I could recommend Python.  I had the pleasure of meeting with Guido van Rossum, the inventor of Python, a couple of years ago.  He characterizes Python as "C minus junk".    It's easy to learn, it's object oriented, and there are many library modules available for it, including several that read/write XML files to and from internal objects.    You can also "compile" it and deliver an exe application.  Oh, and by the way it is also cros paltform compatible.

General Discussion / Re: Help name my kitten!

When naming I tend to go exotic. Names I would have for pets are ancient civilitazation's gods names or a mutation thereof, like Osiris or Illyria...maybe Artemis.
Well since she's a girl kitty Isis pops in to my mind.

How about calling her Davidson and then your cats would be Marley & Davidson  :=.  Yeah ok, not too funny I know.    So here are some more serious suggestions:

  • Lenie - After that loveable character in "Of Mice and Men" who loved playing with mouses.

  • Jorgie - After Lenny's freind (see above).

  • Corazona de Noche - Heart of the night

  • Amorcita - Love...

  • Ratona, Ratoncita - Kind of cruel to call her mouse

  • Ojo - Big, beaytiful eyes? (pronounced o-ho)

  • Rosita - A variation of my mom's name

  • Tomacita - I grew up with a black cat named Tom.  He was by best friend ever and I miss him very much.

  • Bandida - For stealing her way into your heart and home.

That's all I can think of now.

You don't believe everything you read on the internet do You?  ;)

I don't klnow if this is true or not but I heard that at one time or another it was necessary to get permission from the reigning monrarch to engage in sexual activity and hence the acronym F.U.C.K came into common usage.   It is my understanding that in Roman times it was common for prostitutes to meet with their clients under a bridge or fonice.  And so in modermn times we have ...

Give me a break Eric.  As SSH says I'm only 11 years old, and short too.  It's one hell of a burden for a short 11 year old to have a 16 inch tool.  I'm sure someday I'll figure out what to do with it.  Until then I'll just have to struggle along and get by somehow.

And by the way, it's a bit presumptous of you to assume that I am drunk just becaus I said that I had been drinking, isn't it?  Just because I can't draw dosen't mean that I am a light weight.   ;) .

Eric,
LoL and mucho respect.  Wish we all (everyone) could go out for a beer every once in a while and blow off some steam.  I enjoy mixing it up with everyone and hope my humor is appreciated in the manner it is meant.   I know in my heart that if you didn't like me you wouldn't pay me any attention man!  So  I love you too man!  :-*

Cheers
Rick

Fuke you all (mis-spelling intended).  I been drinking and I'm fed up with 17 year olds telling 13 year olds  how they are imature teenagers.  Just fuck'in gorow up all of you; phleeeease!   Fluke came here trying to be cool by talking like a gheto nigger and we told him that we weren't impressed.   He got the message and stopped trying so hard to be accepted.  Now he makes a sincere post from the heart and a bunch of imature folks jump on him for being imature!  Why are you so #$%@ing  intolerant?... or perhaps it's insecurity rather than imtolerance?

For Fuke's sake, I posted about Sony fukeing up every computer in the whole world and fewerer people saw fit to read or respond to that than to  this post.    What that that say  about all of you shits that ignored my post and say fit to spenf your time here.  By your own logic you should certaintly be banned from the forums before FlukeBlake.    In this spirit I would like to propose new rules  for all AGS forums as follows:

  • Responimng to a a post in an unintersting, humorless, or otherwise useless manner, in the view of the moderators is grounds for being banned from the forums.

  • Responding to a thread that is uninteresting, humorless, or useless, in the opinion of the resaponder is grounds for being banned from the forums.

Thank you for your indulgence.  Please have another beer on me.   :=

Hehe, Yeah and I'm short too!  Can you dig it man... :D

I don't kow why you are picking on Fluke.   He has peviously taken a lot of well deserved critisism and as shown a lot of character by listening and changing his ways.   You are not moderators so please don't pretend like you are.

If you think a thread is uninteresting or unfunny then just ignore it and let the rest up to the moderators.   In all honesty this thread is more interesting, IMHO, than many others I have seen in Gen and Chat recently.  When Fluke said...

it made me smile.

Farlander makes the point that this is in fact a legitimate post when he says ....

Fluke's post become interesting when the members develope it. He posts "Hey, I am taller, cool!" and the members start a good discussion about puberty and how tall/short we were at high school, and how did affected us. That's why I love the forums. ...
Unless I'm mising something, isn't the whole point of having a forum is to stimulate the participants thoughts.  So if a post is thought provoking then what's wrong with it?

This post reveals something about Fluke that is very important to him and perhaps something he was hoping to hear how other people may have dealt with this isssue.  Why is this different than so many other similar threads people have stareted about their own personal issues?    At least Fluke doesn't appear to be asking for sympathy since has revealed this after he has seen the light at the end of the tunnel and did't say "Woe is me!  What shall I ever do?  Won't someone feel sorry for me...".

Sorry about the rant but it really bothers me to hear people whining about rules.   :=

Well, I think I'll add my two cents.  There are two posibilities;  either the father of the child shares responsibility for it with the mother or he doesn't.   The goverment has seen fit to involve themselves in this via child support and other laws to make the father share responsibility for any kids he co-produces.  So why wouldn't the father have a 50% say in it?   I've read all of the reasons above about abusive partners etc but there are laws to handle those things.

If you believe that the mother has the right to make all the decisions then under the law she should bear full responsibility and not expect anything from the father.  If you think the law should obligagte the father to provide financial support then he should have a say.   I don't think you can have it both ways.

Well to dive the point home what if everyone and their friends dropped into a record store and shopped around for a Sony CD and at the checkout counter ask the clerk if the CD will screw up your computer.  When they say "No!" point out the copy protection logo and the fine print and thell them that you don't want to buy that kind of crap and leave.   Repeat the process as often as you like.  See how many of your friends you can talk into playing this kind of prank.   While you are shopping chat up other shoppers about CD's screwing their computers and asking them if they know which ones.   If nothing else it's good for a laugh.  Who knows if enough people do it they may get the point.

General Discussion / Screwed by Sony Music CDs

Be careful what music you CD's you play on your computer or this can happen to you!!!

Sony, Rootkits and Digital Rights Management Gone Too Far

Update:
Here is a snippet from a Reuters article that indentifies the CD in question.

... The matter drew increased attention in technology circles October 31, when software developer/computer security expert Mark Russinovich began blogging the details of problems he experienced after using his computer to play the copy-protected CD of "Get Right With the Man" by Van Zant, a Southern rock act signed to Columbia Records.

I think you want to crop the bottom of your character sprites.  The Z property allows flying charatcers such as birds to be scaled properly as the fly into the background.

Such as a muslim kid having to write letters to santa or draw pictures of the easter bunny because their third grade teacher made everyone in the class do it.
First of all the same people think nothing of forcing Christian children to make their own prayer rungs and practice using them in the name of cultural diversity.

Secondly neither Santa Claus and nor the Easter Bunny can be seriously considered religious icons.  Admitedly the origin of the Santa Claus myth may have some religious roots but as practiced in modern times it's more closely associated with comercialism rather than any religious beliefs.  Further, though I am not an expert, I am not aware of any religion that formally recognizes Santa Claus.  Perhaps some of our nothern EU friend can shed some light on this aspect.

Thirdly why should muslims be so intolerant of a host culture?

It's the same thing with the pledge of allegiance.  In America, all the kids used to have to start the day by saying the pledge which includes the words "one nation, under God."  A lot of schools don't say it because they don't want this "God" (whichever one it is) being forced upon their kids.  I think the real issue should be about the enforcement of the separation of church and state, but a lot of people are offended by this for religious reasons.
First of all the term "separation of church and state"  does not appear in the US Constitution, the Declaration of Independance, or the US Code.   It appeared in correspondance between Jefferson and Adams (I believe, it was Adams).    The only place where religion is mentioned is in the first amendment where it says something to the effect that ... Congress shall make no laws extablishing a religion or preventing the free exercise thereof....

Secondly like it or not the concept of "god" was an essential element justifying separation from England and the founding of the US.  It is the basis of the freedoms and rights enjoyed by the citizens of the US.   In many other countries (perhaps most all?) freedoms and civil rights are privleages granted by a king or the state and so can be revoked by said king or state whenever it's convenient to do so.   In the US, however, such freedoms are granted to the people by a higher authourity, god, and therefore the state does not have the authority to revoke these freedoms.   So this is the foundation of the US goverment and the body of law that has evolved over the last 230 some years.

The example which you site, the pledge of allegience, is simply a statment of loyalty to the country and an acknowledgement of the founding principles.   I believe this was also the conclusion of the 4th Circuit Court in a recent case.   The phrase "one nation under god" refers to an authority higher than the state from which our freedoms flow and that the state does not have the authority to mess with them.   In this sense it does not matter how one defines god or if one defines god at all.   The point is that there are things which the state does not the have authority to do with the freedom of the people.  I think that even the most devout athiest would find merit in the idea of inalienable freedoms and rights.

Again, I just really think everyone should keep their religion quietly out of everyone else's lives.
Yeah, especially muslims eh!

Best year ever, my first son was about 4 years old. My mom had bought him this Devil mask, and he loved. So there I am talking to somebody at church when he pipes up and says "I'm the Devil!"
He's a chip off the ol bloc, eh!  ;D

I did a 6 month project in India.  While I was there a religious holiday came up.  Everyone showed up at work with food coloring (different colors, red, bule, yellow, etc) poured all over thier face and hair.   They looked like nutty fans at football game.   They explained the religious meaning but it didn't make much sense to me so I can't remember what it was.

Ok, so here's the point:  I didn't believe in what they did nor was I asked to.  The meaning of what they were doing was shared with me and I graciously respected the holiday although I did not directly particpate.  I wan't offended by what they were doing and why should I be offended?

So why wouldn't it work the other way round.  Why would a Hindu person be offended by people celebrating Christian holidays in the US or Europe which are traditionally Christian countries?  I mean if you don't believe in that religion why the hell would you give a shit?

First of all in Mexico they put out candles and stuff in the cemetaries and celebrate it as a solem occasion.  I believe this is also the case in some other parts of Central and South America.  So there it is more or less a religious holiday and not a kids party thing as it is in the US.

Second of all so what if it is a religious holiday?  Why are people so intolerant?  I would be willing to bet that they same people doing this stuff are huge proponts of "Diversity".   I always ask them "Diversity of what?", because they are so intolerant of peoiple, ideas, and factual information, that does not agree with their preconvieved notions.   Am I worng?
