload the files.  Set the price at at the per dick cost and viola!  No profit, no harm, no foul.

Chriz,

Thanks for your offer of help on Demo Quest.   Demo Quest is pretty much a community project so any contributions you can make will be graciously accepted.

Have a look at the Games in Prduction thread.  Review the documentation there and the game itself and then PM me when you have some familiarity with the project.

I am a Rugby player (second row mostly).   I also played American football in high school but had more fun playing Rugby.  So what position do you all play, back or scrum?

As for Socer we always said that "Socer is a gentleman's game played by  holigans and Rugby is a holigan's game played by gentlemen...".    ;)

As far as I'm concerned Fluke has cleaned up his act.  He has stopped trying to be cool by using ebonics and cryptic language substitutions.    Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  It's amusing to me, being the old fart I am, to see a bunch of 19 year olds point out how imature some 13 year old is.   How mature do you think your current disscussions will appear to yourselves 30 years from now?   ;)

I find the personal attacks, in which so many seem to enjoy participating, far more offensive and counter productive than any silly ass thread.   So why don't we just all take a deep breath and chill.

I use "MP3 Book Helper".  It's name is a bit uncool but it is a very productive tool.

Hey Squinky

This shit happened to me a couple of years ago but not with an internet survey.  They didn't even give a reason or justification.   After mucho complaining to the phone company it finally go taken off my bill.  Here are a couple of ideas for you to stew on, because I wouldn't be allowed to give up yet (Hmmmm, maybe my wife may have a future in law enforecement...).

1.  Small Claims Court is your friend.   First of all lawyers aren't allowed in.  Second of all the person you name in the suit has to show up, if not you win.  So you could sue the phone company for not providing the voicemail you have paid for or the other company for fraud (I think a number of conditions must be met for an electronic signature to be vailid, one of wich I suppose would be a clear indication that you are signing a legal document).  So what you would do is find out in which state the company is located, lookup their listing with the secretary of state of that state.  This listing will tell you where they can be served and who the officers are that you can name in the suit.  You can find most of these listings on teinternet.  Just Google for "state name" and "secretary of state".  If they don;t have a web searchable database you will have to call them to get the listing and will cost $5-$20.  Judges like helping the little guy when they are right.

2.  Can you get high speed wireless or cable internet?  If so consider changing over.   Also consider switching to Vonage or some other VOIP company.  If it works good enough call the phone co to come and take their frickin wirs off your house.   I haven't done this yet my self but I have a plan in the works for early next year.

3.  If you want to try the phone route once more you may have better luck talkling to the phone companies legal department.  Ask them the address where they can take legal service and the name of one of the principals.  Tell them you are going to small  claims court to settle an issue regarding charges on your bill for a service that was not authorized by you and that was not provided by them.   Ask if there is a way to resolve this without going to court.  If they can't give you satisfaction  := then thank them and politely hangup and then take a trip to the courthouse and file.

On another note, there's a  program (Exact Audio Copy) I seen recommended from a link from one of the new-articles I've read on this, that will allow you to easily grab music from CD and make them into file on your computer for use, and will also grab music from Sony's XCP protected CDs as well if you've "...turned off autorun and avoided infection by XCP".
So the thing to do is go out and buy all the XCP CDs you can find, rip them with this thing and then go back to the record store and demand your money back.  Tell tell them the ELUA terms are not acceptable.  If they don't give the mone back go to small claims court where you are sure to prevail, as the terms of the ageement aren;t divulged until you break the shrink wrap and pop the thing into your computer.  The interesting thing about small claims court is that lawyers aren't allowed in.  So as I understand it, if one were to  sue Sony in small claims court, what one would do in fact is to name one of the corporate officers or board members of the corporation in the suit.  They would have to travel to your city and spend the day in the court room just like the rest of us scumbags.  You could ask for a judgement for the amount you paid for the CD ($18.00) plus the court filling fee ($35.00) and whatever it cost you to have the papers served on the defendant ($50.00 ).

In all likelyhood you would prevail on the basis that the terms of the ELUA agreement were not revealed until the CD was inserted into a computer and that upon reading those terms you did not agree to them and that you wish to return the merchandise for a full refund.   The really cool thing is that even if you loose, you are out  less than a 100 spot but that important SOB had to spend at least one day with a lawyer and another day traveling, and another day in court to explain himself in front of a judge.   It would only take a few hundred such lawsuits to keep'em busy for a long time.    :=

Update:
It seems Sony has yet another DRM scheme nearly as bad as the last one.  The article is  here:

Shouldn't the bottom of the cabinet be lower than the bottom of the wall?

Thanks for listening.  I checked out the link you provided but it is far too complicated for what I want.  Your little app loads quickly and is great.  Your new screen shots, if I understand them correctly, are just what I was thinking.  Not sure what the calendar is all about though?

Here is the latest I've heard about this.  Take a look at what Sony say you are allowed to do with their lousy CDs.

Candle this is a really great  idea!   I wonder if you would consider expanding the functionality to support snippet categories.  In this case each category would be a separate txt file.  The user could select a category from a file list.   There would be a default category called "work", "default", or something similarly appropiate.  This should alleviate any concerns about file size and make it easy for people to share snippet collections.   It would also be nice to be able to specify a path where the text files are to be saved.

  • Settings - Use a separate ini file to store settings such as the GuiSize and Paths.

  • Paths - Allow user to specify a path where txt files are stored

  • Categories - Support multiple categories where each category is a seperate txt file.

It would also be very useful if a category could also be  a collection of txt files rather than a single txt file.  The category.txt file would contain a directory specification and all the txt files in that directory would appear in the category.  This would be very useful for people who have templates that they include all the time.

Thanks for listening and for the great app.  It is muchly appreciated.
