Games like The Legend of Leitor's Edge, Revenants, The Cloak, The Case etc. were highly anticipated, but eventually the development just halted. Which is a shame, really.

Well, the production of Leitor's Edge has been down for quite a while now, but that Snake and I are still on it, no doubt about that. Well, as soon as he can send me that friggin' update, that is... Ahem. ;)
So it's not dead yet, at least. :)

Heh, well, listening to Einstürzende Neubauten is listening to metal in the quite literal sense. ;) Hehe...

Using metal plates,Ã,  and pneumatic drills as percussive instruments is as much "metal" as one can get, methinks. ;)

I think they're fun,(the video to Keine Lust was hilarious) but they're not a band I'd buy albums with. When I want vocals in german, I listen to Einstürzende Neubauten instead. ;)
Our bassplayer is a huge Rammstein fan, though. :)

Oh dear, oh dear... Songs of 2005... It's really too many to mention, but aw, crap, I'll give it a try.

- Akira Soundtrack - Kaneda
Always reminds me of those dark autumn nights, sitting on a bus/train looking out at the lights flashing by, much like they do in Akira when the piece is played....

- Bob Hund - F.ö stal hon mitt hjärta
This whole song represents all of my lovelife in 2005, basically... Heh. The title means something like "Btw, she stole my heart", and I suppose that says it all.

- Bohren & Der Club of Gore - Destroying Angels
- Bohren & Der Club of Gore - Black City Skyline
Also part of the "late-at-night-travel songs - Incredible hautning and moody, these doomy jazz-germans have been my saviours since I first heard them. Incredible. If you like, slow, instrumental and dark jazz, check them out.

- Depeche Mode - Shake the Disease
Myes, a bit of a love-related song here as well, if you've heard the lyrics you probably get the picture.

- Dungen - Panda
Oooh, this is bitterness to me. Total bitterness.

- Einstürzende Neubauten - Seele Brennt
Neubauten are brilliant in general, but something about "Seele Brennt" just captured a lot of my emotions at the time I first heard it. To me it was personal chaos and confusion.

- Fantômas - Page 29
Just a plain old "feel-gooder". Fantômas (and Mike Patton in general) is great, but the "Paroom-poom-paa" in Page 29 will always be something to cheer me up. :)

- Godspeed you black emperor! - The Dead Flag Blues
This song, andt he whole album that it's on, "F# A# (Infinity Symbol)" is just so cinematic and full of soundscapes, that I can't imagine not listening to it anymore. Brilliant album, and this song is perhaps the best late-night listening one can have if you're home all alone and feeling a bit down. It just takes you away. It sure did to me.

- Mr Bungle - Stubb (A Dubb)
Another Patton-related one - And yes, another "feel-good"-track. Represents, well, the first time I heard Mr Bungle. :) But definately not the last.

- Pontus & Amerikanerna - Godmorgon Columbus
Early 90's nostalgia. To the max. Found the 7" single in a local second hand shop, and was forced to buy it just for the fact that I hadn't heard this song since back in 1991 when it came out, and I was just a couple of years old... It was like childhood all over again when I heard it.

- U2 - New Years Day
Not too hard to imagine what this represents, is it? Yes, it represents, (surprise!) New Years Day and just those cold winter mornings in general, really. Going out and feeling your breath turn to ice inside your throat and thinking about that there's a whole new year ahead of you.

Yikes, feels like it was ages since I participated here now.
A really crappy entry with bad perspective and wierd-ass shading, but it's also my first background for a very, very long time...
Just felt the need to whip something up. :)

Great entries so far, though! :)

Well, as a fellow Terranigma lover, I can wholeheartedly agree about the ending, it was really movingÃ,  the first time I played it. Just brilliant. You can't really compare that game to any other...
The only other game to do something similiar though, would be Grim Fandango, probably...

Looks really great, Squinky, and I don't just say that because I'm a sucker for stuff with lots of details... :)
I may be nit-picking, though, but aren't the legs/knees a bit oddly angled? It looks they're a bit too stiff, like he's about to fall flat, in a way... Maybe a more broad stance would look better?

And perhaps a sort of polar/atomic winter-bakground would work for it? Siberia-ish? Like an abandoned polar station? :)Ã,

Weell, I don't know if I'm ashamed as such, seeing as I did buy them myself of my own free will this very year, but I actually bought both "Vienna" by Ultravox and "Dare!" by The Human League on vinyl. Mhm, yeah, you read it - 80's synth-pop of the most cheesy kind.

Mm, Kyuss indeed. Glad to see there's people here who appreciate them. Brilliant band. Still the unchallenged masters of the stoner/desert-rock. :)

And just for the sake of namedropping good bands/artists springing to my mind at the moment:
Bohren & Der Club of Gore, Mr Bungle, Fantômas, Tomahawk, The Mars Volta, Bauhaus, Neurosis, Skörda, Katatonia, Dead Kennedys, The Residents, Einstürzende Neubauten, GYBE!, Placebo among many others...

Mm, yes, as several has mentioned already, Grim Fandango, (Big band, bebop and bones... Brilliant.) Gabriel Knight 1/2/3 & CoMI are truly great, great soundtracks, although I must say that my personal LEC-favourite is one that hasn't been mentioned yet:

Outlaws - I mean, come on, what's not to love about a spaghetti-western-soundtrack?
Twangy guitars, trumpets and whistlings... Mmmm... I love it.
Gotta get my hands on that game. Gah. Best darn' rootin'-tootin' FPS there ever was.

And oh, yeah, Discworld Noir as well. :) The main theme and the Anhk-Morpork-map-theme...
Gives me goosebumps every time. More moody jazz in adventure games, I say.

SexyLosers, anyone?
A female friend of mine worships this one,Ã,  and made me read it, and I have to admit it's really, really funny when it's at it's best, but the quality of the jokes vary greatly.
And yeah, it's definately not for the easily offended people, though. Lot's of sex-related jokes, although not always the kind you'd expect... Just don't say I didn't warn you, that's all. :) Read at your own risk...

Helm, I think that is what you get when you put Jonathan Davies in a meatgrinder.
Either that, or people grinding with corn as a rhythm-instrument.
Come to think of it, the sound of popcorn popping could make for a great progressive drumbeat.
I wonder if the Dillinger Escape Plan and Atheist are up for the challenge?

Heh, heh... exactly, it was funny. Hmm... speaking of metal we're speaking of subculture. So what about it? Are you still playing with this funny things?Ã, Heh, heh... Know what I mean? Sometimes I still wear my beloved leather, combat trousers and heavy boots, but it's not the same feeling as in the past. Actually I don't deplore my hairs, I'm glad I've cut them -- shaved head is not so bad.

And metal (subculture and partially music) just sucks. :)

Hehe, well, I've never been one for the whole "leather-and-studs"-image-thing, since I've always found it, well, very silly, to be honest.Ã,
But if you refer to long hair, well, yes, since I enjoy my long hair. And that's about it. :) I listen just as much to old 60's psychedelic music for me to be called a hippie instead of a metalhead, to tell you the truth... :)

Yeah, yeah, sure thing. If you would have asked me two year ago, I wouldn't have hesitated to say it's my favourite genre and that everything else is shit, but I've widened my musical span since then quite a bit... Now I just listen to anything, as long as it's good. :)

I'm always fond of really slow and heavy doom metal and stoner, though, and old-school thrash/death is never wrong either.
Not too keen on power metal, with the exception of Blind Guardian, who at least on their early records were really, really good, and you got more grunting that fasletto, which is a nice change from the other bands in the genre... Hehe.
I feel a bit similar towards most Black Metal bands as well - There are some exceptions, but most bands just drown in their own "über-necro-grim-kvlt-tr00"-image instead of doing good music, which is a pity...

Still, nowadays I can go from Entombed, Bloodbath and Meshuggah to Godspeed you black Emperor!, Depeche Mode, Ultravox and Bohren & Der Club of Gore(Incredible instrumental horror/doom-jazz - A must-listen, really!) in a matter of minutes, so as I said, I listen to anything that is good... :)

And my all-time favourite band is still Black Sabbath. :)

Ok, wild guess: Charlton Heston? Sort of reminded me of him...

The Rumpus Room / Re: Best ROCK song ever!
Wed 29/06/2005 11:13:49
Ahem.
MC5 - "Kick out the Jams", obviously.

But I'd rather not choose at all, really... There are too many good rock songs out there in as Evil pointed out, too many different styles subgenres.

#159
Helm, I appreciate the honest critique, so I'll try to do a short comment meself.

First of all, none of the songs on our demo are mixed in the least yet, so, yeah, you're completely right about that one. Nothing is the way it's supposed to be, level-wise. We will mix the demo and hopefully get a proper sound out of both guitars, drums, bass and vocals sometime in august. :)

Heh, and about the style-mixing-thingie...
...Well, that's kinda our point, to mix as much as we can when it comes to influences and styles, and get a diverse sound, and just do whatever we feel like. We realize that it will upset a lot of people, and that not everybody aprreciates the sound, but we do what we want to do, and we're happy with that. :)
But I can fully understand if it comes off as sounding too strained, though. That's the backside of mixing styles, I guess...

So, I therefore guess you might not appreciate our full demo which features bothÃ, death-powerpop, Sepultura-gothic-funk, pseudo-tr00-black metal and something as rare as a more plain death metal-song and even a power metal-ish one? ;D

Oh well, thanks for the critisism, anyways, even though it might not affect the way we do music that much in future. :)

(- And no, I'm not really into grind that much myself, but Nasum is one of the few bands in the genre I really, really like. Napalm Death have good lyrics, and the fun value when listening to "Scum" is great, but that's about it.
And I almost suspected that if was more influenced by death metal, in a way... :)Ã, ) Ã,

Glad to hear you like it, Brat. :) It's one of our favorites among our own songs as well. :)

Hehe, Helm - Great entry... How can you go wrong with a bit of death/grind? :D
If there had been alternating high-pitched screaming/deep bass-growls, it would have made a great Nasum-song, methinks. (Too bad about Miezkos death, though. They were one of the better grindcore outfits out there, in my opinion.)
